I'm not about getting even, but I did hear it after the fact and he completely misrepresented what I said.

Laurence is good to work with and I never have a problem with him. I like Laurence quite a bit, actually.

Ranger,

I like you. You being teamed up with Laurence, is why I listened two nights ago (now). I understand what you were trying to say with your AJ/Jeter argument. It was still stunningly bad.

Is it really? All I said was that Sox fans have sort of an irrational love of AJ, which would translate into him having to do something terrible in order for him to fall out of favor with his fanbase. I didn't say AJ was as important to the Sox as Jeter was to the Yanks (because he's not), or that AJ was as good of a player (because he's not). What I said was, for some reason, people LOVE Pierzynski at a ridiculous level.

And when I said that Buehrle and Konerko don't get the same love, well, the proof of that is when people called for both of them to be run out of town. And it happened in the last 4 years to each of them.

Bottom line, and my original point: AJ has about as much equity with Sox fans as Jeter has with NY fans and it would take A LOT for them to hate him.

Trust me...I don't agree with it, because I don't think he deserves it more than some other guys do. But AJ gets the benefit of the doubt with Sox fans more than any other player.

A couple weeks ago I tuned in during the middle of Laurence's conversation with a caller so I don't know what precipitated this, but they were talking about basketball and Laurence was saying "I would dog walk you! I would DOG WALK YOU!"

I don't know if the caller questioned Sir Laurence's skills on the hardwood or something, but it was pretty embarrassing to hear him saying that.

What in the world made all of us feel this way about the M*A*S*H theme? I let out a big YES, when I saw this thought. I either became very angry and went to bed, or changed the channel.

The melancholia of the theme song made you feel like another day had come and gone, and it sounded so different from the other theme songs of Fox 32 reruns (Home Improvement, Simpsons, Seinfeld, Power Rangers) that you knew you'd be watching something that wasn't really like the other shows you'd tend to watch. You're somehow breaking a rule. You've gone out of bounds. It's time for bed.

Yup. Fun was over whenever I saw that helicopter flying in (although sometimes I would sneak and stay up another 90 minutes for Sanford & Son, All In The Family and WKRP).

LoHo gets some creepy callers. Somebody just opened the call with -

"Laurence, I love everything you do. I think you're an amazing man..."

I think we all love Laurence, but amazing?

Here's a quick take on LoHo show tonight. Maybe if Laurence is lurking this will draw him out.

Hi Laurence.

The reason that you can't sell defense in baseball as opposed to football is because defense in baseball is more subtle. You can sell defense in football because great football is often spectacular as in a sack and, more importantly, they can initiate more action, via a blitz or jumping a route. Football defense can be more proactive in how they initiate action and it is more apparent since you can see a blitzer on-screen from a standard football camera angle.

Baseball defense is almost entirely reactive outside of positioning. "Aggressive defense" in baseball is not so apparent since due to the nature of the camera shot it is often off-screen if an infielder is charging or a guy gets a great jump on the ball.

Spectacular football defense = action-packed excitement
Spectacular baseball defense = nuanced outside of a diving catch which may not necessarily be good defense at all

Evenings on the Score doing really well in the key 14-year-old girl demographic.

Did I hear him call the WSJ the Washington Journal?

At first, I was surprised I didn't know that existed. Then he later said Wall Street Journal.

Actually, LoHo mentioned WSJ.com and then wallstreetjournal.com, which I don't think exists. He was actually referring to a story by Matthew Futterman in which a number of teams are now placing more of an emphasis on defense as MLB starts the 2010 regular season. This is the link to the story Laurence was referring tonight...

No shit. A "guilty pleasure" is one thing, to have it be an open to a show in the 3rd largest media market....well, that's something completely different.

Especially for someone who tries to act like a tough guy.

football offense and defense can have a direct relation to each other's success while in baseball, a good defense brings the team no closer to offensive success

This could be a thing, fellas. I'm sure Laurence would appreciate more of his callers referring to him as an amazing man. Maybe compliment his hygiene. Give him props on his fashion sense. I may need to call in some time soon...

I often wonder if Larry has friends or (more likely) family members call in under various pseudonyms to tell him how great he is and give his show a false sense of popularity. I mean, we all hear the occasional "Love your show" comment from the occasional caller on the occasional show, but Larry's callers often tend to be of the "You're the greatest host on this channel and are better than all those guys during the day" ilk. Very suspect.
