I seem to remember a certain 20 strikeout game, in which there was a hit batter and a walk but was still apparently more dominant than a perfect game, in which there were about 12,000 people in the stands. And that was a year when the team made the playoffs.

That was a weekday game. Remember all of the full houses the Sox had for their weekday afternoon games? Those were crazy.......

And that was 1998. You said early '90's.

Another reason hockey sucks: The Vancouver Canucks have created one of the coolest logos around with this

Image

Yet the team and fans choose this inspiring drawing as their primary logo

Image

This really embodies much of what is wrong with hockey, it chooses to have no personality.

Lucky they didn't leave town then. They must have remembered that they were so popular.

I think these were worn by you if that was your view of things back then:

No. In the early 90s, the Sox were second to only MJ and the Bulls. Since, not so much. But you know, don't let facts get in the way of starting a Cubs Sox bitchfest. Something that yes I do, but not in this thread.

 Very nice, good sir! Thanks for takin' the bait! :D (Sorry, Ivan, but this will only take one post)

I guess that attendance figures are a nice indicator of fan interest (not sure another way to quantify said argument, but open for suggestions), and, while the Sox outdrew the Cubs by two years, your statement of the 1990s being owned by the Sox is completely false. Even when the Sox were in contention at the time, I wouldn't say that interest was "light years" ahead of the blundering Cubs:

Annual attendance

1990: Cubs -2,243,791 , Sox -2,002,357
1991: Cubs- 2,314,250 , Sox - 2,934,154
1992: Cubs - 2,126,720 , Sox - 2,681,156
1993: Cubs -2,653,763 , Sox - 2,581,091
1994: Cubs - 1,845,208 , Sox - 1,697,398
1995: Cubs - 1,918,265 , Sox - 1,609,773
1996: Cubs - 2,219,110 , Sox - 1,676,403
1997: Cubs - 2,190,308 , Sox -1,864,782
1998: Cubs - 2,623,194 , Sox -1,391,146
1999: Cubs - 2,813,854 , Sox -1,338,851

Sox got 2 good years of attendance until everyone realized their new ballpark sucked.

I'm done with this discussion. Dr. Ken just slammed the door shut.

Let's get back to talking about why Krazy Ivan sucks so much. You know, something Sox and Cub fans can both easily agree on.

Ivan is right.

I'm still waiting for some of the fans to explain this jimdandy of a rule to us all:
Quote:
What the fuck is icing? Apparently its against the rules to hit the puck all the way down the ice? Now thats a good rule.

Hockey also sucks because you can cut an opponent's throat without getting a penalty

Image

You can't get away with something like that in the thugiest of thug playing, tatoo wearing, corn row sporting leagues.

Well, why do they only let baseball players hit the ball forward within a 90-degree angle? They don't do that in cricket.
Why is there offsides in soccer? Why is a team forced to let the defense stay in between them and the goal?
Why does a defender have to wait for a receiver to touch the ball before tackling them in football? They know where the route is designed, if they were any good, they would beat the defender to the spot and catch it anyway.
Why is there such thing as goaltending in hoops? If the defense blocks the ball, they block it.
Why are sprinters required to stay in their lanes while running? If they want to run crooked, run crooked.

Yeah, and I'm waiting for you to retract your bullshit statement about the Sox being "light years" ahead of the Cubs at any time in the 1990s :eye: the answer to the icing penalty is that the act of icing takes away the offensive aspect of the game. If the defenseman just keeps on shooting the puck the entire length of the ice, then his offensive teammates aren't faced with the challenge of setting up a play in which to attempt a goal...

You have 8 guys or whatever skating around and if you hit the puck too far in a certain direction, its a penalty or a faceoff or whatever. Stupid rule and lot different than pass interference or goaltending. Then, the rule changes when there is a penalty and apparenty icing goes away. That makes sense!

There is no limit to how far you can hit a baseball or throw a football. Or how fast you can throw a baseball. Or a limit on length of a basketball shot. You can hit a baseball anywhere you want, sometimes its out of play. Kind of like how the puck can go out of play in hockey. Why not have NASCARs make right turns for once?

Regarding relative popularity, if you remember, every significant intersection throughout this city had a stand selling t shirts even a month after the fact for both the White Sox and Bulls championships...I haven't seen that with the Hawks.

No, they are correct. Physical limits on some of those maybe, but there are no rulebook limits on how far you can hit a baseball like there apparently is with regard to how far you can hit a hockey puck in certain situations.

Road course yes? I didn't know there were any right turn ovals. Besides, you can see by my domination in your contest that I am just a big of nascar fan as I am hockey fan.

Well, several times every baseball game, a ball is hit "foul" without being "out of play".
There are many restrictions on throwing a football, including distance, where it can be thrown from/to, etc.
NASCAR "turns right" on two tracks every year. Tune in on Father's Day to see one.

Icing is not a "penalty" anymore than a hitting a foul ball is. It just results in a faceoff, which I guess would be similar to throwing another pitch after a foul ball.
