After watching Foo Fighters Live @ Wembley Blu-ray today, I was reminded of just how consistent Dave Grohl's body of work has been for almost 20 years.

I want to be him when I grow up.

Grohl is a genius. He's the glue that kept Nirvana together. BTW, whatever happened to Krist Noveselic? Did he drop out of the music biz completely?

Actually, it was Kurt Cobain that kept Nirvana together.
Nirvana was no longer together after Kurt shot his face off.

Coincidentally, I just ordered Heavier Than Heaven the other day from Amazon. I read Come As You Are and found it interesting, but have heard good things about Heavier. I have a fascination with the whole Kurt Cobain mystic.

Bands are weird. Hard to believe such a positive, funny, good humored guy like Dave Grohl
could co-exist in a band with K.C. All that said, I still spend more time listening to FF than
Nirvana. Not just because there is alot more FF to listen to, but because I just like it more.
I love Nevermind and IN Utero, but no song on either of those 2 albums can make me giddy
like Long Road To Ruin or Breakout.

interesting introspective on the relationship between kurt and krist. apparently they had a lot of respect but a lot of disdain for each other, too. thought it was interesting than kurt said he felt he couldn't be "funny" around noveselic because he was so pompous and self-righteous.

i think grohl's a genius too.

I respect his work, but I'm not really a fan. There is something missing tempo wise. It seems like the verse just rolls into the chorus. The songs start out with a ton of potential but then it just falls flat with the chorus.

Long Road to Ruin is an awesome video. I think Grohl is one of the most underappreciated musicians of this generation

But I've always thought the Foo Fighters sounded slightly similar to Nirvana every now n then...maybe it's just me?

When you look at the full list of bands that Dave Grohl played with / worked with, he's certainly in the conversation of most influential musicians on what modern rock music has become today.

genius? i like his music too, but lets not get carried away.

I'd say it's a pretty fair statement...I might apply it more to his skills behind the drums than on the guitar and mic, but I think it still is fair.

I mean he's no Don freakin' Henley, but GIVE THE MAN HIS PROPS!!!!!

a: Be in the music business for 20 years and not have a bona fide clunker in your discography.
b: Be in the music business for 20 years and still stay relevant.
c. Be in the music business for 20 years and not turn into a total jag-off.

like i said, i like his music, but i must have a sterner interpretation of the word "genius". he's real fucking good though, i have always admired his versatility.

cant think of any off hand. im not big on the whole "GOAT" or "Genius" or "Best There's Ever Been" stuff when it comes to movies, music, TV, its all based on opinion and personal taste.

i will use this as an example, and it is not to offend shirtless driver or his opinion, i use it just as an example:



a. = opinion. whether or not a cd is a clunker or not is based strictly on personal taste.
b. = opinion. who is to say it is relevant or not. i like all types of music, and i like his music, but what makes his music relevant to one might not to anyone else.
c. = opinion. the guy could be a total jag-off, who knows? i like to think he is a good guy, but not being a jag-off isnt genius-worthy anyway.

only math can define genius by what they can accomplish by the math that's already been given to them.

everything else is *always* subjective. when there is no equation.

some things are just impossible to measure. the one thing we all seem to agree on is that dave grohl rocks, and thats OK by me.

I think I get what you're saying. No doubt Grohl rocks, and he has for a long time through various outlets. I still remember all of the people that thought he would flop when he started Foo Fighters. Safe to say........

IMO, he is one of the greatest "rock stars" of his generation (FWIW).

I also think that "genius" would be a tough word to throw around for any rock musician. But then again he did help to finish off Veruca Salt....

saw dave on soundstage playing with THEM CROOKED VULTURES , (ex queens of the stoneage, ex zep,ex nirvana) i got to tell you those guys really rocked it. the song gunman is a total jam. their cd is way better than the shit thats out there today

Exactly. And thats because he drums for that band. He is by fa (BY FAR) a millions times better on the drums than he his in the Foo Fighters.
