So, this is the worst Cub team since last year. When, I also expected nothing out of them and they did not disappoint.

this team was built to fail this year, but i am ok with it as long as it is totally blown up by spring training. i looked at this year as a bridge to reconstruction next year, and was glad they didnt spend any more money on big contracts this year. lou and hendry are gone after this year, and next year they can start fresh. the team made a big mistake holding on to some guys too long so they have no value now, which is a shame, but i am very excited about spring training next year if they can dump the dead weight they have been carrying and start fresh with YOUNG new faces.

Somehow I figure your excitement will quickly end as you see how bad next years (young) team sucks too.

i don't think you gotta go back that far. 2005 was a very bad team, and it was coming off of one of the most disappointing seasons i can remember as a cubs fan.

in case you need reminding, jerOmy burnitz was batting clean up for us.

They lost 96 games four years ago.

you would figure wrong. i have been calling for this team to be blown up since they were eliminated last year, and all that has been done has been prolonging the agony and losing more and more value on any trade bait they may have had. i would welcome and support heartily a massive youth movement and the growing pains that go with it with open arms. i would find it much easier to support "youth movement" suckage than "maybe next year" free agent suckage, as long as there is a clear path that is being taken to improve the team for the long run. i am most certainly NOT in favor of pittsburgh pirates perennial suckage simply due to being cheap.

I'm not a proponent of the fire sale especially for big market teams but this is an unmitigated disaster and needs to be blowed up ASAP. Hendry has failed miserably and the Cubs need to order him to trade anything that's not nailed down and clear as much payroll as possible so the next GM at least has a fighting chance.

Anyone that expected THIS team to contend, was sorely mistaken and doesn't know Baseball. Now it's time to unload Lee and Lilly and if possible Silva too (if possible), to cut payroll and stock the minor leagues. They need to build with youth and let guys like Cashner start and after next season when they can get Ramirez (club option for 2012 will be refused) and Fukadome off the books and THEN hope to put a team together. By that time, perhaps Josh Vitters will have gotten to the point where he is ready to contribute at the major league level and take over at 3rd. But unless they decide to go crazy and spend on guys like Cliff Lee and Prince Fielder this winter, it makes more sense to build with the kids and see how well they can do. I expected nothing this season and next year is not looking all that promising either. 2012-that may look a whole lot better...
