Someone needs to tell Touchdown Jesus that it's better for ERA & WHIP stats to be the lowest in the league...not the highest.

I agree. It's good to see the Doc interested in a sports debate.

What are you talking about? I've been very NCAA Hoops/NASCAR debatey of late.

I guess you're partly correct as I've avoided the Cubs section for the better part of a year because it was dominated by a poster(s) that I don't care for. Now that the season is under way, though, I'll probably reenter the fray.

C'mon Doc, name names.

I never cared for that Nas character but, from what I can tell, he doesn't post here anymore so I guess I'm good.

So then you would rather have Javy on the Sox than Mark?

No, you can't just run numbers out there for everything. Javy completely lost the trust of Guillen, and when that happens, you have no alternative but to ship a guy somewhere else.

No. Javy will help you get to the playoffs but he won't help you win them. I'd rather have Buehrle who can (and did) do both.

So when your #s say Buehrle is better than Z you like it. When your #s say Javy is better than Buehrle you reject it. Got it. Another reason why stats can be shown to support whatever position you want to take.

Sure you did. Your think Buerhle is a better pitcher than Z and used those numbers to back it up. When the same numbers showed Javy is better than Buerhle, you said no you would rather have Buerhle. You like the #s when they fit your opinion.

Let's just say that Vazquez is a unique animal. I'm not sure how they derive these numbers exactly, but if you looked at his starts I would guess that he tends to dominate people early in the year, and when you need him to come up big down the stretch he is nowhere to be found. Stats love Vazquez. GMs see the big strikeout numbers and the 220 innings every year and on paper, the guy is a stud. This is why people always trade for him. For some reason in his case he just isn't reliable at the level you need a #1 or #2 to be, and this is also why he is frequently dealt away from contending clubs.

I'm not going to offer anything on the Buerhle/ Zambrano debate, but just wanted to point out that Vazquez is a riddle in an enigma, always has been.

Javy is also a strikeout pitcher. Buerhle is not.

There's a reason Javy has been on about 7 different MLB teams.
