I like the addition, and I think it has a decent (albeit still less than 50%) chance of pushing ND off the fence.

A source said Texas and Texas A&M remained steadfast in lobbying for the Big 12 to stay together.

Yeah, they must be trying really hard since the loss of one team already has them jumping ship.

There is no doubt that they could replace one team if they really wanted to. They just wouldn't get the possible $20 million a year that the Pac 10 expects.

They could easily replace them with TCU and stay intact couldn't they?

A guy on ESPN just reported about the move of Nebraska to the Big 10, and also that Texas Tech, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Colorado will jump to the Pac 10, all this will probably happen in 2012.

So the Big 10 will probably get Missouri too.

It's interesting to see in some of the reports that the Big Ten is actually more interested in Notre Dame, Rutgers, Maryland, and Syracuse. The final two would be a better traditional basketball move and would help spread the wealth a little in the football divisions since the they may be able to avoid putting Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame all in the same division.

Nebraska to the Big 10 seems normal, but those other teams going to the Pac 10 seems weird. Just raid the Mountain West and Wac and let the Big 12 reload and add TCU and SMU and UTEP and whoever else they want from down there.

The Syracuse hoops team just got smacked by the NCAA for academic reasons - don't see any circumstance where the Orange are extended an offer to join the Big 10.

I think Notre Dame and Rutgers are options 1 and 2 and with Mizzou as a distant third. Either way, they'll need to balance it between the East and West if they add two more teams.

This is a bad thing for college football, in my opinion. I understand that this all has to do with money, but if you think schools were tempted to partake in illegal recruiting techniques before, just wait.

Why will this change the temptation to illegally recruit? It has always been strong and will remain that way.

I agree, however the stress of finding kids to come to your school if you are a weaker University is sure to increase. If college sports is as big business as the experts make it out to be, then schools in the Big Ten like UW and UofI will need to think of something in order to get quality football players.

I'm not saying they WILL go down the illegal route, but the increased stress will be there.

why flood the conference with too many teams?

how can u win anything?

plus, nebraska is far from the sphere of big ten country...what sense does this make?

I think you just have to score more points than the other team.

Geography means nothing anymore. State College, PA is farther for more Big Ten teams than Lincoln, NE.

You need twelve to hold a conference championship. Those are the rules that the NCAA has imposed. It is worth tens of millions of dollars to a conference to be able to hold a championship game. Frankly, I'm surprised that the Big Ten hasn't been actively pursuing a team for years now.

The joke of the Big 12 is:

What Does the "N" stand for on their helmets?

"Nowledge".

Best article written yet about how things went down. It did seem to try and portray things in the best light possible but it does seem to give a good view on how things went down.
