I understand mistakes are made by umps, but this is a missed call, which happens as well? but when Ramirez sees the play, the 2B sees the play because he ran to cover second and even the batter sees it while running to first base, Lou even sees it between sips, how do 4 umpires miss it?

Now, I don't think this is a Sox type conspiracy to screw the Cubs, but it is the umps sticking together and not overturning a call by own of their own. Ump egos are a terrible thing.

If not for shitty pitching and defense, that call wouldn't matter as much :x

Would have been nice to see Lou argue a little more than he did.

I deem this the terrible call 2010 thread. All bitching about calls can be directed here for the rest of the year. Heck, any sport is fine.

Agreed, agreed, not an excuse, just an example of terrible umpire work right there. One of the four should see the ball rolling ont he ground and it getting picked up.

The worst part about this is Nate didn't even go to his glove. Whether or not the ump sees the first part of the play, he shouldn't miss the player not having to go to his mitt to retrieve the ball. BAD.

I think this retroactively caused Zambrano to suck too.

:| I hear ya, just gettin' grouchy listening to this debacle - Pat and Ron are still talkin' about the call, sayin' that the ump that made the call had his view blocked and he couldn't have made a fair call. That sucks balls...and the Cubs still do, as well...

All the ledge jumping after 1 game that's not even over although I will declare my undying love for chas if the Cubs win.

Anyone catch the conversation at 3rd base between Mc"outh and Ram? That was funny. The umpire glaring in the background was priceless.

This is one ugly fucking baseball team.

They gave up 16 fucking runs, bigfan. You do not win many games doing that.

For a guy that never fails to mention how much of a baby Hawk can be when it comes to umpires, you're certainly throwing some stones in that new glass house of yours.

Frank.....Wrong again!

Stated this was not a conspiracy as Hawk states and agreed it did not have anything to do with the outcome, only pointed out a bad call supported by the other umps, just for the purpose of supporting their fellow ump.

PLUS, I won't spend the next 10 posts complianing about it and how the whole game could have been different if not for 1 strike call back in the third inning.

However, thanks for upholding the Sox fan paranoia stereotype, again and again.

Because umpires make mistakes.

Again, 16-5. That bad call had no bearing on the outcome of today's game.

Maybe the third time I agree it had nothing to do with the outcome of the game and the 3rd time I say umps make mistakes, you will accept that?

Only if you'll finally agree that the bad call had little to nothing to do with the final outcome of the game, damnit! :eye:

Were it not for that one bad call...Soriano would have hit a 3 run homer. Atlanta would have brought in a relief pitcher who the Cubs would have lit up for several more runs, the Cubs bullpen would have pitched shut out ball....and Cubs would have won 16 to 8.

That is BS! The umps are just making up calls against the Cubs.

Oh...and that one pitch in the first inning that the umpire called a ball was just terrible. Zambrano clearly caught the black on the plate and the umpire flat out missed it. That pitch right there....the umpire missed it...and it led to 8 runs for the Braves. That is BS!!

to an extent that call really hurt the cubs. at the time it was a 3 run game. they wouldve had 2 on and nobody out with a potential chance to tie the game or get it back to a one run game. who knows. that call completely changed the momentum of the game. would they still have given up 16 runs? i dont know. im not bitter because they lost i wouldve just liked to see what happens if they get the call correct. the entire landscape of the game couldve been different

Oh lord...

We're already talking about momentum on Opening Day? Wasn't all the momentum gone after giving up 8 runs in the first two innings?

So they lose 9-5 instead of 16-5 if they get the call right.

Momemtum in baseball is only as good as your next day's starter.

they had come back to make it 8-5 and wouldve had 2 on with nobody out. so yes i think there is a possibility they score 1, 2 or maybe more runs and change the way the game was played yes. im not an idiot for thinking that couldve happened. do i think they win? maybe not. but it wouldve given them a chance

Listen, your starter went out there and pitched 1.1 innings and gave up 8 runs. You do not win games doing that regardless of how good or bad the umpiring is.

Fine. It changed everything.

When they finish the season one game behind the Cardinals, then you can blame missing the playoffs on the umps for a missed call 6 months earlier in a game in which they eventually lost by 11 runs.

OK, lets say they tie it up with a HR. 8 all. The Braves still score 8 more runs and the Cubs managed to do precisely dick against the Atlanta bullpen.

how do you know they score 8 more runs? are you carnac the magnificent? that changes the way the game is played. different pitchers. different strategy. different ways of thinking. different attitudes.
