Why the move to the rotation?

The Cubs are quickly arriving at a bit of a tipping point when it comes to Cashner. When they drafted him in the first round of the 2008 draft as the best college reliever in the country, they immediately went about developing him as a starter. It was the smart thing to do; unlike many closers, Cashner actually has a quality changeup, and with his dominating fastball/slider mix in front of it his value increased exponentially in the rotation. He's been one of the most dominant starters in the minors this year. Seven shutout innings on Saturday gives him a 0.95 ERA in three Triple-A starts, but that's not what the Cubs need. They need bullpen help, and Cashner is ready. Let's just hope it's a temporary fix so all of this really smart development doesn't go for naught.

After cruising through Double-A hitters in April, the 2008 first-round pick out of TCU made his Pacific Coast League debut Wednesday, and proved that the next level wasn't much of a challenge. Pitching in the notorious hitter's haven of Las Vegas makes his line all the more impressive. Cashner's amateur stardom came as a closer in college, and there are plenty of rumors that he's in line for an upcoming call to help out the big league club's bullpen. His long term future should be as a starter, so let's hope any such move is only a temporary one.

A first-round pick in 2008, Cashner rose to prominence as a closer in college. But his fastball/slider combination and surprisingly solid changeup had the Cubs wanting to see if he can start, and after stretching his arm out last year, the reins are off and the results are stunning. After two outings, opposing hitters are 5-for-37 with 20 strikeouts. The Cubs are getting ready to make an opening in their rotation for Ted Lilly (who pitched will at Triple-A last night), and by the end of the year, they might be doing the same for Cashner.

It looks like he will be called up after the cards series.

Maybe they will send Colvin down, so he can actually fucking get some at bats.

Dempster is the one they need to send to the pen. He has done it before and should be willing to take one for the team.
Grabow should be sent to the Chicago River and have feces dumped on him by Dave Matthew's bus.
This fucking whole organization is a goddamn disaster. They could fuck up a wet dream.
