You get someone in who focuses on the future. They are hungry. They want the job next year. They dont have an alliance with D-Lee and other players who are going through the motions. You can still accomplish some things and build for next year and not just fdo the Lou...what are you gonna do....style.

You forgot the part that goes "the fire and the passion" .....

OK Mr. Bernstien....ass licker.

This season has aged Lou Piniella some 25 years since this season began. I can't say I'm at all surprised that Lou's retiring after this season as the Cubs' manager. Before he took the Cub job a few years ago, he was an MLB analyst for FOX Sports. I have this hunch that FOX bigshots Ed Goren & David Hill out in Los Angeles are on the phone RIGHT NOW with Lou & his agent about returning to the booth next season. That being said, I heard FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal mention 2 weeks ago when the Cubs/Dodgers' game was the marquee game on their network about Joe Torre, who's not getting any younger, as a possible replacement on the North side...I'm not so sure about Torre either.

I just read one of Pinella's comments on this where he said, referring to rest of the season....."I just want to keep the momentum going"

MOMENTUM??

I guess you can have momentum up....and momentum down.

Few Reasons:

His lack of MLB coaching experience of any kind to start. I wouldn't mind seeing him as a Bench/3rd base coach type role. He has commented a few times about not being a big believer in advanced baseball metrics in the way he manages. Additionally, he seems to be a little too in love with the concept of playing small ball/bunting etc.

that said, I bet the 2nd and 3rd point would adjust once he's in an MLB clubhouse everyday as a coach.

Basically he's one of my favorite players of all time in any sport. Throwing him next year with this team would be a really rough situation. I'd greatly prefer he gets some experience as a coach under a guy like Brenly, Gonzalez etc and refines his managerial style and philosophy before he takes on a managers job.

So Lou was out there serving up 450 foot blasts to Chris Young, and Lou was kicking the ball around the infield against the Dodgers? You pin a lot of things on Lou (Like keeping Zambrano fresh for the Game 4 that never happened), but for the most part that 0-6 in the playoffs isn't one of them. The players choked both those years.

Even though he was a really good player during his own heyday, Ryne Sandberg needs more seasoning if he wants to manage the Cubs or any other team in Bud Selig's Major League Baseball. Before Ozzie Guillen got the White Sox job, he was a coach right after he played. If memory serves, Ozzie worked under the likes of Braves' manager Bobby Cox and was with the Marlins in 2003 as part of Jeff Torborg & Jack McKeon's coaching staff when Florida won it all for the second time in their franchise history. I think Ryne should be brought in as a bench or 3rd base coach before the Ricketts or any other team even thinks of hiring him as their manager.

Thanks, Dan. By the way, the Cubs' front office & Piniella will hold a press conference at around 4:15p or so this afternoon to discuss the retirement announcement. Comcast SportsNet, which has the game this eve vs. the Astros, will carry the presser live and streamed at CSNchicago.com.

Correct.

Lou also made MANY questionable managerial decisions in BOTH those series. yes the players choked but did Fuk have to be a choker? Why was he in there? Why was Zam pulled? It was an all round choke job, that's the only way you get swept twice... when everyone fucks up.

As an outside (i.e. Sox fan) I don't know why you wouldn't just clean house now. I listened to Paruch on Saturday afternoon I think...repeating that the ownership wants a full season to evaluate and how it wouldn't be fair to do that now...I'm with those that have said- what the hell do you need to evaluate????? clean house. 100%. Fire everyone and trade everyone you can

What rebuilding can you accomplish with Lou being gone as supposed to him finishing out the year?

If rebuilding is really your concern, it shouldn't matter one bit if Lou leaves now or at the end of the season. You should be concerned about Hendry exclusively.

Well, Ricketts just said flat out that Hendry will be the GM going into next year. There goes that idea. Damn.

After listening to these clowns at the press conference I will admit 100% that I am siding with jimmypasta and scorehead.....Fuck these losers. Ricketts is a Kansas City owner here in Chicago. He is a loser with a loser mentality who is keeping around Hendry just cause he doesn't want to buy out his contract. What a pile of dog shit.

Wow....Hendry AND Kenny keep their jobs??!??! How bad do you have to f up in Ricketts' eyes to get launched? Tom, your GM has screwed your payroll up for the next 4 years or so, but you are going to let him look for the next manager?

Since day 1, I have said Ricketts doesn't know shit about running a team. Hendry needed to be fired during this press conference. For Ricketts to say the Farm System is producing is bs. All the relievers they have brought up this season suck, except Cashner. Colvin, Castro, and Soto are they only thing they have to show for themselves under Hendry.

This will be the 3rd manager that Hendry gets to bring in? Really? So it is all Dusty's fault....and now Lou's....but none of the responsibilty for these Cubs team makes their way to Hendry's desk? Ricketts is a broke ass joke of an owner. I would rather have Steinbrenners rotting corpse at this point than this loser.

Bernstein refusing to believe that Ricketts is keeping Hendry. Apparently TERRY"S GUY is saying Hendry is gone. Here we go again.
