I like KISS. I won't PTBF if it comes on the radio. It's fun music and pretty cool. Their concerts were reportedly Legendary although I've never seen one.
But damn, Simmons seems willing to put KISS on everything and anything and he's willing to sell out his songs and the whole image thing for shit like cherry soda?
A little overexposed on the Gene Simmons commercializing.

I was watching his tv show the other day and he is a strikingly odd man.

Gene's reality show is the only reality show that I watch. It is entertaining as hell & he has great kids. Gene is a shrewd businessman who knows how to make money.

Yep, it's his damn property. He has every right to distribute it as he wishes. He is only taking the baton from The Who and The Stones. Good for him, make it before the government takes it.

Let us not forget Led Zepplin.

They fought the good fight for a while but about 5 or 6 years ago they started popping up in every fucking car commercial.

Zeppelin.

And in thier heyday in the 70s, they did not put thier name on anything that was not one of thier records or a Tshirt at one if thier concerts.

Gene Simmons was a marketing genius back in the late '70's when KISS first hit the pavement. With help from their Manager,KISS was all over the place. Toys, lunchboxes, etc.
They had their own blood mixed with ink to print the Marvel KISS comic back in the '80's. As for his show,it seems like it is scripted & planned out,so I stopped watching it. They did raise 2 great kids though.

Jim,

Here's a newsflash for you...all reality shows are scripted & planned. Family Jewels is still the best reality show & it isn't close, although Snoop Doggs show was really good, but I'm not sure it is still on. I like Snoop.

ScoreHead,

Outside of the Playboy chicks on E,not a real big fan of these 30 minute reality bullshit fests. Simmons show looks more scripted than the others to me at least.

As a diehard KISS fan, Gene can do everything short of killing someone and I will still like him. I don't buy all the merch, I'll admit I've bought some but it stops with t-shirts, hats, magazines, books, posters with me. That might seem like a long list but if you compare it to the list of merch they've released in ain't jack shit. It's mainly about the music and video for me, watching them even on DVD is still something to see. And seeing them live 10 times in total is something I'll always cherish. And Gene is a HUGE part in all of the positives of KISS which out weigh the negatives - at least with me.

I did not see Kiss live until about 12 years ago. I have seen them 3 times. They DO put out a fine show. The one regret I will have is walking into the "KISS in 3D" show but I didn't grab the glasses on the way in. I was easy to spot in the crowd,I guess

Saw KISS in '88 at Star Plaza without make-up. Gene Simmons stopped the show when somebody threw a bottle at him and he challenged said bottle hurler to a meeting on stage. I'll never forget that.

As far as Gene goes, he's a capitalist. Don't really give a shit, cuz I've never purchased any of his product. Envious?....maybe. I'm sure it's great to be him.

I think KISS is one of the most overrated bands ever. I honestly think if they didn't paint thier faces nobody would give a shit about them.

Overrated by who? Certainly not by music critics. :D
I totally agree with your second point, though.

I won't say the makeup isn't a reason people dig them but from 1983 - 1995 they sold around 20 million albums and that's without the face paint. Honestly the face paint for me never mattered, I got into KISS during the non makeup years and will always put the music before anything else. I think if non fans did that they would find they have some great stuff.

I grabbed them and wore them to see if it mattered and in my case it didn't, still a fun show though.
