While he has had some success in the past, Silva has never had the kind of success he is currently having with the Cubs. He is a high priced pitcher, signed for several years who is at the top of his game and most likely won't stay there. Instead of moving a guy like Gorzelany, I'd highly reccommend moving Silva.

i agree. hes better than he showed in seattle but hes not as good as hes shown as a cub. sell high and get something for him.

on another note. now that lou has said colvin is going to get more playing time what is going to happen with fukudome? he already had low trade value but now that hes gonna be sitting more often that basically makes him worth nothing. are they just gonna eat the money and let him collect dust until he can get out of town at the end of the season?

That is a great idea. I still question if they'd get anyone to bite given the contract, but that's something that Hendry should be looking to do over the next month.

I'm not even looking for much of anything in return other than the other team taking on the contract.

Fukudome will play some, but if Colvin is truly going to get more AB's, somebody has to sit. Soriano and Byrd have played reasonably well this season (offensively) and even though Fukudome isn't a bad player, he is way overpaid. I don't expect other teams to be trying to add him at that price tag. I do think that one of these guys (Colvin maybe?) could end up at 1B next season.

I don't think AL GMs are fooled right now, but give him a few good starts in interleague and they may be willing to pursue him.

The Mets came to my mind as being a big market and a team that I think would be looking for more starting pitching. The question then becomes can they find a comparable pitcher on a short deal?

Freddy Garcia comes immediately to mind. His ERA is not great, but upon closer inspection you can see but for two games the guy has been really good. Add in the fact that he is signed for a bargain basement price and has an expiring contract and he would seem to be more attractive.

Good example. The Cubs are probably stuck with Silva during the season because there will be guys like Garcia available. If Silva continues to pitch, for another month, at a high level, there's an outside chance of something happening, but I think there best opportunity would come in the off-season.

The Cardinals just snapped up Jeff Suppan. Now if that's not desparate, I don't know what is.
