Bernsie is a clown, hates himself, wishes he would have gone to law school or med school or gotten his CPA or whatever... Bernsie, jewish kids from the north shore don't get to be the most trusted name in television journalism. They do however get to become embittered "know it all" mean spirited sports talk hosts, who work on sports radio but talk about how much they hate sports, rip on whites, rednecks and any white majority that will not stand up for itself. Id like him to say some of the North type stuff on minorities (not that I liked North, but that boor was one controversial radio personality)... He tried to do the DePaul play by play thing and go the play by play route in his quest for leaving the score, but his ability to piss off the Catholics in a primarily Catholic city trashed any hope of that.... He's really just a sad person, it must take a great deal of energy to be that unhappy with yourself.
So... Bernstein isn't white? Chicago is ruled by Catholics and cares deeply about DePaul hoops, to the point that it matters what a radio PBP guy says about its priests? Bernsie has a quest to leave the Score? Journalism is only for working class Gentiles? You know him personally and can gauge his level of satisfaction with his life and career choices? He hates sports?
You can't prove any of these things, and therefore, you probably don't need a helmet on your bike ride.
wow, I must have done a pretty crappy job of making my point there.
Bernstein was the play by play guy for DePaul hoops, DePaul fired him in a pretty public rebuke due to the content he was saying on his show regarding the scandal that plagues the Catholic church; true of not, BS or not, his comments made him box office poision for any other job in a play by play capability. If you want to debate the role of the Catholic church, even post scandal, as a force to be reckoned with in Chicago media Ill tell you this, it isnt what is used to be, but its pretty damn powerful. The point wasnt the scary power of DePaul hoops as a ratings magnet, but if you screw up the little job, there is no way you'll get the bigger job in Chicagoland media, especially if the controversy you create has to do with pissing the Catholics off.
little Danny Bernstien while in the booth with Harry on the Cubs broadcast lo these years ago talked about "when I grow up, I want to be a newscaster." My point, even though I didnt particularly do a good job of making it apparently was that people that look like him do not get jobs as big time news anchors. The statement was more a blanket statement on what producers look for when casting a news broadcast, sure Baichwal, Linda Yu and others consistently have broken the mold on a local level as to what demographic type gets to read the news to you on a daily basis. I dont see too many jewish people doing the ABC news was the point that I was trying to make. It is a statement of the nature of what is cast for a newscaster. My point is that he is not of a demographic that is cast for hard news. Sure, Im probably wrong, WASPs arent anchormen any more, I dont think so.
I am opining on Bernsies attempt to go for something better, something bigger, which I do not think he is going to get. I dont know him personally, Im doing some armchair analysis here. On todays show, he sure sounded like some guy who hates sports. The only reason Im listening to him now is because carm, jurko and harry is a trainwreck. The B&B show is pretty heavy on the negativity, if you think it is sunshine and lollipops, fine by me pal. I dont know him and could care less about knowing him, I was engaging in what this board is all about; in what sports talk radio is all about, making an opinion, firm or not, solild or not, backed by nothing but conjecture and talking shit about it.
so that was my point, and thanks for the comment on me not wearing my bike helmet, in borrowing from the Dan McNeil thread post a date and time for us to meet and ill kick your ass pal!!!!!
