The Yanks just released him yesterday. He is right handed, not terrible, has been here before and can start or come out of the pen. He is by no means great, but he is better than the pile the shark leaves out there every time he tries to convince himself he is better at baseball than football.

Pass. He's just a guy and would only be adding to the big pile of guys that is our bullpen currently.

I'm more interested to see what some of our young arms can do instead of bring in a minimal, if any, upgrade

Woudn't hurt to invite him to the final week of camp to see what he looks like. He did a good job with the A's after the Cubs released him. With the crap they have in the pen now, it would be smart to send him an invite. Not sure he would make the team, but I would take a look.

This kills me to say bring him in, but I know in my heart that pitching from the pen helps to have veterans in that role. Guys that have accepted what they are suppossed to do, not trying to become a starter or the closer. I think they have a few guys more talented but knowing hitters, situations, etc is very valuable for a 2 or 3 out performance.

That is a shitty pen. Marmol and Grabow are decent, but Marmol could dominate or explode. You never know.

Anyhoo, as for Gaudin, somebody will pick him up as a 5th/6th starter or long man. He actually is kinda nasty throwing sliders at right hand hitters. His problem is that he has no effective out pitch to the other side of the plate, i dunno the stats but he gets killed by lefties.

As your 11th or 12th pitcher, you could do alot worse than Gaudin.

This team is going to be a large pile of crap this year. I would expect D Lee and Aram and maybe dempster if he does well enough early on to be traded by the deadline. Once this pen blows enough games the negative attitude will spread and it will be all over. No one is going to give a shit about anything other than their personal stats once they realize that no matter how well they pitch/hit/field/play for the first 6 innings of the game, the pen is going to blow it all to hell worse than greg could ever do.
