Acthung Baby is a classic but I've never ben able to tell if Joshua Tree is a masterpeice or a pile of steaming, weepy, pretentious crap.

It's frontloaded as hell is what it is. The first three songs are amazing, of course, but people rarely carry that passion over through the rest of the album. There's a reason: it's not as good. I mean, "Bullet the Blue Sky" is pretty good, and "In God's Country" and "One Tree Hill" are good too, and I like "Exit," but it's not an album that captivates you from beginning to end like War or even Achtung Baby (which sags in the middle but closes out strong). It's regarded as a classic on the wings of the first three songs. That's all.

I gotta disagree. I like "Trip Through Your Wires" but think it would've fit in better on Rattle And Hum.
That said, take TTYW off Joshua Tree = perfect 10 song album.

I'm one of the biggest U2 fans out there and this album is about a 4.5 to a 5 for me on a scale of 10. As my buddy put it , It's U2 doing Coldplay on this album. Alot of dark, slow tunes and not much energy on it and the critques claimed it to be a rocking album .I don't know what the fuck their smoking unless they threw Unforgettable fire on by accident but this album sounds lazy to me .

It won't stop me from seeing them in September as I've seen every show they have done in Chicago since 84'..Button 48 please.

Slappy my streak of every U2 show only dates back to 1997 Id like to hear your ranking of all the albums Slapnuts...but I like the new album...the coldplay comment i think woulda been more descriptive of atomic bomb album.

The new album to me sounds like joshua trees songs meet achtung baby production value. Excluding the ladies gap boot commercial...its good overall.

To Ed and RPB,
Are you guys saying you haven't missed any Chicago shows since 84 and 97, respectively?
That's pretty impressive, especially for Ed. That's almost 20 shows or so.

6/27/97 Soldier Field
6/29/97 Soldier Field

No one asked me for my ranking, but here goes. Favorite U2 Albums.
1. Achtung Baby
2. The Joshua Tree
3. War
4. The Unforgettable Fire
5. Boy
6. No Line On The Horizon
7. Pop
8. How To Dismantle........
9. Zooropa

11. All That You Can't Leave Behind

Not including R&H, Wide Awake In America, or Under A Blood Red Sky.

I've never seen them live... :(

Since ranking the albums seems to be the cool thing to do, here we go...

1)Achtung Baby
2)All That You Can't Leave Behind
3)How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
4)Zooropa
5)Joshua Tree
6)No Line on the Horizon

As for everything else, I can't honestly rank them, as I've listened maybe once or twice and aside from the recognizable singles, I really don't remember what they were like...well, I do remember this...

Last)Pop

For those of you who saw the '92 show in Tinley, was it the one with BAD & Public Enemy as opening acts?
That still ranks in the top 5 of my favorite shows.

Yes. And The Pixies opened the 3/31/92 show.
I believe tickets go on sale on 3/30 for the Soldier Field show in September,
but I haven't been able to track down any details.

After having listened to the CD maybe a dozen times or so, "Get On Your Boots" is actually working for me...I don't know if it's the sequence of the tracks on the album or what, but it doesn't have that same "meh" quality that it did when it first came out...

My favorite track would be "Magnificient"...something about the production of that song is enchanting to me...

As for "Unknown Caller"...

that will do Edge, that will do...

Exactly. $5 less than my Morrissey tickets for tomorrow in Milwaukee.

And they're GOOD seats as far as I can tell. We're gonna be on Edge's side of the stage - good angle.
And the stage is set up for no bad seats.
Might get some more on Monday for the Sunday show. We'll see.

Edited to Add -These are $30 face value tix. Just thought I'd throw TM an extra $30
out of the goodness of my heart. :x Doesn't matter. I'm there. :D

Actual conversation at work today...

Engineer: so, what's up with that bad board?
Me: oh, I think U2 is bad, so I'm going to replace it.
Engineer: you can't replace U2!
Me: why not?
Engineer: no one can replace U2...they're the greatest band ever.

I love my job.

It Goes like this for me:

Best Bassist of All Time on THREE : Geddy Lee

1-Achtung Baby
2-War
3-Joshua Tree
4-Pop
5-Live Under a Blood Red Sky/Wide Awake in America. (Not Actual Albums but awesome enough)

Pop is incredibly underrated and the Popmart (saw it at Soldier Field) was really good to as his voice wasn't completely destroyed yet. The current tour was good but Bono's voice just isn't really there anymore, plus they cut the opening to WTSHNN really short and put it at the end of the show which took/takes away a lot of its power. In my mind it is supposed to be the "kick off" to the second half of the show...at least that's what it was for Zoo TV through Vertigo.

The "New" Albums from 2000 and up are Ok mixed with really awesome songs. You could piece together a 11/10 album from the songs on each of them.
