TAKE IT EASY!

He's a guy who was a decent manager and had success despite his pitching moves leading to 2 blown saves in that WS. He's a pretty good color guy.

Im tired of hearing "he knows the game" or even better "he wont let these guys not hustle"

Its significantly easier to manage fron the booth than the dugout.

Vin Scully knows the game too. Hire him?

Im not saying Brenly shouldnt be a candidate but citing his biting commentary as a reason is just awful.

Id like to formally throw Dan Pleasac's name in the ring.

He knows the game.

Brenly is the the 21st century version of Steve Stone. Let's make him the GM. It worked so well when Jerry did that with Hawk...

Exactly what I was thinking, I almost named the thread after it.

If they hire him we'll be having this same conversation in 4 years about Jodi Davis or Gary Varsho.

Youre so lucky to have seen the cubs win it in 08

It doesn't matter who fills out the lineup card. Cub should be in full rebuild mode. If the roster continues to be filled out by albatross contracts (Fukudome, Soriano) and unstable lazy veterans (Zambrano, Ramirez), none of it will matter until the GM is shown the door.

I'm resigned to the fact that, no matter who the manager is, the Cubs will still suck.

No... Being a Cubs fan is about eternal optimism. One of these days the Cubbies are gonna win it all. I gotta keep the faith. I also gotta keep drinking shitty Vodka tonight!

I don't agree at all.

The fact that Brenly has a front row seat for this mess, knows the pressure he is going to get and is still willing to take the job says a ton ! He isn't coming here and is surprised at the fans and the pressure i.e. Dusty, Lou and Don Baylor.

I agree that his WS ring came as a result of having 2 dominating pitchers and a decent team, but he is a good manger and he does know this game inside and out.

If this guy was willing to take the job here, he is my #1 prospect.

Steve Stone never wanted the job and never wanted the pressure 'What has he done?"

Thats a good point. Thats the only good point, with regards to him being the color guy.

But in an off season where you could have 4 WS winning managers available, I find the Brenly love a little overboard.

In order...
Tony LaRussa
Joe Girardi
Joe Torre
Bob Brenly
Davey Johnson

Brenly is a better choice than Sandberg and Girardi.

I think BF nailed it.

Torre's name has popped up here and there over the last couple of weeks. I wouldn't mind that.

Torre is like 100 years old.

Y'all better get used to it. Out of all the guys on the list of prospects, Ryno is dead last in qualifications. We all know, I mean we KNOW he's going to be the next manager. It's what we do here in CubDUMB. We go for the emotional choice, the sentimental choice, the WRONG choice.
Fuckin book it man, Ryno.

I don't think Brenly is the absolute savior, but he certain will be better than Lou has been this year. Sure he just announced his retirement, but I think its pretty clear that after the first couple weeks of the season, his heart wasn't in it and he had grown very tired and ready to hang 'em up.

I don't think Girardi is leaving NY. I think if LaRussa leaves the Cardinals, he doesn't manage anywhere for a year or 2. Brenly at this point would be better than Sandberg. I'd like to see Sandberg have at least a year or 2 on an MLB staff (base coach, bench coach, whatever) before he is given the reigns of a big leage club.

Was listening to someone talking about Rozner's article on Ryno, basically saying that Ryne has had zero confirmation he will be the next manager. Further, he hasn't been told he's the guy in training or anything like that. In other words, just because he has progressed through the minors doesn't mean anything.

Rozer and Ryno are BFF, so I doubt Rozner is lying. Unless he is, of course.

All that being said, I think there is a very good chance he is the next Cub manager, and I agree he is the least qualified.

The one thing having Ryno as manager does for Rickets, is that it keeps the busloads coming in from Iowa, Kanakee, Peroia, etc to see the games. Making Ryno manager may not be the best baseball move, but it could be a pretty solid business move...

Jesus christ man, that's what I HATED about the Trib and I was PRAYING wouldn't be the deal with a "fan" buying the team.
This Ricketts guy... dude looks like he might like heading over to the Manhole for his weekly cosmo fix.

That's right. They can't go wrong with the fans by selecting Sandberg, plus he's going to be the cheapest option. It's going to be Sandberg and that's that. Ricketts is never going to pay for a guy like Torre or LaRussa. Ready or not, here comes Ryno.

Anyone who goes to a baseball game because of the manager is a moron, so yes, I could see Ricketts making Sandberg the manager because Lord knows Cub fans are morons. Having renounced my fandom after 2008 doesn't mean I'm not. Just in recovery.

This would be pretty damned cynical a move.....and everybody knows I'm a damned cynic.

They had better not turn this into some sort of "Who's Going to Replace Bob Bell as a Lovable Bozo Replacement" made for the Hooterville media Special!

Im infatuated with the idea of Brenly as manager. He's been in the booth observing and studying this team for 3 or 4 years. I think he is by far the most prepared to take over the Cubs. Girardi a close second, but he's not leaving NY to come here.

knowing Bully Hendry, he is too starry-eyed to not hire one of the big names like Torre or Girardi...he will betray Sandberg just like he spits out all former Cubs...

EXACTLY!!!!

If they name Ryno the Manager....THEY may actually be crucified by the media......Somebody just might stop going along with Hooterville nonsense to get a free press box lunch and media guide and start screaming CUB FANS ARE BEING PLAYED!!!!!

Someone in the media MAY STEP TO PLATE FOR THE TICKET PURCHASING CUB FANS!!!

Let's not forget, Brenly is a solid choice, along with Girardi, because they were catchers.

Just like Jim Essian and Bruce Kimm.
