They are just a bunch of crap. When does Tommy get rid of Hendry, Lou etal?

I have been critical of Ricketts for his passive approach to a fucked up situation. When you take over a healthy business you leave it alone. When you take over a fucked up business you clean house. Ricketts should have tarted over. The problem Ricketts has is he is the new kid in the club...a Baseball newbie & he doesn't have "a guy". He needs to find a Baseball guy to run his club. Who that is I have no idea. But keeping Hendry & Lou around is just a waste of a year. Hendry should have been fired 3 times over for the irresponsible contracts that he has given to guys like Bradley & Soriano.
It just baffles me how Chicago can be saddled with incompetent leadership in the two most popular professional sports franchises in the city. Neither team has the balls to make decisions & improve their teams & organizations.

If this team is more like the last 16 innings than the first 9, tons of pressure will be on Ricketts to make a move before the deadline if they are in it.

As they showcase Colvin and everyone knows about Castro, people will come looking for these guys and I dont think Ricketts will part with young cheap talent, thats the team he wants next year! Colvin at 1B, Vitters at 3B (Saves 30 million $$$), Soriano gets shipped for nothing and they pay 75% of his deal, but still saves $40 million if they put Brett Jackson in.

Lilly goes away, Marshall starts, saves $5 million, Demp goes for some rookie saves $10 mill

If they trade Zambrano as well, they could drop close to $60 million in payroll.

Maybe a Japanese team takes Fuku back with 1 year left.

So you expecting them to be the 80's and 90's crapball era all over again.

Hendry? Piniella?

FINAL YEAR!

Soriano?

He'll be here through 2014 when his contract expires unless Mr. Ricketts wants to eat most of that ridiculous contract.

i think ricketts is playing it very smart so far. smart thing number 1 was to stop signing expensive free agent talent to "get the cubs over the hump". this team is not getting over the hump. he basically has laid it out to to hendry and piniella that this is the team, have a few bucks to cheaply fill some glaring holes, and lets roll this shitpile out there and see what you have. i am very interested to see what comes about in june and july, especially if they give colvin everyday at bats and he is producing, and some of the other youngsters at AAA start to show some life. THAT will be the time to pull the plug and start purging.

i think he is smart to stand pat for a while and see up close what is going on with the team before doing anything too crazy. but i think by next spring, this team will look RADICALLY different.

(for chrissakes, there's 159 games left to go ... possibly more ... come back to this in July or June maybe ... )

It doesnt have to be that way. You can do everything BigFan suggested but you have to make good moves.

If they can tred water until near the trade deadline and then make a couple deals to aquire bullpen help, they might have a chance at the division. But if the Cards or Brewers get too far up, there will be no point in making any deals at that point. As I have stated from back in the winter months, the bullpen is the major problem and Hendry did NOTHING to address this problem.

First off, it's been a few games. Secondly, nobody wants the bad players on this team unless they are trading similarly bad players (and their contracts) in exchange.

If the season doesn't go their way, then, perhaps they can move Derek Lee in July for some prospects, but he's a free agent after the season. It's way too early too panic though.

All they need to do is get rid of Fontenot and start Baker until we're ready for the Castro Swap. That's a great start right there. Team is immediately better, with a better plan in the wings.
It's time to launch smardjinotgonnarelieveanymore soon too. You might put him in in a mop-up roll just to make sure he's really the turd that he smells like. That slot is better used by just about anyone right now.
