We just had a talk from our company's "Luxury" expert (homes over $1M) and he said that 15 properties over $4M have sold in the last 12 months with a current inventory of 200+ in Chicagoland. These things just aren't moving unless significantly underpriced, which most sellers won't do.

Someone will pay money to live in Lebron's former house. Just think how much cachet George had for driving around in Jon Voight's car.

Whats the story with this blowup?

Berstein had one of his patented screams with a caller who was really just asking a simple question but, of course, didn't phrase it the way Berstein would have liked. Matty came on and said OK, I'm not taking any callers anymore. You guys just look to fight with anyone. He seemed pissed, I don't think it was an act. But of course B&B downplayed it and moved right along.

I agreed with Dan on just "not getting" why you'd need/want a house THAT big. It seems bizarre to me as well. It's astounding the amount of square feet, and features, you can get north of $1mil ... I just don't get why you'd feel the need to own (the worst thing in real estate) the most expensive house on the block.

I don't get why people take house boat trips on Lake Of The Ozarks. I don't get why people like NASCAR. I don't get why people buy Joe Satriani records. That shit seems bizarre to me. But live and let live. LeBron has a house that big because he can. I'm guessing if you were as wealthy as Warren Buffet you wouldn't live in a $500,000 house in Omaha and your favorite restaurant wouldn't be Steak and Shake or wherever he eats onion rings in Nebraska.

JORR -- To clarify, when I was talking about Lebron's payroll I am referring to his entourage.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm just pointing out that even if he blows $10 million a year on a bunch of hangers on, he's still got $35 million or so to play with.

And I think pointing out that Warren Buffet, who is worth $37 BILLION, lives the same lifestyle as a dentist from Schaumburg is evidence that Warren is crazy rather than LeBron.

Because there are more than enough examples of rich young atheletes lives ending in failure when they do what they want to do. It doesn't have to be a young black man, but in his field of discussion, sports and specifically basketball, most of the examples are black. Take it into the rock realm and you can have an entire network of bad examples of young people who do what they want to do having problems.

Sure there is Walker and Curry but there is also Lohan.

Even closer to dan's home, there is a castle hanging over the Kennedy at Irving Park built by some DJ that never got moved into due to financial ruin.

But LeBron hasn't done anything that anyone could consider reckless or self-destructive behavior. The very fact that he is being compared to Antoine Walker or Lindsay Lohan is disturbing. And why? Because he chose to become a free agent when he had earned free agency? And I don't know Maverick Carter from Adam, but he seems to be an enterprising young guy. Why is it when Pat Riley- a guy who has far less financial wherewithal than LeBron- buys a house, he's either a shrewd investor or just a guy who has earned it and when LeBron buys the same exact house, he's an immature child acting recklessly?

Why is it that big corporations hire people with experience and proven ability as CEOs instead of the latest valedictorians of each of the top business schools.

All young people who spend lots of money and chose inexperienced/unproven counsel will always be thought of as reckless...and correctly so.

Pat Riley may very well be reckless. However, his public dealings have showed a string of well reasoned decisions, mature career moves and a desire to be surrounded by top advisors. Even further, his opinion is sought out by others who are considered to be top decision makers. He has earned the presumption.
