Lot of things going out of business and I saw a list and some of these names kind of surprised me. Hollywood Video and Blockbuster don't.

Home Depot
Dollar Store
Fuddruckers
Men's Wearhouse
Anne Taylor
Kenneth Cole

were some of the names I read in an article from AOLNews. I think MW was mentioned because of the layoffs they've had, so I guess they're still in business but just going through rough times?

I remember getting a really swank Kenneth Cole sweater about 9 years ago. My last birthday gift to my sister was a gift certificate to Anne Taylor. Dollar Stores just seem to be a part of every strip mall. Home Depot...wtf? And Fuddruckers...never really a big fan but I did have a nice experience one night for a birthday party in '92. I did like building my own burger but I remember they weren't all that great. I liked the buttered buns though.

Neither is The Home Depot.

Read your own posts more carefully. Closing stores & going out of business are 2 completely different things. For the record, The Home Depot will close 3 under performing stores in 2010, not 15.

one can lead to the other.

home depot was mentioned in the article i had been reading possibly because of the stores shutting down...it's not a good sign.

what do you have stock in them or something? the names i listed in the subject header i was sure i read were either out of business or about to be. the ones i listed in the post were other names i wasn't so sure about but they were included in the list that i had been reading, and they stuck out for me.

Yeah, it still pretty much says all those places, other than Men's Warehouse, are going out of business...

The Home Depot where I used to live was great as long as you knew what you wanted and where it was located...if you needed any help, you were at the mercy of a bunch of people who either had no clue what they were doing and/or didn't give a shit...

i tried looking for what i read on AOL but those crafty bastards leave no record of it. perhaps the HD thing was in the same vein of men's wearhouse because of the recent layoffs (the 3 shut down stores in 2010, 1,000 layoffs) and it was more speculative than factual.

i was speaking specifically of wearhouse in regards to CLH's post.

i had a feeling i'd get called out for listing some of those names. but what the fuck ever.

My company is VERY heavily engaged in Home Depot and their sales are through the roof right this quarter. They continually monitor the performance of thier stores and close ones where they cannot make a profit.

They are NOT even close to going out of business.

Every large retailer closes a few under performing stores each year. The Home Depot has 2200 stores & will close 3 this year. They're in good shape.

Fuddruckers went bankrupt and closed a bunch of places, but somebody bought the company and there's still a few open.

Only the corporate owned stores closed. The franchisees are still open.

Fuddrucker's Inc was just purchased by Luby's Inc. (for you Texas caferteria afficiandos) who intends to rebuild the brand.

So of a list of nine stores that the post claims are closing there is actually only one on the list that is actually closing?

Dammit, I passed by my bank last night around 9 and there was a sign in the window that said it was closed. I hope they didn't go out of business, they have all my money!!

Is the Vinny Del Negro mult still around? I think he'd have something to say about all this.

The Home Depot at 56 and 355 was supposed to be one of the stores shutting down. To my knowledge it's still open.

Hollywood Videos have been shutting down quickly over the past few years, and Blockbuster is now following suit.

I rented a movie up in Michigan from a RedBox type kiosk from Blockbuster Express. MFers charged me TAX. WTF is that all about? Is that a Michigan thing, or exclusive to Blockbuster, as I've never paid tax for RedBox ever.

Home Depot is like Starbucks on the northwest side. They've got North & Elston, Logan & Elston, and Addison & Kimball.

Ummm, I'm pretty sure tax is a government thing...

Home Depot is a fine example of retailing and ripoffs.

HD wants the paint they sell to be the same, or less than any other place, menards, lowes, etc. but they charge you 2-3 times more for the brushes, tape, plastic, rags, etc.

When I see a contractor rolling through HD with a bucket ($4.99 at HD and $1.99 at menards), sponges, ect etc, I am also certain this guy is a hack! It can cost you $100's more on the little crap at HD v Menards. Obviousely, sometimes, you have no choice, but I avoid the place if I can.

Tiles are the lowest quality you can find, Lumber is higher than menards, delivery sucks!, but they do have better pro grade tools than Menards and HILTI products.

with all the money he's winning, FA could probably just buy out the franchise.
