Sam Smith at it again. No way this happens.

http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/smith_100308.html

-- What about Kobe Bryant as the Bulls’ first choice in free agency this summer? I know. Here we go again. But one time super agent George Andrews, the Chicago attorney who invented the super contract with Magic Johnson’s $25 million deal almost two decades ago, offers this scenario in light of the dustup in L.A. last week after a column suggesting internal Lakers’ divisions. What else is new? It generally is known that Phil Jackson doesn’t have a contract beyond this season and already has addressed reports he’ll be asked to take a pay cut. Jackson expects that, though the talk is if the Lakers don’t repeat—and they’re just on a three-game losing streak—they will look to go for a cheaper coach with Byron Scott. Already this past trading deadline, the Lakers declined to get into talks to upgrade at point guard, like for Kirk Hinrich, because they are in the luxury tax and didn’t want to take on any more payroll. At the cost perhaps of a title? Apparently, so be it. Bryant has an opt-out this summer with the expectation he’ll sign an extension, though he hasn’t. I thought, erroneously, if he left he’d be held to the 35 percent of the cap figure for a free agent changing teams. But he can take with him the 105 percent of his current salary exception, which enables a team to pay him $24 million to start. Of course, the Bulls don’t have that much space. Unless, of course, they can move someone like Hinrich before the July 1, deadline as they did John Salmons.

So here’s the scenario: Kobe doesn’t want to lose Phil, who would quit rather than take the speculated 50 percent pay cut. Plus, the Lakers are getting old with Gasol, Odom and Artest all over 30 before next season. Plus, we know Kobe always has loved the Bulls, meeting with only them and the Clippers before he resigned in 2004 and then demanding a trade to the Bulls in 2007. And the Bulls have kids to grow with like Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah instead of aging veterans. So you add Kobe as your free agent. Now, Kobe has continued to say he’s “a Laker for life,” as he did again in Miami last week. But he still hasn’t signed that extension and Phil’s future remains in question and Bulls managing partner Jerry Reinsdorf always has said he wanted as coach the next Jackson. So what if he could get the last one again? It all sounds fantastic, as in hardly believable. Though Andrews has had his share of successful scenarios. It’s always good to dream. Of course, maybe then the Bulls don’t want a 32-year-old Bryant. Now, that would be funny.

Rose
Kobe
Wade
Lebron
Bosh

? i dont think we'd have room for joakim then, and we need a big man in the middle or else all that talent would be stalemated on the perimeter.

Why would you actively seek out the Bulls section just to post that nonsense? You've already made your NBA thoughts known several times over. That's kinda just being a jerk for the sake of being a jerk. But, this isn't the first time you've done that and it likely won't be the last, so...whatever.

I don't actively seek out any section on this board. I read the board by clicking on "view new posts" in the upper right hand corner. It's the easiest way to read the board & new posts. The "Kobe to the Bulls" headline drew me in.
I didn't criticize you for liking the NBA. It doesn't matter to me either way.
I like Basketball...the college version.

You'd really rather have Phil as a coach than Kobe as a player? I realize Kobe is getting older, but this seems ridiculous.

Are you Dan Bernstein? You've got that white guilt thing?
I have always preferred the lower level of college sports. I love college basketball & have for many years. I love Division 1 FCS & D2 & D3 college football, as well as High School football.
College B-ball games are shorter, they play defense & I love the excitement that surrounds college ball. Watching a 140 to 138 NBA dunk fest isn't very interesting to me. So yea, I would rather watch Duke vs Kentucky than the Celtics vs Lakers, & I'd rather watch Montana vs Appalachian State than LSU VS Florida.
I also prefer attending local racing at tracks in Madison, Rockford & Grundy County, rather than NASCAR events.
But that's just me.

First, congrats on finally learning about the divisions. 2nd, the NBA plays defense, pretty much never has 140-138 games like you saw in the 80's with the Nuggets and a bunch of other teams. Please at least make an attempt to not sound so ignorant when trying to make a point.

I have followed these football divisions for 20+ years, & had a Boy who played D2, which is now called D1 FCS, so yea, I am somewhat familiar with them.
As for the NBA, I haven't watched any NBA games since the Jordan Bulls, so If the NBA has turned into a defensive league I wouldn't know it. I had to go to a Bulls game to watch my Daughter cheer at halftime which was cool, but I couldn't have been more board with the game. All anyone cared about was the stupid dunkin donuts scoreboard race & hoping the Bulls scored 100 points so they win a free Big Mac. College Basketball & football games are 10 times more fun & exciting that the NBA & NFL.

I'm not criticizing you for liking the NBA though...it's just not my cup of tea.

Right, and Im not criticizing you for disliking it. Only a handful of people on here do like it. But I just dont think you're very familiar in general with the sport of basketball. I dont mean that as an insult. But how could you watch the NBA in the 90's(Jordan's Bulls Era) and say they didnt play defense? Didnt you catch any of the Pistons, Heat, or Knicks that decade? Even the Bulls had the #1 defense alot of the years. How can you call 90's basketball 140-138 dunkfests with no defense? I literally cant understand your position at all.

How many times does this have to be explained to you.

There are 4 divisions.
Division 1A(now the FBS)
Division 1AA(now the FCS)
Division 2(not the same as above)
Division 3

The first 1AA champion I see is from 1978. Therefore, it's been that way for 20+ years.

Do you mind saying what school or conference your son played in? Therefore, we can tell which division he actually played in.

I was a Bulls/Jordan bandwagon fan like a lot of people in the '90's. I admit I was a fan of Jordan & the championships. My kids were young & it became a family event watching Bulls games together. The game just doesn't do it for me & I have zero interest in watching NBA games, including the Bull, but I will watch Northern Iowa vs Wichita State.
So to summarize...I guess my position is that I do not like NBA basketball!

Villanova, which is the highest scoring team in the major conferences, averages about 100 points a game per 48 minutes.

This would put them right around 17th in the NBA in scoring.

However, the college game has a 35 second shot clock whereas the NBA has a 24 second shot clock. Even giving them the modest addition of another 5 points a game to make up for many possessions being 11 seconds less, you'd put them at about 105 points a game. That would put them fourth in the league.

So, what were you saying about 140-138 games? The scoring really isn't any different in college, just the game clock is shorter and the shot clock is longer(more wasted time spent setting up offense).
