I miss this show. Loved listening to it on the way to golf early on a weekend.
Hope things are going well for you otherwise Tom.

New life...
'The Fan Cave Radio Show' hosted by Tom Morgan, with Phil Rogers and Dave Hoekstra. Wednesdays from 4-5 pm central time, beginning April 14 on talkzone.com. Rebroadcasts will be available to be heard 24/7 on the talkzone website.
Listeners can call in with comments or questions about a current sports topic, or to find out the value of a sports card or collectible. Maybe call in with a funny, sports related story. 1-888-463-6748.
If it's not possible to call in during the show, tweet a question or comment to Tom during the week. Twitter id tcrowntom. I'll also be checking these boards for comments, ideas, criticism, etc.
The goal of the show is to be fast moving, fun, entertaining and informative. And the listeners will be a big part of that.
If you're bored, sick of the same stuff every day on regular radio, or have an hour to kill at work, tune in!

I've got a gem mint 10 Ty Griffin rookie card, what do you think I can get for it? This kid is going to be a star someday.

Tom-

I've got a lot of 1991 & 1992 stuff in my garage (sets/commons). Is this stuff still of little or no value? I've got shelves in my garage full of sets that seem like they're never gonna be worth anything.

What about an Alex Rodriguez Appleton Foxes promo card (I foget the brand, Classic maybe)? I'd think that's worth holding onto, right?

Thanks, I'll try to give the show a listen. 8)

I'll trade you a Scott Ruffcorn for the Ty Griffin.
I'm not saying the 91/92 stuff won't ever be worth anything, but right now...ugh

Just got off the phone with Dave Cook from Hoosierbat.com. He'll be one of the sponsors of 'The Fan Cave Radio Show' wednesdays from 4-5pm on talkzone.com.
Dave will be giving away 6 BATS to one caller or emailer EACH WEEK on our show. Any question or comment which I deem worthy will get in a drawing for the bats each week. So if you call about your 1988 topps cards that won't qualify. Call in # during the show will be 1-888-463-6748.
My twitter id is tcrowntom. You can tweet me a question if you aren't available to call during the show. I'll only use questions I like.

I've never gone to Hoosier Bat Company, but Dave has a couple items for sale at my shop. I'm going to go see his place soon. He's a great guy. His website is hoosierbat.com if you're interested.

I've been to the shop a few times, pretty much a hop, skip and a jump for me.

First 'The Fan Cave Radio Show' airs today from 4-5 pm central time on talkzone.com
http://www.talkzone.com/shows/199/fancave.html

A few of the subjects planned for today...Ernie's 512 home run bat auction value, Hoekstra's Chicago, Lindbergh or Lindberg- aviator or Iwo Jima flag raiser cut signature, The Afternoon Phil, calls and emails from listeners, the frig in the garage diet... plus Hoosierbat.com will be giving away 6 bats to 1 caller/tweeter each week for 13 weeks in a drawing I do at the end of each show.

Tune in and join in.

Tom

Lots of rough edges to smooth out, but the potential is there for this to be a very good show. It is WAY different doing the online version, compared to the regular radio show. But I'll get used to it.
1st 'The Fan Cave Radio Show' 4/14 edition... http://bit.ly/9YMhb7

I just gave the first show a spin. It probably needs some polishing but it has some
potential and since it is only an hour you should be able to find topics and things to
talk about. My only gripe was that I hoped for more memorabilia talk and such but
I am guessing you need more listener participation to make that work. I really enjoyed
the old show. Best of luck. If you keep posting the shows out here, I'll continue to
give it a try for a while. Tough time slot for a lot of people to listen to and I won't
sit by my computer to listen to a show unless I happen to be working.

Thanks for the input tbone.
Time slot really doesn't matter unless you plan on calling in. Show will be on talkzone.com 24/7 to listen to. Questions can be emailed or tweeted during the week.
We're going to mix in guests with sports talk and still have plenty of memorabilia talk mixed in. In addition to the memory lane auction guest towards the end of each show, I'm going to have a segment where I talk about prices of a variety of items each week.

