Bulls Waive Kurz, Richard To Create More Cap Space

Jun 30, 2010 11:50 AM EST
The Chicago Bulls announced that the team has waived forwards Rob Kurz and Chris Richard.

Kurz (6-9, 230), 25, signed with the Bulls as a free agent on April 9, 2010. He did not make an appearance in a Bulls uniform during his time with the team.

Richard (6-9, 256), 25, played in 18 games last season with Chicago and averaged 2.1 ppg, 3.3 rpg and 12.4 mpg.

This is a problem for the Bulls. A BIG ONE:

Report: Bosh Going To Heat In Sign-And-Trade Deal?

"The Chris Bosh era in Toronto may be officially over.

ESPN's NBA contributor Dan LeBatard reports that the Raptors are poised to complete a sign-and-trade deal with Miami that would see Bosh go to the Heat for power forward Michael Beasley, point guard Mario Chalmers and forward Joel Anthony.

According to Lebatard's Twitter message on Wednesday, Bosh and fellow potential free agent Wade share the same agent so there's no tampering involved."

Actually this helps the Bulls cus if Bosh signs with Toronto and then is traded his cap number will be higher than 15million. Free agents can sign with their teams for something like 30 million more than a new team can offer. This really helps the Bulls.

And Chris Bosh for Beasley and 2 scrubs is kinda lopsided. Is baby Colangelo still running the Raptors?

Not sure that is accurate. They can sign for an extra year, but that doesn't affect the cap this year. Also, I believe this would fall under the "Bird exception," where his contract can then exceed the salary cap.

All Im saying is I doubt LBJ would go to a situation where Bosh is the highest paid player and he'd have to hear about Dwade being better than him all the time. Stupid alpha dog conflicts would arise. LBJ is a smart guy. I dont see him in a Heat Uni. I just dont see it.

It's a bizarre stipulation in the current CBA. Something that may be changed in the next couple years.

I'd say it is a sort of pageantry clause. It gives players the chance to decide right away, or review their options.

They can't officially sign until July 8th because that is when the new salary cap comes out.

Unless they were making more than $500k a year this doesn't make sense.

Thank you. I've been thinking this for a while and now It might be coming to fruition. LBJ to CHI, and Bosh to Miami? I'll take it. We each have room for one more "big" guy. But our worst fears may be playing out right now. LeBron goes to Miami for a "discount" and he reigns in all the endorsements. Like I said earlier, highly unlikely LeBron goes to Miami. Bulls will be fine as long as it plays out like this but I still expect Bosh to be a Bull.

Earlier on Wednesday, we noted that the Heat are going to be essentially unable to offer LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all max contracts.

But that doesn't mean two of the three won't wind up there next season.

And as free agency approaches, word that Bosh may land in Miami is growing.

Write Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel: "A long-time NBA agent representing several players on the upcoming free-agent market told the Sun Sentinel on Wednesday that he expects the Miami Heat to land Toronto Raptors power forward Chris Bosh during the impending NBA free agency period. Aware that Bosh is seeking the type of maximum contract that only would be available through a sign-and-trade agreement, the agent said Toronto could be in a position where it recognizes it has to take pennies on the dollar in such a transaction."

ESPN TV commentator and Miami Herald columnist Dan LeBartard adds this on Twitter on Wednesday: "I hear Bosh-Miami is done. Bosh-Wade shared agent avoids tampering. It's why Michael Beasley, Mario Chalmers and Joel Anthony [are] still [in Miami]. Raptors get them."

For Bosh, it would be a win. By first signing with the Raptors, he'd make the most money possible in a max deal. If he signs outright with another team to a max deal, he'd make less. He'll get to pair with Wade, and they'll still have some money in which to fill out the roster.

Of course, we'll caution that this is not a done deal and things can change. And it's still possible James could join, but it seems unlikely he'd be willing to be the guy getting the short end of the stick as far as a contract is concerned.

But considering Bosh has long been known to likely be leaving Toronto in a sign-and-trade, is friends with Wade and shares an agent with him as well, the dots are certainly there to connect.

If that is true, that gives me more hope LBJ is coming here

He CLEARLY is not going to play 3rd fiddle (salary wise) ...i just don't believe it

let them have Wade and Bosh...if we get Lebron and _________, i'll be happy

This seems like a pretty good point here that I have not heard others making. Would James go to the Heat with Wade and Bosh and be the low man as far as $$$. Seems unlikely to me.

If this is true, who would be the best match? Dirk? Boozer? Amare? JJ?

I don't think we can afford Dirk unless he took less than a max. He'd be my pref.

Right, I just said that and i agree. Even if in reality it means nothing (factoring in endorsements and such) it's still an ego thing and I can't believe LBJ is going to take a backseat to Bosh and Wade

This is my opinion as well. Put Boozer in the blank and I am ok, maybe even have a
little money left over to get another piece to the puzzle.

Where does Deng go? To Utah in a sign and trade for Boozer? Would you trade Deng for Boozer? Wouldn't the Bulls title window get shorter by bringing in 30 year old players? I do not want to see Joe Johnson in a Bulls uniform unless it's for Kirk Hinrich money.

who cares about Deng? bring him off the bench if you have to
what do you have against Joe Johnson? i'm not just defending him b/c i'm a hawks fan....he's exactly what they need. a deadly outside shooter. he had to handle the ball too much in atlanta but if Rose is creating for him he'd be deadly.
And if Rose and LBJ are your main 2, your title window is wide open. doesn't matter who the ancillary players are...they might might change but you'll always be in contention with those 2

He isn't a deadly shooter. Deng shoots the ball better than he does and he is younger and he is a willing defender and rebounds better and he is cheaper. Johnson is an isolation guy too. That kills an up tempo offense the Bulls would likely run with James and Rose. My biggest beef with him is that he is 30. That means he has about another 3 good years left in him. He has already peaked. That happens around 27 and 28.

If Miami wants to do a sign and trade, why not try and do it with the Cavs? Why make your big first move a sign and trade for Bosh?

first of all it's taken me over an hour to make this post. and it hasn't been posted yet so i'm sure when i go to do so it will fail. so fuck all taht

To the argument. First, Deng doesn't not shoot the ball better. They are relative equals, JJ being much better from the FT line. However the difference is that JJ is the main option and thus often double and triple teamed so a lot of this shots are under duress. Deng's shots are mostly wide open. While I agree with you they (the Hawks) iso'ed joe WAY too much, the fact remains that they were an uptempo team. Guessing you never saw a game of theirs but Smith and Horford push the ball a lot. While they did not win a title they were a successful team. So don't tell me that JJ can't play in an uptemp offense because he did. And lastly, age....30 is not some ancient age. If they had Rose, LBJ and JJ they could hide JJ's defiencies as he grew older. Allen, Pierce and garnett aren't exactly spring chickens and they've been title contenders.

also in regard to percentages keep in mind the following

FG's: JJ shot 1386 to Deng's 1014
3PT: JJ shot 350 to Deng's 83

so while percentages may be similar it Johnson shot WAY more which of course is going to lower your percentage.
