Ok haven't posted in a while and haven't tuned into the net for chicago sports radio for a while (relocated out of towner), but did it today after the hawks game.

WSCR : ok didn't know who the guy was on there, but he totally sucked (drinky??). For the time i listened, he took one call. Maybe the point of the show was not to take calls, but if you do that, the guy on air seemed dead. such a big win to get into the finals and the energy the guy had was like they just lost.

AM1000 : exact opposite as WSCR. Hood and some other guy. LOTS of Energy! I maybe bias here but I always like J Hood. But liked the show, only remember a few calls, but at least these guys seemed to be celebrating the win.

Just my 2c.

ESPN 1000 let Hood do Hawks post game.

Good. It's nice to see that one sports station doesn't stereotype their people. Do you think Mitch considered Goff for Hawks post game? Hell no. He made him the NBA expert. I wonder why? How come Larry doesn't call out Mitch?

Keeping with this thread, George Offman was doing Hawks postgame on WGN 720. George is even more uppity over at 720. That's they way they want their hosts over there. I think George is in heaven. He doesn't have to deal with Bernstein and his gang ripping him over there. They don't do host on host attacks at WGN.

Hawaii, what is it like to live in paradise? It seems like it would be great for about a year and then become a bit of a strain because of the remoteness.

Because The SCORE no longer airs the Blackhawks' games, it's actually called "The Chicago Hockey Postgame Show". Matt Abbatacola had been hosting postgame coverage with Jay Zawaski, normally the executive producer of "The Danny Mac Show", but quite a Blackhawk guru. Jay and his wife Hope just gave birth to a baby girl, and has been absent from the last 2 postgame shows. In all likelihood, Drinky will continue to fly solo while Jay attends to more pressing matters as a father. Chances are, WSCR 670 will air "The Chicago Hockey Postgame Show" following Game 1 either Friday or Saturday night. According to 670thescore.com, Jason Goff's tentatively scheduled to work Friday night after the White Sox/Rays' game and "The JoeO & Rock Show" airs after baseball Saturday night. They're talking about starting the Finals Friday if the Flyers finish off the Canadiens tonight or possibly Saturday night if the Habs force a Game 6.

Oh man, I disagree with the initial post.

I find it very, very refreshing to turn on The Score and hear someone hearing hockey who doesn't --- take pride "in knowing nothing about it" but is "trying to learn" and then will proceed to lecture long-time fans about their takes OR someone constantly dropping hockey movie lines while self-glossing himself the "hockey guy of the station".

I really have no idea how deep drinky's waters run in hockey knowledge - but I think he does a fine job of recapping the game, taking calls, and not sounding like complete hockey boob, or know-it-all, while actually breaking down some things that the national announcers didn't touch on. His loud proclamations of "this series is over, sorry, but it is..." kind of wear me out (when I've tuned in and listened), but I really don't think ANYONE (including the self-proclaimed hockey guy of the station) would do a better job on the post game.

Nice job, matt, there is at least one listener out there that actually looks forward to your wrap up show.

 Wow!

This is the second time in a row that I've completely agreed with something Harry Seaward has said.

Sorry about that, Eaglo, perhaps I should state that the Blackhawks are the 5th best team in the city? Or that Tom Shaer was the best host, ever, on WSCR? ;)

(For the record, I do not think the Hawks are the 5th best team and I do not think that Tom Shaer was the best host on The Score (that title, obviously, goes to Joe Cain).)

Matty's truly out of his element on this show.
I would rather him do a postseason White Sox or Cubs show.
His lack of hockey knowledge limits his ability to string together cogent context. He hesitates often, struggling to find the exact words to illustrate his thoughts. It doesn't flow. I can't wait until Jay returns. Jay's understanding of the game gives him the confidence to explain it. I've always thought that Matt has dragged down the show.
I almost hate pointing this out because I truly enjoy Matty in his other radio endeavors.

You can't wait till Jay gets back because he has the knowledge to explain things confidently? Really?

I'm really not trying to come across as a drinky-fanboy, but there is no way you can possibly claim that he is choppy or hesitant or searching for the right term IN THE SAME BREATH that you claim that Jay is somehow smooth or confident. That's crazy talk.

