Just as an FYI since everyone seems to be reporting that we can sign 2 MAX guys that's not the case.

Assuming a 56.1 million dollar cap, and the Bulls sign one max guy:
Max guy: $16,568,908
Luol Deng $11,345,000
Derrick Rose $5,546,160
Joakim Noah $3,128,536
James Johnson $1,713,600
Taj Gibson $1,117,680
Roster hold $473,604
Roster hold $473,604
Roster hold $473,604
Roster hold $473,604
Roster hold $473,604
Total $41,787,904

Remaining for final FA: $14,312,096

So they are about $2.2MM short.

They still have the MLE. And can't you re-sign players already under contract to go in the luxury tax? So if they re-up lets say Brad Miller, Acie Law, Hakim Warrick or whatever leftover garbage they have, they would be ok. Right?

No, you only get the MLE if you are over the cap.

Since they are going to renounce the rights to Miller, Law, etc to get under the cap, they can't go over the cap to sign them.

The luxury cap option is a 2011/12 issue when you have to resign Noah and Rose.

Sources: Bulls unloading Hinrich's salary

The Chicago Bulls have a deal in place that would move Kirk Hinrich and the 17th pick to the Washington Wizards, freeing up enough cap space to pursue two maximum-salary players on this summer's free-agent market, sources with knowledge of the Bulls' plans said Thursday.

It wasn't immediately clear what Washington would send to Chicago in the trade.

The deal can't be officially consummated until July 8, when the Wizards will have room under the salary cap to absorb Hinrich's $9 million contract without having to send back anything of similar value.

Since it's a good-faith deal for the time being, there remains a chance it could fall apart. But according to one source, the Sacramento Kings are prepared to make a similar deal with the Bulls in the Wizards' stead if that were to happen.

Either way, moving Hinrich and the pick would push Chicago's space under the cap from $20 million to more than $30 million. That puts the Bulls on equal footing with the Miami Heat in pursuing not just one but two members of a free-agent class that is expected to include LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Carlos Boozer, Amare Stoudemire and Joe Johnson.

Ric Bucher covers the NBA for ESPN The Magazine.

Easy
The heat could have 3
So, if Riley was able to trade Beasley for Gomes, he would have a pool of roughly $47 million to spend on free agents, including Wade.

And, if he could convince three top caliber free agents -- Wade, James and Chris Bosh, for example -- to sign for starting salaries in the range of $15.5 million ($1 million less than they are eligible to receive), he could fulfill his goal of putting together the three primary building blocks of the "dynasty" he spoke about at the conclusion of the Heat's '09-10 season.

lebron and bosh is exactly that paxson wants. its so obvious now its almost too hard to see. enough room for 2 max contracts and he already admitted that THIS is the bulls offseason of a lifetime. trust me, there is a DAMN GOOD chance those two will be bulls this summer. bosh, noah, lebron and rose would be better then perfect can get.... there is no limit on what you would do to get those two guys at this point....

Craziest thing about all of this is that they're apparently thinking of bringing back Chris Duhon? Wha? I had Chris Duhon ticket, and I don't want anymo Chris Duhon tickaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.

Although if all he will be doing is high fiving LeBron, Bosh, Rose, Noah and Deng as they come to the bench after a 20-0 run...I guess it's all good.

Duhon would be a great 2nd PG. He did a great job starting in NY. He just isn't a good shooter. You need to be a good shooter in that offense.

I really believe the Bulls will miss the leadership of Kirk Hinrich. Say what you will about the fact his jump shot disappeared but the guy gave it his all on the defensive end every game. He is easily one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA. If God would have blessed him with a couple more inches he would probably be an all star.

How, as a fan, can you possibly measure Kirk's leadership? What specific situations this season did you see Kirk's leadership prove valuable?

It shows in his play. The guys gather around him. They feed off of him. It's a fact that they were a better team with him in the starting lineup.

Interesting. So how many losses can you add to the record merely because "Kurt" is gone?

None if you have LeBron and Bosh. The thing is when Rose is struggling guarding a PG (like he will most of the season) you won't have a guy like Kirk to step in and take that burden off of him. LeBron can't guard PG's all season. This isn't me saying I want the Bulls to keep Kirk and pass on getting 2 full boat guys either. This is me just pointing out that Kirk was a valuable guy and will be missed.

I agree with you Nasova, that is why I was hopeful they were going to be able to move Deng and keep Hinrich. But I ain't going to complain as I am thrilled they were able to clear out more space!

Gotcha. I think the Bulls can still add a similar "veteran" presence with the exceptions... but they certainly won't be able to guard like Captain Kurt. Rose just has to get better, IMO. Hopefully Tom Thib can help him out.

 It's sad that it took me about a minute to get this.

Heinrich played to the absolute best of his ability - that's a credit to him, but really is the entire story, in that he didn't have the kind of ability of the guys that we're (hopefully) shipping him out in favor of...

while i agree with kirk being valuable they can easily go out and sign a guy for 1 or 2 mil that plays good defense. maybe not as good of a shooter as kirk but theres plenty of good defensive guards out there to help out rose
