First after we all commence dancing in the streets in our underwear to celebrate what do you guys prefer?

I vote for Trammel and give him a chance to keep it after this season depending on what happens.

IMO, it has to be Trammel just to finish out the season. All they have to do is look at how Denis Savard crashed and burned as the Hawks coach to see what happens when you promote a legacy before he really is ready. If Sandberg is the next guy in, it is wise to let him stay in Iowa, because there is a real chance that more than a few of the guys there could be in Chicago next year.

Ryno has paid his dues and deserves the job. It will likely be a rebuilding operation anyway. If only the Cubs would have decided to rebuild last year they could have gotten some value for some of the guys they are likely to trade away.

He has certainly not paid his dues. He's been a minor league manager. No MLB coaching experience at all. Put him in as a bench coach or 3rd base coach (preferrably a bench coach) top an established tenured manager for 4 years and then he's "paid his dues".

They wanted him to manage before giving him a job. He has done that at every level and had success. The Cubs will likely field a young team next year and IMO Ryno would be perfect for the job. They could put him on the bench a few years ago if they cared about that. It's a good thing he wasn't near the Rothschild or the 60 win man from Detroit.

Because he isn't ready until he pays his dues. It is another way of saying job experience. Lets say someone is a manager at a local McDonalds. Doesn't mean he'd be able to be a manager of a Fortune 500 company's corporate office.

The difference between managing some minor league clubs and a major league club would be huge, just like the above example.

I guess we just have different definitions of paying dues...

...to me it implies that he is only getting the job because he's gone through the motions and been there for so long that now is "his time", so to speak...when someone is hired because they paid their dues, I'm not expecting too much out of them...now, if someone is hired because they were the best person for the job, now we are talking...

He wanted to be a big league manager and they told him what he needed to do. With an opening coming next season and a likely rebuilding plan it is the perfect time IMO to give him the job. Obviously you put a experienced bench coach around him.

It's not as big of a difference as managing McDonalds for $10 an hour and being in a leadership position at a fortune 500 company. Ryno played in the league so I'm guessing he knows what it takes to be a big league player and how they should conduct themselves. He just had to learn the nuances of managing compared to playing. I believe he has done that. There are many AAA players that played in the big leagues too. With a good bench coach it shouldn't be a tough adjustment. IMO he was better served managing than being a 1st base coach.

He has the fire and the passion. He has been known to go Lou on minor league umps.

Sandberg is a different person now than when he played. He is much more media savvy now. Look up Ryno's hall of fame speech on You tube. I have seen him manage a few games in the minors & I didn't notice any glaring mistakes. The Managerial skills needed to manage a game are the same at any level. What is different is the millionaire players. He has won at every level in the minors. Believe it or not he can be tough on his players, but they love him. I hope Ryno is the Cubs Manager when they win the World Series.

Managing a bunch of guys who are trying like hell to get onto a MLB roster is much fucking different from managing a bunch of entitled whiny ballplayers who have cushy 5 year contracts paying tens of millions of dollars (up to the age of retirement) whether they play well or not.
