Barry Rozner talked to Ricketts and he gave Jim Hendry a vote of confidence. Is it really possible that Jim Hendry is the Cubs GM next year? If so, I may not watch a Cub game ever again.

Isn't a vote of confidence generally precede the ax coming down (relatively) soon thereafter?

Donald, from your mouth to Shingle's ears. However, I am not going to hold my breath, as I only turn blue when I do.

Unless Ricketts decides to open his check book, there is no flexibility to add much of anything in free agency. If there's a baseball executive out there who is able to find another team to take on some of these bad contracts, that guy should be hired. Actually, Hendry did pretty well in that regard, moving Milton Bradley for Carlos Silva (there's another guy that they should sell while thing's are going well although I still think most teams would be extremely hesitant to take on his contract).

It seems to be a long-shot that Lee and Lilly are back next season, and that opens up something close to $25 million, but how much more do Soriano, Fukudome, Ramirez (who I believe has a players option to return), Dempster and Zambrano make next season over this season? I'm not sure if there salaries stay where they are now or we see each add on an additional 1-2 million. Even if the Cubs do free up $20 million with Lee and Dempster leaving, will that free money be put back into the team for next season? I don't know that we'll have answer to that until next season.

Let's just put in terms that the pith helmet wearing Shingles can understand. Hendry has screwed the fucking hyena and there's nothing that he or Safari Tom can do about it.
That is, unless Tommy Boy is willing to fricassee and eat the bad contracts Hendry is responsible for.
Otherwise, as Cub fans, we're all fucked for the foreseeable future; meaning the next three years or so...

Let's hope you're right. There have been plenty of high profile votes of confidence that have ended in axings.

I think a shrewd GM can use that $25M wisely. Plus maybe find a home for the Fuke without eating everything. We'll see. I'm hoping Ricketts at least takes a look at Kevin Towers, Paul DePodesta, Josh Byrnes, Rick Hahn, Ben Cherington, Kim Ng at the least. Don't know much about Randy Bush but being schooled by Hendry is a big negative.

the other negative is that some of their bad contracts (soriano) are backloaded...so they will increase as the contract matures. Just so sad. I'm amazed that a GM can have such glaring mistakes all over the board, and keep his job. It's disgusting.

One of the dumbest things my Dad ever did was buy a Pinto in 1973. What a piece of shit that thing was. He bought a yellow fucking Pinto for Christ's sake. It's tough to take your Dad seriously after that.

Rozner article on Sandberg. Bascially just Sandberg saying he's ready to manage. No hard questions, nothing. What kind of manager will he be? Does he embrace on base percentage or is he a swing away guy like he was as a player? But, THANK GOD, Oneri Fleita has given Sandberg his stamp of approval. This from the same talent evaluator that thought Rich Hill, Corey Patterson, and Felix Pie were the future stars of the organization.

If you keep Hendry and just throw Sandberg in there as manager, let me be the first to say that this is a major disaster waiting to happen. Hendry will add a couple minor pieces this offseason and declare it a success, the Cubs won't be able to hit again next year, and Sandberg will blow a gasket and start screaming at everyone. Ricketts needs to grow a pair, step up, and fire Hendry's ass.

Couldn't agree more. Any chance Rozner is actually a Cubs employee like Bruce Levine-line? Seriously, the guy is like a positive PR machine for Cubs management.

I dunno. Too bad she's not a half-Japanese lesbian who's tired of sex, because then she'd attain a Pinkerton trifecta, guaranteeing she could never run my favorite team.
