Is it a safe bet to assume that Mike North will somehow have a drive time show on a new sports station?

BD, if it becomes a reality, North and Steve Dahl, dead air and all, might have slots on the proposed new FM sports talker...

A new sports radio station with North, Dahl, & Murph would be an immediate threat to WSCR & WMVP.
Regardless of what you may think of these guys, they all have name recognition & will attract listeners.

I'm not going to deny that a new station with the 3 listed above would cut into the ratings of SCR and MVPlease, it would be a certain demo that would go away, and I think it may lead to better quality on SCR, because the meatballs that Pappy and Murph fellatiate would not get on the air to get bitched out by the likes of Bernstein. While the act of Bernstein berating morons does get old, I think there is solid radio there that does not get on the air because of the massively stupid calling in with piss poor arguments.

While I agree that part of this is true, from what I remember, when ESPN was winning the ratings battle, it was done so with what I felt were less meatballish callers (Harry not withstanding). They were able to prove that intelligent (in a manner of speaking) sports conversation was possible and popular.

That said, I think that a 3rd sports station could succeed in this city-it's certainly big enough. The biggest problem that it may have is if it's on the FM band, it wouldn't have the signal reach that SCR and to a degree MVP have (I know MVP isn't as strong a signal as SCR).

If this were to be true, depending on the time of day, I would consider listening to Murph; he was the most meatbally of them all, but for some reason I enjoyed his show. Pappy on the other hand sucks. They couldn't pay me to listen to that asshole. In fact, I would rather shove a lit skewer into my ears than ever hear his voice come through my speakers again. His next rational thought will be his first one.

I don't know what the spot rates for Sox games are, but I have a tough time believing that the bean-counters are dancing in the streets over their Sox contract.

If Reinsdorf can use this threat of a third station to get the Score to keep paying anything for Sox rights, it's a victory.

I agree I would do something more akin to what WGN was planning on doing with Dan Mac in doing a mans' talk. Not 100% sports. I do miss Johnny B but why not Mancow ,he does killer ratings with guys, then do Dahl ,North. That would definatly hurt the other 2 stations.

As revolting as it is to think that north can escape the ashes of yet another failure and land a prime gig, I am intrigued by the potential meatball free calls on the score. B and B making fun of meatball every now and then is funny, but all day every day is way too much.
