Ben Goessling at MASN sports is reporting the Cubs and Nats have discussed a Kosuke Fukudome trade. Fukudome is owed $26.5M over the next 2 years and has a no trade clause. How much of his contract would the Cubs be willing to eat to rid themselves of Fukudome and play Tyler Colvin everyday in right field. $15M?? $18M?? $20M??

Hendry is a boob. He hands them out like Halloween candy.
I hope he has learned his lesson, as it seems we are stuck with him.

He is a boob. Did you hear how defensive he was when Spiegs asked him about the rumor? I think he should do whatever it takes to move Fukudome. Colvin/Nady would be just as good if not better and that could free up a little cash for a bullpen arm which they desperately need.

Just because they free up money doeant mean theyll spend it. Especially considering how much Ricketts owes on his loan. It remains to be seen how he will spend.

I'd be surprised if trading Fukudome freed up any money. I'd guess the Cubs would eat almost all of it. Freeing up a position/getting rid of him are the important things.

if they can trade fuk for any kind of minor league talent, they should, even if it means eating a lot of his contract. get some young guys playing like colvin possibly fuld. if they were to deal fuk right now, that is a good indication that there could be other moves to follow as the spring gets into summer leading up to the trade deadline.

Don't call Hendry a boob, guys. Boobs are beautiful, wonderful things. Hendry is shitbrain.

It's well documented around these parts, there are two distinct kinds of boobs; the soft, wonderful kind and the fucking stupid kind.
Hendry is soft and fleshy, but mainly fucking stupid.

Even if Washington were interested, the Cubs would probably have to pick up about $5 million a season on the remaining years of that contract. I'm not sure of Washington's OF situation though.

Isn't the Nationals payroll only about $44 million in 2010? Seems like a lot to add to that payroll for a guy who's well-beyond his best playing days. A more likely deal, it seems, would be a straight up, Fukudome for an arm trade like the Bradley for Silva trade (cept Silva has another year on his contract beyond Bradley's?).

I wouldn't be in a hurry to get rid of fukedome if they have to eat more than just a little salary. Despite his weak second halves the past two years, he provides value because he gets on base and he plays a solid right field. He's not worth what he's paid, but he's not a complete zero.

Can he be traded to a Japanese team for the rights to that pitcher?

Maybe he's defensive because the rumor like 99 percent of the trade rumors has no basis in reality.

Or maybe he could be an adult, and simply acknowledge the trade has no basis. No reason to act like a whiny bitch about it if it isn't true. It's not like Matt broke the news, he just asked about it.

Fuk is about a 4 million dollar player, so if it takes $18 million for the Nats to take him, so be it.
Colvin will make the MLB min. $425k in 2010 & $600k+ in 2011.

I'd rather have 2 years on Colvin for $19 million than Fuk for $26.2.

Save the Ricketts $7 million, which can buy some nice soap dispensers for the Wrigley bathrooms.

Looks like Colvin is already being elevated to established Major League Ballplayer huh?

Come on...lets relax a little. Nady cant throw, Colvin is young and hasnt been scouted, and Fuk is over-paid yes, but he does have more experience and plays great defense. I would trade Fuk in a heartbeat, but only when the time is right. I dont think now is the time.

If the rumor is the Nationals, that should tell you right there that any deal would require the Cubs eating a huge amount of money. I don't see it.

Not at all, I just can't see what Fuk does better than Colvin.

How can you judge this right now? Colvin has played in how many major league games?

I know...and If I was forced to pick one over the other today, I'd pick Colvin. The problem is the "sample size" on Colvin is way too small to make such a decision on. If Colvin flops, as other cubs prospects have been prone to do, there really is no backup plan.

But in a year with very low expectations, the risk is minimal. I mean what are they gonna win 78 instead of 83?

I think it's a matter of stunting a guy's career with early expectations. It comes down to whether long term this guy would be better off getting 10-15 ABs a week in the Show, or playing every day at Iowa.

I agree that bringing him up to be the 4th or 5th outfielder is a bad idea, but there is limited development value in facing mostly washed up AAA pitching every day.

The twins had no issues moving an all star catcher to make room for Mauer who played a total of 7 games at AAA .
After two full seasons of AA it's time to see what Colvin can do.

This is the year that FUK U will finally play well after April and May. The Nats have Willie Harris and Willy Taveras playing right. Fukudome would be a clear upgrade.