Jay sounds like a knowledgable fan, to me. But he hardly comes close to sounding like a guy comfortable on the mic. My impression, before he left for paternity leave, was that HE was the one unsure and hesitating looking for terms or a way to explain something.

Again, I'm not saying that drinky comes across as some hockey genius who we are all lucky to hear post Hawks game...I'm saying that he does a nice job of HOSTING the show. And, I think anyway, that a post game host's primary job is to provide a solid recap, offer a few personal observations, and shuffle between excited/aggravated callers. In that, he does a very nice job. And while I think that Jay does a decent job, he of times sounds nervous and unsure. Certainly much more than drinky does, anyway.

Let's be honest. Mitch spent all the extra money on Steve Stone. He's not gonna spend extra on hockey people so he told drinky and Jay Z to do it for a hundred bucks a show. They're more than happy to do it.

Mitch will spend money on football and baseball experts. He's not gonna pay for basketball or hockey people so he makes producers the "experts".

I can't get quite as involved in your bizarre theories and thoughts, beardown, but I think that drinky is doing an admirable job of post game hockey talk host. When you consider that the bumbling Jesse Rogers was thrust into the role of hockey guy some years back, I'd say drinky is doing a great job.

I guess I just don't need some super hockey nerd host on my post game show. And, admittedly, I haven't tuned in the other local station's offerings....maybe I should, so I could hear how great everyone else is in comparison to the guy that is "in over his head"?

I know this will lead you into your 18,676th conspiracy theory....you know, the one where drinky does hockey cause he's white and surely Goff will do playoff NBA post game because he's black. Good luck with that.

This isn't a theory. The SCORE hires Steve Stone and Joe Cowley for baseball season. The SCORE hires like 5-10 writers and/or ex players for the NFL season. They don't hire anybody for basketball or hockey. They don't think it's worth it. This is just a fact.

David Shuester is the SCORE's main reproter covering hockey and baseball. The most memorable thing I've ever heard from him is "Golly gee Bernstein, that's a good question, I wish somebody would have asked it."

There's only one guy I know of that could do a pre, intermission, and post game show that revolved around hockey and his name is Art Regner. The last I heard, he was doing a pre and post game show on WXYT in Detroit. He used to be the big fish on the Fan (WDFN) in the mid to late 90's. It's funny how the Score and the Fan's golden era was roughly the same time. as far as I know..WDFN is no more. Art was a very boisterious host, a lot like Mike North, but had intelligent thoughts, unlike North. He also did a postgame show after Lions games which were appointment radio. I still can't believe he didn't have a grabber on air. Anyway, his hockey shows were pretty good and they could be done here if they found the right guy. Drinky was most decidedly out of his element. His John the Stutterer impression was pretty good! :P

Somebody needs to either buy you guys new radios or just melt your current ones. Seriously.

I am not suggesting that someone send these shows to the Radio HOF - but, geez, what do you want from the guy? I'll have to listen more closely for this stutter you're hearing on your imaginary radios, cause it's not coming through on mine. Then again, I listen sober so that might have something to do with it.

I am of the opinion, doing anything sober detracts from the overall experience.

I guess you must have missed early on in Sunday's show where Matt, not once, but twice said that Dave Bolland scored the final goal. While going through the highlights, he cut off the tape after the second-goal replay and talked about how Bolland scored the final goal to wrap up the game.

tuned in tonight after game 5, both post games really good.

The guy on the Score who totally sucked when I originally posted this is on fire tonight. Much better energy and he got into it with one of the callers. Maybe he was just having a bad night the time I listened to him. Much better post game tonight, some dull ass callers, and some good callers, but guy is going thru the callers like he should and good pace for the show.

am1000 it's all player interviews, so far no calls, but Hubner sounds great, VERY PROFESSIONAL! I am traveling alot to the mainland and try to tune into a lot of stations and got to say Hubes is one of the most Professional Sports Radio guys I've heard. He just sounds great on the show tonight. Sometimes it's nice to not have callers and just get the post game players comments right after the game. maybe calls can wait after that, but he is also doing a great analysis on the game tonight. Didnt know jesse rogers is on am1000. I didnt wait for him to get on and do his stint, maybe that was a good thing???

Good shows both stations.

BTW.... does the score or am1000 have any iphone apps so I can listen on my phone?
