So it sounds like it is one of these 2 guys for the final roster spot. Why would Millar be picked over Tracy when Tracy can backup at both 3B and 1B? With the history of injury with Aramis, we need to have a decent backup plan there.

It will probably be millar. Is tracy even on a major league deal? He isn't in that much demand these days so you could probably get him to clear waivers and head to iowa for a while.

I have seen about 3 or 4 spring training games and have yet to see Tracy get an AB. I would be fine with them keeping either. The last bench spot shouldnt be a huge deal and both of these guys seem like they are pro's. Tracy probably has more left in the tank so if I had to take one it would be him.

It makes no baseball sense for any of the reasons mentioned to keep Millar. Tracy is lefthanded, can play third or the outfield, and still has a slim chance to produce anything at the plate. Millar has no chance.

Lou likes him and his persona and everything he brings off the field. I think he knows his teams sucks, and this guy will help keep it light in there. That is the only possible reason that makes any sense to me.

This might surprise some here,but I wanted Tracy also. I think he is a solid addition at 3RD.
I would try to keep Millar in the minors if possible. It can't hurt.

Finally....hendry made a good call. Unlike last season, when he chose to keep David Patten on the team. This season he has made some good calls. Tracy gives then protection at 3rd base, in case Ramirez' achy shoulder acts up. Plus he's a good left handed pinch hitter. Now if Hendry could only improve the bullpen...

Heading into the season, I think the Cubs are a .500 team - but have the ability to surprise. A healthy A.Ramirez to go with Derek Lee is a must. Soriano and Soto must rebound from bad seasons, and they need to get production from the top of the order. Assuming Ted Lilly is healthy, the Cubs top 4 starters are solid. Dempster and Zambrano are quality starters, and Randy Wells in the #4 slot can provide innings. Most teams have issues in the #5 spot - the Cubs are no different. Their bullpen is where the major questions are on the pitching staff - it's hard to predict with an certainty what any of these guys are going to do, including Marmol. We know that Marmol is pretty nasty, but we also know that he tends to make games way too interesting. We don't know if the Cubs have dependable setup men either.

So, all in all, the starting rotation should be a strength assuming that Ted Lilly can come back in mid/late April and throw how he has in the past. If not, having 2 spots filled with uncertainty could spell trouble. The bullpen is the team's biggest question mark, and the offense will look a lot better if Soriano and Soto can provide support for a healthy Ramirez and Lee.

Right now, as I said, I see the Cubs around .500 - I don't think they will get much worse than that, but I do think, if things come together, they have the opportunity for 90 wins. A lot of IF's though.
