The "Oh lordy mama" part is the best. He has sort of a whiter Rick Astley sound.

my skin was crawling when i watched that live. i felt really bad for the kid though, he was a nice kid. he had a great voice for jazz and big band/swing and did a great dean martin voice. at this point, that's what he's doing professionally; and it's decent. he was only 16 at the time he did this. but it was one of the biggest miscalculations to think that he could break out of that mold. he had no range at all.

Some pretty good performances overall last night. That Tim Urban guy has
gone about as far as he possibly could, if not further. He was just plain
awful last night and looked like a deer in headlights. Big Mike and Lee
DeWyze were probably the standouts. Those two with Bowersox and
the funky dressing Siobhan look like the final 4 at this point.

I agree with you 100% on the final four. They stand out from the group...but that is not saying a whole lot. I think the next to go will be the blonde chick. She is just bad bad bad.

I agree with you as well TBone, those should be the final 4. I think Lee hit a grand slam last night, definitely his best performance.

Power Rankings after Usher week
10) Tim is just plain terrible - makes me wish Sonjaya was back.
9 & 8) Didi & Katie are great for bathroom & sandwich breaks.
7) Garcia is 25% great and 75% suck.
6) Aaron is good and "adorable" and will probably be a decent country singer .
5) Casey is cougar fodder and can sing, but doesn't have the pipes for the finals.
4) Big Mike is very good, but where would you find him on the radio?
3) Siobhan's got great pipes but had a bad week - very flat.
2) Lee was great. first time he looked confident.
1) Bowersox can sing the phone book and would sound great.

Lennon/McCartney night went smoother than the Stones disaster.
Garcia's going home.

Hmm maybe, I think you are underestimating the amount of votes he'll get for being funny to 14 year old girls. We aren't at the point yet where only the worst singer goes.

I'm predicting/hoping Aaron...very boring every week

Dial Idol has Garcia as the worst this week, but well within the margin of error. The only safe ones they have are Lee and Crystal.

All of these people are awful. I'll give Bowersox some credit for her technical proficiency and mimetic accuracy, but her performances are completely devoid of originality.

Good use of the save last night.
No way Big Mike should have gone home.
Something like last night usually serves as a wake up call for some who step it up, and totally unnerves others.

2 eliminations + return of Lambert = most anticipated AI episode of the season

Here is hoping that next week marks the end of Tim & one of the threesome of Aaron, Garcia & Katie.

Power Rankings after Lennon/McCartney week
9) Tim - Please go away, isn't there a disney production that needs you?
8) Garcia - 20% great and 80% suck - do a sublime song already, Santeria?
7) Aaron - getting more boring every week, 16 going on 67.
6) Katie - She's actually improving at the right time by picking better songs.
5) Big Mike - Whoa big fella, enjoy the spike that the scare will generate & pick better songs.
4) Siobhan's - Still got great pipes and Lambert should be a great mentor for her.
3) Lee - dude you're supposed to do the singing, not the audience
2) Casey - not sure where the Vedder'esque tone was all this time, but I'm glad it came out.
1) Bowersox - clear cut clubhouse leader all the way to the final.

I agree that she's the leader, but there's absolutely nothing interesting about her. It's like she's a graduate of Jack Black's "School of (Folk) Rock." Everything about her is studied, premeditated, and derivative.

There's nothing interesting about any of them.

Finding Carrie Underwood ruined that show because they'll never find anyone that will be that successful again.

What about a younger, better Darius Rucker ? They would have to cancel the show
after a season finding a mega star like that right Dr. Ken? 8)

And she goes to Mike North's dentist.

I would say that Siobhan has the potential to be interesting, but it's a little too early to tell about her. For someone who so enthusiastically advertises her musical background, she really has no idea how to sing or what to do with her voice.

None of them are a finished/polished product right now.
From all the seasons, Daughtry and Lambert were the most refined performers while on the show. You knew what their album was going to be before it (or they  ) ever came out.
Bowersox is probably most XRT ready, but we get no insight into her ability as a songwriter.
Taylor Hicks might be a commercial flop, but all AI contestants should have his integrity.

He never did an ad for Just For Men. Being a salty dog myself, I found
this to be very noble. I looked at one of his CD's once but put it back on
the shelf.

I thought at first she could be interesting but I'm thinking all she can do is scream a note and she sometimes misses that which is brutal. She butchered that song last week where she actually had to sing. It was awful.

But, I suppose, with the right song choices, she could do something. At least she's memorable. That Casey guy looks like a mannequin but I'm sure he'll end up singing country songs next year like every other American Idol - Underwood, Pickler, Covington, Gokey, DeGarmo, Kristy Lee Cook, I think there were others. That dark-haired girl this year, Katie?, will end up there too.

After being less than thrilled with his first album which the AI producers were in charge, he insisted on artistic control of the 2nd release, and got himself fired from the label.
Last I read anything, he was singing "beauty school dropout" in a production of "Grease"

is that an indictment of country music fans or country music itself?
why do so many failed and flamed out pop and rock musicians gravitate to country?

I wonder that also. I believe because Country is pretty expansive at this point ranging from Pop to Southern Rock and so it's easier to find a little niche and settle in. Plus the fans buy a lot of music. Not sure.

Great point doc.
Rock & pop fans tend to "steal" the music rather than buying it.

So are country fans too dumb to figure out where to get the music for free?

I was leaning towards too honest ( you know since Doc's one of them) but it certainly open to interpretation.
