Does the Taylor signing matter if the O-line sucks? I really like Matt Forte much better as a cheap 3rd down back, running outside and catching passes. A very poor man's Marshall Faulk. Goodbye, Garrett Wolfe and Adrian Peterson.

I think Peterson stays, Wolfe and Jones go. Just a guess and I wouldn't bet my life on it.

Agreed. Wolfe is pretty good on special teams. They would probably keep him around just for that.

They all suck - it may just be that the cheapest one stays, even if the difference is minimal.

It's a done deal, says The SCORE's Zach Zaidman between the Bears and DT Julius Peppers.

Wait, what? Why hasn't this been reported anywhere then?

How do you make a case for Peterson over Wolfe? Wolfe is younger, faster, cheaper, has been just as good on special teams (if not better) and he is a different kind of back than the other two. Lovie has said that there will always be a place for Peterson on his roster but he is going into year 9, I believe.

SHARK - please note that Julius Peppers lines up on the outside eye of the offensive tackle, making his position a Defensive End, not a Defensive Tackle.

Thanks for the clarification, Mel. Peppers is still the biggest free agent prize of what was supposed to be a bad free agent class.

I think that the difference between Peterson and Wolfe on special teams is almost nonexistant, and that Peterson can actually provide carries in a pinch, which Wolfe can't really. I wouldn't be shocked to see it come out the way you said though. Just my first impression.

A couple days ago, the Ruth Buzzi-looking Peggy Kusinski from NBC5 reported that tight end Greg Olsen was unhappy and that he wanted to seek a trade from the Bears. Based on what Bernsy's been talking about this afternoon, the Bears are trying to send the disappointing tight end on his way out of town.

I don't know about 'Ruth Buzzi', but I'll give ya' that it does rank fairly high on the 'yikes!' scale ...

CBS Sports' Pete Prisco is advocating an Olsen/Boldin trade.

Great for the Bears - don't think that's enough for the Cardinals.

I loved the little tiff today between Bernstein and Zach, who thinks the Bears are not trying to trade Olsen. Bernstein told him he was wrong. No equivocation. Zach also said that Olsen is fast enough to play WR. Not in Martz's system, Bernstein contradicted him flatly. Left the Cheetoh-headed loon speechless, which is seldom a bad thing.

How good are Zach's sources—or how gullible is he—if he can't get an off-the-record confirmation of what the entire NFL knows the Bears will do next?

Mel, the Cardinals would want a first and/or second round draft pick in addition to Olsen for Anquan Boldin. The Bears don't have nearly enough compensation...

zach has one source: somebody in the bears organization that feeds him the (wrong) info.

How about Devin Hester and a low draft pick thrown in?

Take it for what it's worth, from profootballtalk.com:

Report: Cardinals want a third-round pick for Boldin

Cardinals G.M. Rod Graves has made it clear that his team is willing to trade wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

But what would it take to get Boldin out of Arizona?

Michael Lombardi reported on NFL Network that the Cardinals "only want a third-round pick" for Boldin. That's not too high a price for a starting wide receiver.

But, Lombardi said, the big sticking point is whether a team acquiring Boldin will be willing and able to fork over the money necessary to make Boldin happy. In other words, Boldin won't just cost a third-round pick. He'll cost a third-round pick plus a big new contract.

Boldin said after the season ended that he wouldn't request a trade. But the Cardinals may have come to the realization that their offense is just fine without him, and that they ought to get whatever they can for him. If what they can get is a third-round pick, the Cardinals would apparently be fine with that

Some of you guys just amaze me. In the big picture I would probably have rather had Rolle and Kampman, but I am glad they are making moves to get better. Peppers makes you better, there is no way around that. Your team just signed the guy most experts considered the #1 free agent available and yet you still bitch and complain. They signed a quality RB to go with Forte and they signed a pretty good TE to help with blocking. All of those things are good. Stop bitching for a few mins.

I'm not bitchin' & moanin' that the Bears have made these moves. I thought Bears' President Ted Phillips said specifically on ChicagoBears.com that the Bears wouldn't go "hog wild" in free agency before today's signings.

So here's the question: did he lie or does he not know what going on?

Mel, Phillips contradicted himself on free agency in my opinion.

Not sure what you mean by "still the biggest free agent prize".

Defensive Ends are regarded as greater impact players that defensive tackles.

Julius Peppers was supposed to be the biggest free agent prize, much like Albert Haynesworth was for the Redskins a year ago.

Per the Ravens Insider Tweet .... (unofficial tweeter of the Baltimore AFC Franchise):

New England frontrunner to land Anquan Boldin via trade after Ravens pursued him, according to sources.

I can't say I'm surprised the Patriots and Bill Belichick are the rumored frontrunners for Boldin.

I wonder if this is an indication about Welker's health. Moss, Boldin and Welker would be an incredible group

GD, this much I do know. Randy Moss literally disappeared at times last season with New England and Wes Welker blew out his knee on that field at Reliant Stadium in Houston the second to last Sunday of the '09 regular season. There have been questions, GD, concerning Moss' committment, or lack thereof. Also, if they get Boldin as rumored, I wonder if Welker's knee injury could be career-threatening.
