He Gone.

In other news, God is in negotiations with the Yankees on a 10 year/500mill dollar deal with a player option for the 11th.

As a Red Sox fan I hate the Yankees. I mean I REALLY HATE the Yankees. But I have to say I admired Big George. The guy spent money shamelessly and never apologized for it. And he won. Big Boy rules in MLB. You wanna win you play with the Big Dogs. RIP George.

I always thought that evil would live forever.

Quote:
Cushman: I gotta tell you, you are the complete opposite of every applicant we've seen. Mr. Steinbrenner, sir. There's someone here I'd like you to meet. This is Mr. Costanza. He is one of the applicants.
George Steinbrenner: Nice to meet you.
George Costanza: Well, I wish I could say the same, but I must say, with all due respect, I find it very hard to see the logic behind some of the moves you have made with this fine organization. In the past twenty years, you have caused myself, and the city of New York, a good deal of distress as we have watched you take our beloved Yankees and reduced them to a laughing stock, all for the glorification of your massive ego.
George Steinbrenner: Hire this man!

If we're keeping the Yankee theme, I'd have to guess Yogi Berra

Estelle (crying): I can't believe it, he was so young. How could this
have happened?

Steinbrenner: Well, he'd been logging some pretty heavy hours, first
one in in the morning, last one to leave at night. That kid was a human
dynamo.

Estelle: Are you sure you're talking about George?

Steinbrenner: You are Mr. and Mrs. Costanza?

Frank (yelling): What the hell did you trade Jay Buhner for?!? He had
30 home runs, over 100 RBIs last year, he's got a rocket for an arm, you
don't know what the hell you're doin'!!

Steinbrenner: Well, Buener was a good prospect, no question about it.
But my baseball people love Ken Phelps' bat. They kept saying 'Ken
Phelps , Ken Phelps'.

What's his legacy to baseball?

Think history will see him as an owner who would do anything to win or someone who drove up players salaries to such ridiculous levels that it effectively eliminated half the competition on a yearly basis.

Probably a little of both. Definitely not a Yankees fan, but as a whole I think he was more positive than negative for the game

I hated Steinbrenner because he "bought" world series titles. I wish he would have owned the Cubs! :)

I wonder if li'l danny bernstein is going to repeatedly scream about how the man was a convicted felon and how anyone who says anything good about him needs to "be real".

From the minute he bought the Yankees from CBS Corp. in 1973 for $10 million, George Steinbrenner never settled for anything other than winning the World Series every year he called the shots in the Bronx. If it meant hiring & firing another late Yankee great, Billy Martin, on 5 occasions, he did it. If it meant signing a big name free agent such as Dave Winfield, now with ESPN, he did that, too. Steinbrenner seemed to set a very high standard and anything other than a World Series title every year would be a failure. Like or loathe the Yankees, Steinbrenner was the kind of larger than life personality who never settled for less and wanted to be the best. To a certain extent, I wish our local teams had the kind of winning standard George had for his team. I think the Yankees are not just the crown jewel of Bud Selig's Major League Baseball, but I've got to think they're a $1 billion franchise in value alone.
