And Chas, U2 played Park West, not UIC Pavilion, on the October tour.
Are you thinking of The Unforgettable Fire tour? March 21st and 22nd, 1985?

This was the amphitheater not the pavilion very small space. I was at the Park west. This was before the Park west around 1982-83 I was a freshman in high school. This show was a private show for U2 fan club members only.

Still not sure which show you're referring to. Can you find it on this list?

On XRT now. Great tune that I always enjoy, but for me it is a more melancholy song. It reminds me of the old man and the limited time I have with him. My dreams are not as vivid as Good Dolphin's, so I have no idea why this is the case.

It is not on there , It was a special show for U2 fan club members. All I remember from the show was that it was before the Pavilion was opened. I remember I was a Freshman and I know it was not the Brawlroom it was at UIC.

Must have been quite special if a U2 fanclub member like yourself can't tell us where or when it happened.
The site I gave, u2gigs.com, is THE last word on where, what, and when they played.
Your special fanclub show isn't listed.
Feel free to post a pic of a ticket stub or any other evidence, otherwise I call shenanigans.

For the first time in my history on this board.....I will agree with chas. U2 was a far better band when they had enough "rough edges" to hide the fact that 50% of the members of the band are low-talent hacks that hold back the other two.

I can't back him on where/when he claims to have seen them live, but U2 was way better before they became multi-platinum selling, arena rock, laser shows set to music.

My first ever concert was the Popmart Tour in 1998...it was great. I saw Elevation, and that was a cool set too, but it pailed in comparison. The lasers, giant lemon, etc was terribly self indulgent but it worked for them to a T.

I have no interest in seeing U2 now. Pop and Achtung Baby are a couple of my favorite albums ever though.

Low Talent hacks?

Clayton maybe. Ive heard people who know music say Mullen is real good though.

I get what youre saying.

Its almost as if there are 2 U2's. Before and After Zoo Tv

I like em both.

You're right, except that I would put the dividing line as before and after 'All That You Can't Leave Behind'

A "rhythm section" should probably have rhythm, that's all I'm saying. It is funny that RPB got the two names without me naming them though.

OK, how about a U2 song for when you're happy?

"Beautiful Day"

Spanky, every U2 album has gone multi-platinum and they've been playing arenas since 1983.

So I guess you're saying it's been all down hill since "October"?

I would say they "crossed over" somewhere after 1988-89. But that would be just me - I'm probably not quite as emotionally invested in this band as you are. I can respect your position on this one.

Saying that Clayton and Mullen Jr are low talent hacks without rhythm makes me wonder of you've ever even heard U2.

SBS, Bullet The Blue Sky, Acrobat, Please, Breathe, Do You Feel Loved, Lemon, Mysterious Ways, etc.

Good god man, are you daft?

I'm not attacking you personally, but that is some seriously stupid stuff.

Well, to be honest, the fact I am the only person you've ever heard make statements like these about those two makes me think you are seeing them through blood red glasses.

It's a fairly common opinion that is held.
