Since Aramis can opt out of his contract at the end of the year and Ricketts will probably tell him to GO FUCK HIMSELF if he does....Move him for young talent that is INEXPENSIVE.

He's only due to make 14.6m next year. Obviously if he performs up to his averages, you are getting a deal with that. I think you almost have to try to keep him, because remove him from this lineup and I have no idea where the rbi's would come from.

My rough projections on who will be coming back next year:


Field: Soriano, Byrd, Fukudome, Colvin, Ramirez, Castro, Fontenot, Soto,

Pitching: Dempster, Wells, Gorzellany, Silva, Marshall, Marmol, Cashner

Maybe?: Theriot, Baker, Hill


Take Ramirez out of the field and yikes. They already have a gaping hole at first to fill in addition to someone to hopefully replace piece of shit Theriot (which will be Castro I bet once Lee is called up)

That 'core' isn't that atrocious if we add one to two bats and an arm we could be competitive in the NL wild card.


All that said, it's a player option for 14.6m in 2011 and a club option for 16m in 2012 with a 2 mil buyout. Talk to him, if it sounds like he's going to be opting out you definitely trade him and see what you can get. If he gives you no inclination one way or the other, you hold onto him. Because either you are A) getting a great player for less than his market value or B) 30 million off the books over the next two years if he goes.

I see your point if he was 25 and getting into his prime. He's had a horrible first half of this season and is a ground ball at 3rd from being done for the year which his shoulder. The value we get back from him in terms of prospects is not going to be enough to make up for the production he would bring in making this team somewhat competitive next year which would keep 40k butts in the seats through September.

Don't get me wrong, a team is willing to give you a really high quality prospect or two for him you pull the trigger. I just don't see that happening

Based on his play this year and his injury history, playing up to his career averages is a big "if". But this team has bigger problems than Aramis, namely a LF and pitcher with bigger albatross contracts.

I would move Aramis in a heartbeat if I thought any team would give back any sort of value but the fact of the matter is in this economy alot of teams aren't looking to add 15 M in payroll for next season at the deadline and I do not believe that Ricketts has the cash to eat any of that contract. If the Cubs are serious about rebuilding the player to think about moving is Marmol. Relievers have a notoriously short shelf life and he would bring a king's ransom in prospects to a contender.
