Can Piniella, promote Sandberg. Why not?

maybe im in the minority, but i dont have a huge problem with lou. we all know he is gone, but i dont get the feeling the teams failings are due to him. i do feel that he this team is hopeless decline now, and once you get to that point, a coach like lou isnt going to be a guy you want. they took a stab at him to get them over the top, and it didnt work. now you have the fallout.

if i were an owner, i would never give long-term massive deals. i know i know, the big ticket guys want 10 years and a shitload of dough, but to be a long-term success, i think your roster has to be fluid. when you get pinned down like the cubs are now, it just makes it next to impossible to pull out once things go bad. there are certain guys who have earned the right to get paid, but as an owner or a GM, id be looking for solid 2nd-tier free agents for shorter deals.

piniella is likely gone after the year. they wont fire him. no coach can make this team win this year. if sandburg is your guy, dont saddle him with this clusterfuck. let him start a season fresh, go through spring training, and give him a chance to build something. throwing him into this mess sounds like a bad idea to me. why throw him into a bad situation like this? if they name him manager in the off-season, the cubs can at least go into a fresh season with some positive feelings.

I don't have a huge problem with Lou either. As the saying goes you can't shine shit. Our two biggest RBI producers have been awful this year. The bullpen is beyond a train wreck. He's definitely made some questionable decisions, but isn't top 5 in our biggest problems.

Possibly you get a manager who could say something more than "what can you do?"...."Whaddya gonna do?"

Possibly you could get a manager that plays the productive players and benches the non-productive players regardless of tenure or size of paycheck

Possibly you could get a manager that...every once in a while gets in a players face or yells at his team. Not always....but when is the last time Lou called out a player? He has made excuses and lame talk for years around lazy plays and non-hustle plays.

Possibly you could get a manager tha....oh fuck it.

What are you gonna do? If its me...I get rid of the whole lot....Kenney, Hendry, Pinella...GONE. I'm tired of it.

I don't think Lou has the authority to promote Sandberg.

The struggles of this team has little to do with the manager. Its not like they are in 1 run games where he blows a call in the 9th every night. Promoting Sandburg makes no sense right now. If they actually do the fire sale thing then he would be a good choice to work with all the young talent that is hopefully acquired.

this team sucks regardless of the manager. put joe torre in the dugout. put charlie manuel in the dugout. put tony larussa in the dugout. guess what? this team blows. they just hired the premier hitting coach in the major leagues and the offense has been worse than ever. this shitfest falls on the players shoulders. not the coaching staff. dont get me wrong i wouldnt complain if lour or rothschild were replaced. and i surely wouldnt complain if hendry was gone. but thinking that just canning them is going to fix anything anytime soon is wishful thinking and a waste of time

Is this yet another series the Cubs "should" have one schmitty?

You nailed it.

Are the Cubs playing today. No schmitty "analysis".

I was working today, but if you consider yourself a contender, you shouldn't lose a series to the Pirates at home.

Pathetic. All the way around.
