11 Warriors (a dOSU blog) ranks the Big 10 QB's.

http://www.elevenwarriors.com/2010/05/best-of-the-big-ten-quarterbacks.html

I really agree with this list. I think Adam Weber does deserve the 3rd spot, although many will disagree. He faded big time last year and his completion percentage was pretty bad, but I think he is a good QB. And I think Purdue has some really amazing talent behind center. We'll see if Marve lives up the hype.

Dan Persa gets the nod at #10... alot to prove. Couldn't rationalize putting him higher, but I would have thought he'd get some credit for his performance at Iowa last year. I would have probably put him one higher... better than Illinois.

IU's QB deserves to be higher that the bottom spot.

That was my biggest issue with the article. I'm not saying Chappell is a top 3 in the big ten, but he's probably in the 5-7 range.

Iowa is several spots too high.

Who would you put higher??? I thought that was a slam dunk. I suppose you could make a case for Tolzein, but they didn't ask him to do much. Both Weber and Cousins faded at the end of last year. Pryor? Maybe. He did win a BCS game. Stanzi is the Manzi and USA is #1. ;)

Who would you put lower? I frankly think the QB is only as good as the time he has to make something happen. Chappell could possibly be a QB, but no one will ever know if he doesn't have time to throw the ball.

At this point in time, I would say Stanzi is a top 3 QB in the Big Ten. The only ones I'd argue are in that conversation are Cousins, Pryor and Tolzein. Weber is talented enough to be there but they have messed with his head a ton. Now I'm not debating the fact that he should be number 1, but the QB position actually sucks in the Big Ten as a whole. Pryor would probably be my number 1 but that's more on the potential to repeat his Rose Bowl performance than the full body of work.

One thing to note is that article actually came from a OSU blogger.

At a minimum, OSU and MSU. Probably Wisconsin as well. Possibly Purdue, but that's still speculative.

I don't think Weber is any great shakes.

Cousins faded last year. Tolzien is good, but not great mechanics. Having Toon and Clay certainly helps him though. I still think Stanzi did more with less. Give the guy credit for coming back from an awful injury to win a bowl game.

Any rating for Pryor is based on projections....But like I said, I think IB and I are on the same page. I think there are a top 4 and everyone else. You can argue who's number 1 and 2 etc.

At the very least, Chappell deserves to be above NU's and Illinois QBs who have done nothing so far. I mean come on, Chappell was one of the bright spots for IU last year.

Maybe a bright spot for IU, but not better than Persa, in my opinion. We have an experienced offensive line and that will make all the difference. Persa has wheels and has a decent arm. He is pretty perfect for our offensive scheme. He's smart and has great leadership skills. He did contribute to our win over #4 ranked Iowa last year. I will go out on a limb and say that Persa has a better year than Chappell will in 2010.

Come on Mud. NU could be lining up Spanky at QB and you would say he was going to have a better year. That is no shocker. I think any objective reader would say Chappell at the very least needs to be moved up a couple spots. Even some like Vince who say he is 5-7.

If you can tell me you can protect Chappell, then I would move him up. But you can't. It's not like I'm arguing Persa should be top 5 (or even 8.)... but he has a much better chance of doing that than Chappell does.

But I will say that both should be ranked higher than Scheelhaase. If you are knocking Persa for not knowing what he can bring to the table, then you have to say the same for Scheelhaase. And I think it is fair to say that NU's line should be better than the Illini's.

Let's also remember that NU's spread isn't easy to learn and Persa has had a full 2 years to learn it. I think that counts for something.

Maybe I'm placing to much emphasis on protecting the QB, but I think it is very important when you are judging QBs.

at the end of the day we are splittin' hairs... both of our QBs will be towards the bottom of the Big 10 unless they can get a decent run game going. Which is pretty doubtful for both squads.

Yeah, I think we're pretty much in agreement here.

I am a little suprised Pryor wasn't number 1, he is coming in as a top heisman candidate. I guess it could be that Pryor doesn't play all the time like he did in the Rose Bowl. If he plays this season like he did in the Rose Bowl, Ohio State will have a good chance to play for the national championship.

I will agree with the people on Chappell, I think he should be ahead of the Illinois quarterback.
