in his prime iverson was amazing on the court. he literally threw himself all over the place. he was a great player and he was surrounded by garbage most of his time in philly.

what he did afterward, he fell off the map. but i knew the way he played, he wasn't going to be a guy to last all that long...his skills were going to diminish fast.

I am on record here as saying Iverson was the toughest little bastard to play any professional sport I have ever seen. He was fearless and got the shit beat out of him on a nightly basis.

If Lebron had half of his guts he would have already won three titles by now.

I always liked Iverson. He was no Tiny Archibald though.

First, you can go back and read through the thread. You're the guy that started talking shit. I'm respectful to anyone who is respectful to me. I stated my opinion regarding Barkley not being a "winner" and you said it was a "dumb comment, no basis". Well, Barkley has won exactly as many NBA championships as LeBron James. So I obviosuly wouldn't call him some expert on what it takes to win an NBA championship.

And yeah, he's a top 50 player, but I certainly wouldn't cite that list as any definitive statement. For example, Bernard King was better than more than one guy on the list. And that's just one guy who they missed. And if you're a guy who rates individuals based on their championships, I don't see how you could put Barkley in the top 50.

Anyway, I'm not really a fan of the NBA and I'm not going to claim any particular expertise, but I do pay attention to what's going on and I'm guessing I know my pro hoops at least as well as most guys who post here and that includes HOVA or anyone else.

I agree

I got it. Barkley was fat. I resarched that now what? I didnt find anywhere where he said he didnt give a shit about winning and was more interested in fucking white bitches. If I recall the 90's NBA and Im pretty sure I know more about that period of time than you do, Barkley was one of the two best PF in the league(Karl Malone 1st). So yeah at the end of his career he was fat and sloppy, but to say his opinion is silly makes you look like quite the fool. I think after being one of the 50 best players of all time and one of the top 10 players of the decade, he knows a bit more about the NBA than your dumbass does. But what the fuck do I know? Back to researching more NBA 1990-1999 for me.

You don't know shit, jerkoff. If you did, you'd know exactly how flawed the "50 best players of all time" was. Maybe someone like HOVA who really knows the game can explain it to your dumb ass. And if you think Barkley has any more authority on what it takes to win an NBA championship than LeBron James, you're the fool. You suggested Barkley sought a title in Phoenix as if he went there as a free agent, when in fact he was traded there. I guess your grasp on the 90s isn't quite as tight as you thought.

Let's see:

1). Duncan
2). Malone
3). Barkley
4). ?????

I'd pick Brad Lohaus, but that's just me.

I never said he went to the Suns as a free agent. I know he was involved in a trade that sent Jeff Hornacek to back to the 76ers.

No but you cited it as an example of his trying to win...he had No choice in the matter.

Lets revisit that trade...

Barkley had been on the trading block for weeks for a number of reasons, among them:

*The 76ers finished 35-47 last season, the poorest record in Barkley's eight years with the team.

*Barkley's playing style did not mesh with the passing-game offense that will be implemented by the new 76ers coach, Doug Moe.

*Barkley's outspokenness and behavior were a constant concern to the 76ers.

Only hours before the trade, Barkley was acquitted in a Milwaukee court of disorderly conduct and battery charges stemming from a fight he had outside a Milwaukee bar last winter, in which Barkley broke the nose of a man who had heckled him.

Such controversy has followed Barkley throughout this career. On various occasions, he has criticized 76ers management, criticized his teammates and clashed with Philadelphia reporters.

During a game against the Nets in New Jersey two seasons ago, Barkley mistakenly spat upon a girl who was sitting near a fan who was heckling him. Barkley said he had intended to spit on the fan, but his aim was not as accurate as his jump shot.

Add Magic Johnson's voice to fellow Hall of Famer Michael Jordan's: Neither ever thought of combining forces the way LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh did earlier this month with the Miami Heat.

"We didn't think about it 'cause that's not what we were about," Johnson said at Baruch College in New York, according to Bloomberg News. "From college, I was trying to figure out how to beat Larry Bird."

This past weekend, Jordan said at a celebrity golf event that he never would have played with Johnson or Bird, his two main rivals during his playing days.

"There's no way, with hindsight, I would've ever called up Larry [Bird], called up Magic [Johnson] and said, 'Hey, look, let's get together and play on one team,'" Jordan said after playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Nevada. The interview aired on the NBC telecast of the event. "But that's ... things are different. I can't say that's a bad thing. It's an opportunity these kids have today. In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys."

Johnson added on Tuesday: "It was never a question in our mind because nobody has ever done that."

Wade re-signed with Miami, while James and Bosh joined the Heat via free agency earlier this month.

I have to say that Barkley is one of the best power forwards if only for the fact that he wasn't very tall. Titles are less of an issue in his era because the Suns and the Jazz were solid Western Conference teams in the 90s, but the Bulls won 6 titles in that decade. So because of Michael Jordan those other teams weren't going to get any rings, but you can't say there weren't good teams.

LeBron's decision to bolt from Cleveland was as much as indictment on the team as it was on LeBron. He was the best player on the floor for the Cavs, but he didn't come to play every game. The great champions like Jordan, Magic and Bird all willed their teams to victory. Each one of those guys could carry their team to victory, but LeBron doesn't have that "killer" mentality despite being more physically talented than all of them.

I want to see the Miami Heat fail miserably. I want to see them knocked out in the first round of the playoffs by the Bulls if possible.

I do concur that Iverson in his prime was better than anyone his size to ever play the game and unlike pro wrestling it does really hurt when they foul you.

I don't know man. I loved Iverson too but I'm not ready to say he was better than Isiah. But then again, Isiah did play on far better teams than Iverson did, so you have a good point as well.

Why does he get extra points for being undersized?

Because at 6'4" (ish), playing power forward, he averaged 22.1ppg and 11.7rpg for his career. Also shot 54% from the field just for shits and giggles. It's a shame he couldnt have gone to the Rockets a year or two earlier. That's why I sorta think it's bullshit Chuckles is calling LBJ out. He went to a squad that had Hakeem, Drexler, and eventually Pip. Who you crapping Charles Barkley?

Yeah, but not now. Some players actually wised up and decided it was a better option to play with the best options available.

According to Wikipedia, Iverson was 6'0" and 165 lbs. and Thomas was 6'1" and 180 lbs. If Iverson was really 6'0" that's a little generous and physically he was more frail than Thomas. Iverson beat the Lakers in Game 1 of the Finals with a 76ers team that had no one. The problem of course was that no one could match up with Shaq at that time.

Iverson's biggest problem was just that he took too many shots even when he wasn't on. He was basically an undersized 2-guard, whereas Thomas was a point guard.
