I was wondering if people on here think the NFL did the wrong thing, by having the draft on when most of the other sports are on, like the NBA/NHL Playoffs and Major League Baseball.

I read where Mark Cuban wasn't happy about it, and people thought the NFL was arrogant for doing this and also putting a Sunday Night Football game against the World Series.

My thoughts on the draft being at night, well the NFL wouldn't put it on at night if people weren't going to watch, back when this started being on t.v., it was on a Tuesday at noon, they just did it because people are watching this. I think if your a league, mostly MLB or NBA, and your worried that more people will watch the draft, isn't that your problem, not the NFL's. The NFL isn't showing a game, just guys going to new teams, if you are worried you can't beat that, maybe you need to look how your stuff is ran.

On the Sunday night game against the World Series, I think the World Series needs the Cubs to beat the NFL in ratings that night, somebody keeps saying if the Yankees are there, baseball will win, my thought to that if you MLB, it shouldn't matter, your showing a championship game against a regular season game, and you can't win that's again your problem not the NFL's.

I think the NFL is just giving their fans what they want.

On Saturday at noon, it was the only interesting thing on television to watch.

On Thursday at 7pm it was competing with a lot more things that were interesting. I know I watched Survivor and Community before I switched back to the draft. After a few minutes of reading the scroll at the bottom I knew what happened.

It's only about 10 minutes of real action with 2 and a half hours of filler. It's just like the Transformers movie.

So, yes, I think it was a mistake, but it probably did better ratings because less people watch television at noon on Saturday.

Well just to show how the NFL Draft did last night

The NFL Draft was indeed ready for primetime.

ESPN drew a 5.4 overnight rating for coverage of the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, up 26% from a 4.3 for last year's first round, which took place on a Saturday afternoon.

As in years past, the NFL Draft topped its NBA Playoff competition head-to-head. Cavaliers/Bulls Game 3 drew a 2.1 overnight on TNT, while Lakers/Thunder drew a 3.0. Overnights for the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Versus were not available.

To put the 5.4 overnight in perspective, ESPN drew a 3.6 for first round coverage of The Masters, which featured Tiger Woods' return to professional golf.

On NFL Network, coverage of the draft drew a 0.95 overnight, up 44% from last year's 0.66.

Of all the major sports leagues, the NFL has replaced Major League Baseball as this country's most popular sport. However, I don't think it was so smart to have the 75th NFL Draft on in primetime. For starters, I was reading USAtoday.com, and I'm not making this up. ESPN & NFL Network, which broadcasted the first round of last night's draft, had a "Red Carpet" show 90 minutes before NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell uttered the name Sam Bradford of Oklahoma as the #1 overall pick. Joan & Melissa Rivers weren't available, but Alyssa Milano of the new ABC sitcom "Romantically Challenged", along with "Biggest Loser" trainer Jillian Michaels, Dan Lauria from "Wonder Years" fame, and actor Josh Charles worked the Red Carpet for last night's NFL Draft outside New York's Radio City Music Hall.

Thankfully for me, I was nowhere near a TV to see the "Red Carpet" show. I think having the NFL Draft on in primetime wasn't smart besides the other games that were playing opposite it in MLB, the NHL & NBA Playoffs. Thursday's a big night for prime time TV to begin with, especially because two of TV's most popular shows air opposite one another, CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" & ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" at 8p. Needless to say, both shows draw huge viewers in that time slot. Having the NFL Draft on opposite these shows would actually disrupt viewing habits and there are fans of both shows that wouldn't drop whatever they're doing to see who's been drafted and what team.