Cool, I'll continue to listen. I like the idea. If I ever get down to dig
through some of my boxes of stuff and come across anything, I'll e-mail
the show. I know you have been nice enough to appraise a few things
off the cuff for me in the past.

By the way, my pricing segment will be called 'Bucks in the Belfry'
I'll be looking for pricing on some unusual items each week. My take on the Pete Rose betting slip autograph from the board above will probably be part of next week's segment.

Dear Tom Morgan:

In 1977, when I was twelve (12) years old, I somehow managed to get backup catcher Fran Healy's autograph on a program prior to a game at Yankee Stadium. Since The Glorious New York Yankees won the World Series that year, I am thinking that this autograph is worth about seven thousand dollars ($7,000.00). I will even include the entire program for no extra charge.

What do you say to my offer?

P.S. "Bucks in the Belfry" is a money slogan!

When Fran Healy is elected to the Hall of Fame, I'll pay you $7000 for that item.

Well, that is very disappointing, because I do not believe that Fran Healy has a very good chance of being elected to the Hall of Fame. I can see you drive a hard bargain. I will take five thousand dollars ($5,000.00).

Since you mentioned the Hall of Fame, how about these apples. When I was a kid, Hall of Famer Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto did commercials for The Money Store, and Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio did commercials for Mr. Coffee. One time, I had my mother film me pretending to be Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto while doing the Money Store commercial and Joe DiMaggio doing the Mr. Coffee commercial LINE FOR EXACT LINE. Of course, in those days, there was no sound on the video, but, trust me, it was spot on! FOR NO EXTRA CHARGE I will throw in copies of the original tapes of these performances, which will take the lucky purchaser back to a golden age of broadcasting! I even wrote to Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto and Joe DiMaggio to tell them about it, but they never wrote back. FOR NO EXTRA CHARGE I will throw in true and accurate photocopies of copies of the rough drafts of these letters.

To summarize, you will get:

1. 1977 official game program with autograph of Fran Healy, who caught two (2) no-hit games (not that game);
2. Copies of silent tapes of replicated Money Store and Mr. Coffee commercials from the 1970's, the "Golden Age of Commercials";
3. Copies of rough drafts of letters to Hall of Famers Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto and Joe DiMaggio, which I would bet anything that they actually read;
4. My Notarized certificate of authenticity.

I very much doubt that you will even want to resell these items. Shall we do business?

I can see for sure that you are a very shrewd businessman. If I had to guess, I would say that you badly want these items, but you are simply trying to strike the best deal. Why don't you just make me an offer, and we will go on from there.

BEFORE YOU DO, however, please allow me to sweeten the pot!

In 1973, I was a very young boy, and my father took me to a New York Football Giants game at the Yale Bowl against the Dallas Cowboys. I still have the ticket stub from that game! Now, very few people realize that the New York Football Giants played at the Yale Bowl while Yankee Stadium was being renovated. This item, therefore, is the perfect chance to win bets!

Let us say you are in a bar with a friend. You cast out the bait as follows:

"Hey, I wonder what the record of the New York Football Giants was at Yale Bowl."

Your friend: "What are you talking about? The New York Football Giants never played at Yale Bowl."

You: "I will bet you fifty dollars ($50.00) that they did."

Then you whip out the ticket stub and shove it in his face! This item will ACTUALLY MAKE YOU MONEY AND/OR BEER!

What say ye, Mr. Tom Morgan! Can I be a guest on your show?

If you can get past some feedback from one of the phones, it was a much better Fan Cave Radio Show today...http://www.talkzone.com/episodes/199/2312.html
You can hear the rebroadcast 24/7.
We're getting there.
From now on I'll only be posting in the memorabilia/plugs section.
