Once again he gets picked off. He really can't run the bases. I'm starting to think he is the Cubs version of Pods.

Fourth pickoff. And there's been at least 3-4 instances of getting caught trying to turn doubles into triples or singles into doubles. Not the best baserunner.

Also being caught at 3rd on a groundball to the left side, has become one of his habits.

What about bad, comma placement?

If I could change the lineup in anyway, it would be to move him out for Colvin (by moving him to left and putting Fonzi at 2nd.)

I used to think he didnt get his props from everyone, that he was a solid middle infielder with an underrated bat. This is one case where the critics were right, he's not a very heady player and his offense / defense really arent very good after all. Trade him to Boston while Pedroia is still hurt, maybe they'll get at least a middling prospect in return. Theriot will not be your second baseman anyway by the time the Cubs are viable again, maybe some team will overpay fo him now.

Excellent word usage. Middling is very underused and underrated, as well as being quite a fun word. Kinda like smallish in that regard.

Yeah, Theriot... I really like him but yes the bloom might be coming off that rose. A savvy GM might have had the foresight to trade him a year ago when his average had been flirting with .300 for a few years running. Not sure what value he has now.

Along those same lines, imagine what a Lilly trade would have gotten for you 12 months ago. Hell even the Pocket Rocket might have fetched you something back when some other team might have fantasized about playing him every day instead of the Cubs.

Ah well, the lovable losers...

and for all that overly agressive baserunning the guy is a statue at second base on a single with no outs in the ninth and on a fly ball to the outfield while at third base with one out in the ninth of a 7-0 game...did I mention the over was 7.5. That's the kind of shit that gets a guy kneecapped.

Theriot is hilariously overpaid for what he brings to the table. He has regressed to the very definition of a replacement level player. His glove is average, his arm is below average, his base-running is embarrassing, he's oblivious to the situation and how to work a count to his advantage as evidenced by the amount of first pitch weak ground balls to short he's hit etc. You could go on and on

If there is any perception around the league that this guy is decent, move him for whatever you can get. You can find plenty of players like Theriot for much less than he's going to want in the years to come.

how is he overpaid, he is only a 4th year player...i cant imagine him making more then $4 million right now, and he is definitely worth that

I love Theriot, positive attitude and he plays hard and he is homegrown...I guy I can identify with, as a Cubs fan

if he went to Boston he would definitely be as good as Pedroia...to me Theriot is a winner who will someday wear a Red Sox or Yankee uniform or both

You must be called 'whistler' because there is a wind tunnel between your ears.

True. Cubs should have given hee seop choi another couple seasons instead of Lee's most productive years too.

I for one thought they gave up on Brooks Kieschnick way too early.

Let's see his WAR is 0.0, his UZR at 2nd is -3.2, he's hitting .278 (with a high BABIP of .317). Plus, the eye test. He's not good. It seems you have a dream of home grown grindy type players to fill your roster. If this team had 25 Ryan Theriot's we would have won maybe 15 games this year.

no...i never liked Choi...would have rather had Lee

what bothered me about Choi was exactly what Mark Grace said...they got rid of Grace, who won a title the next year, and the excuse was they planned on bringing Choi up later in 2001 ( he had never had an AB in the Big Leagues yet)...and it turns out, they never cared for Choi...another one of McFail's lies
