Silva should be the pitcher you are trying to unload. He has a big contract with more years and is pitching at the absolute top of his career right now. I find it completely odd that everyone is focused on losing Lilly, and that may be viable as well, but the person you should be shopping hard is Silva.

Agreed. Although I think the discussion has centered around moving Lilly first in the hopes that he would bring us back greater value.

The only reason people are focusing on Lilly is that he is a free agent at the end of the year. Silva has another year at $11.5M and then a mutual option in 2012 (which of course will not be picked up). Who the hell is going to pay even half of that salary to a servicable 5th starter at best? By comparison, Freddie Garcia is making $1M. That is usually what you pay your 5th starter.

Lilly is more marketable because of the fact his contract expires after this year and I think alot of teams are savvy to the fact that Silva is due for a decline. I would be more than happy to move both of them as soon as possible however.

Once again you are not taking into account that the people running the Cubs are complete and total assclowns.

I also think that teams are going to be a little leery of rolling the dice on Silva, as I'm sure it's somewhat common knowledge around the league that he's putting up career numbers and therefore is inevitably due for one hell of a letdown. That is quite a contract to consider taking on, after all. I am somewhat confident, however, that there will be a club that gets desperate enough for an arm at some point...

Unfortunately, I take that into account every second of every day.

Did you guys hear Len Kasper on he Mac show today? Lou's doing a great job. The team is just not playing well. Hendry put together a good team, it's not his fault. Did Len get too much gas at the dentist today? Flossing too much with Brenly's mustache hair? Talk about a fucking company man!

What do you expect Len to say though honestly? He has one of the best play by play jobs in baseball and I am sure he does not want to screw that up with the new administration with the Cubs.

Doesn't stop Brenly. Maybe he doesn't give a shit about keeping his job and Len does, I don't know.

Brenly can always find a job in baseball on a bench somewhere doing what Alan Trammel does. I find Brenly's honesty on the Cubs situation refreshing but I think he is in a different position from Len and I do not expect it from my broadcasters. I think Len is a solid but not spectacular play by play guy and after living through Chip Carey I enjoy his understated broadcasts. For what its worth I think Pat Hughes is an exceptional play by play guy and I never hear him take shots at the Cub.

I don't know if you heard the interview, but he could have said something neutral and it would have been fine. He said Lou is doing a GREAT job which makes me believe that he really thinks that. Now, if you actually watch games, it doesn't take a genius to see that Lou has quit, plain and simple. It's a joke.

Fair enough. I did not hear the interview. You are gonna get no disagreements from me that the team has quit on Lou and that Lou could give a crap about this season and is just waiting to be on Sandy Acres. So while I think the Cubs suck if they were paying me I might publically tell you something very different than what I really think.

right

and I think len is genuinely a nice guy too...not the type to rile stuff up or burn bridges

Brenly, being a former player and manager, has a little more of the potty-mouth in him, and that's OK too

but if they don't trade Lilly, they can offer him arbitration and get picks in return when he refuses

Silva would simply be a salary dump and there will be enough teams in need to take him on. He had some very solid years in Minnesota and the Twins wanted to resign him before the Mariners went crazy. Now, with the years reduced and some of the pay eaten by the M's (and a little more by the Cubs) maybe they would like to bring back the known commodity.

I'd take Silva before I'd take Zambrano as a Sox fan.

This really pisses me off. First off, who conducted this interview? Sports radio in chicago today has become this "good ol' boy" shit where these guests & experts come on, spew shit, and NO ONE EVER calls them out on it. I hate what Mike North THOUGHT he had become...and I hate what he turned into....but in the early days of the score, he made a name for himself by not accepting these pattented, almost scripted answers. I like Len as announcer, but he has company cock so far down his throat on this it isn't funny. If Hendry and Lou (louppie) were fired today,...no one would say that it isn't justified or warranted. Lou with his "what are you gonna do" leadership...and his "what kind of baseball do you play?" attitude deserves to go. BUNT YOU FUCKER!! That is baseball....don't sit on your hands and wait for your 3rd & 4th place hitters batting 160 & 200 to hit a three run homer. As a matter of fact...move that STIFF Lee out of the third hole...THAT'S WHAT I'M GONNA DO. Hendry has built this flawed team and hamstrung them for years with SHIT contracts.

Chicago reporters are SOFT! Big ol' PUSSIES and that includes EVERY radio host in town.

Len is sucking team dick on this one big time and no one should let him get away with. GREAT my ass!

I feel better now. :eye:

Len is like every other hometown play by play guy in baseball...a company guy...why should chicago be different (serious question to u)?

and u would have lee and ramirez bunt? the cubs would probably be worse off...those guys never practiced a bunt in their lives cuz they never needed to bunt....that's ur solution?
