That's what I expect from the Bears this year.

People will love them or hate them.

On defense, either they'll be studs or disappoint - and nothing will be Lovie's fault (sigh).

On offense, either the whole Martz thing will work, or Cutler is gonna get killed or implode from being a 'timing passer vs. a thread the needle to where he thinks a guy can be open'. Whatever it is, it won't be bland Ron Turner pop warner league bullshit.

I say bring it.... If there's a lockout after this season - I want 'amusing entertainment' from the Bears.

It's like when Mike Vick was rolling several years ago - everytime he dropped back to pass, it would be exciting.... he'd either run 80 yards for a TD, somehow manage to find Alge Crumpler, or scramble sideline to sideline before fumbling the ball for a defensive TD. LOL...

I think some games they will look great, like a well oiled machine, and some games they will look terrible and end up 8-8.

I can't wait!

I think that they'll be good or they won't.
Either offense will be good or it will be not quite so good.
And the defense, they'll be good... Maybe not so good.

Ah yes... I see we feel about the same way.

You don't know what to think good or bad.

But one thing is for sure, Martz will make Lovie Smith look like a genius hire, or he'll be the cement boots on his feet.

I hear Bill Cowher now has no reason to remain in Carolina too. In the words of James Hetfield: Sad, but true.

I'd expect a big season of nothing. The Bears will cling to playoff hopes in late November but ultimately we find out that they aren't as good as the Vikings and Packers who are both playoff teams.

Well if you wanna be an asshole (honest) about it...

Everytime I wanna get excited and think Cutler can bounce back, I think of Hester running the wrong way and some rookie safety scoring his first TD on a pick 6.

My bold prediction: Cutler throws MORE Interceptions than last year

Defense will keep them respectably average. 8-8

That would be pretty tough to do.

I think the offense will be a pleasant surprise and I think Cutler will have a much better season: 4208 yards/27 TDs/17 INTs

However, I think the Defense is going to suck a bag of dicks. Peppers gets double-teamed all season and no one else on that line can generate any pass rush.

8-8 ... but Lovie hangs on to his job because of the impending lockout. :x

The Julius Peppers Bears contract will prove to be one of the worst deals in NFL history. The contract is worth $91.5 million with $42 million guaranteed. Peppers will make $40.5 million over the first three years. 10 sacks per season gets a player a huge contract like this? Plus Peppers is horrible against the run, so he wont play every down.
I still find it unbelievable that the Bears finally invested in a QB, but they have done nothing to give him better protection of better WR's. It just doesn't make any sense. Lovie spends a ton of money on the Defense, yet the investment on Offese is signing Chester Taylor, a career backup who has never been able to win the #1 RB job.
The Bears Offense will be better as will Cutler, but the Bears schedule is brutal. 6-10 should get Lovie fired...I hope.

I would have rather seen the Bears sign an OL & WR who will start instead of a #2 RB.

Who was available?

The Bears had a need on the DL and they signed the best available player. Of course you overpay, but thats what happens. That is a bad thing?

They are fine on WR give them time to see what they can do and develop.

I'm not a huge fan of the Peppers signing but I see why they did it. It might work out like they think, but I don't think so.

I get the feeling you'd like to be right and see them fail. I think that's shitty.Drink the Kool Aid for now. They is plenty of time to be pissy when they suck.

They have sucked for 3 years now. I'll still drink the kool aid but I will also be objective.

You could have had OJ Atogwe for close to what you paid Chester Taylor.

Agreed this is the most polarizing year of projections I have ever seen. I for one think they will be good. With Urlacher and Piso healthy adding Peppers and Harris will make them better on D. Offense will improve based on better play calling, better play from Cutler and hopefully the recievers. RB situation will improve. Everyone stated that Forte was used too much in first year and will suffer in second. He did. Forte and Taylor will be a force. ALL this depends on better O line play. With all the bad play and injuries last year, they still were 7-9. no reason they cant go at least 9-7, maybe more. Vikings will not be as good, Favre will not duplicate, but that D will carry them far, I say 10-6. Packers will hit reality and finish 10-6. If Bears can get some lucky wins, they might make playoffs.

I think they could have signed OJ anyway...I'm less enthusiastic about Manumaleuna.

What's done is done. They needed a safety and OL but let's see if the other holes they patched work out.

Taylor may have temporarily held the title of "starter" for a little while, but even then he wasn't a #1 RB.
Chester is a journyman player.

I'm not a Taylor FANBOY, but he did rush for 1200+ yards and caught 42 passes the year before Peterson got there ...

I think there's a good chance Taylor ends up as the starter by the end of the season.

Chester Taylor career numbers (Eight seasons):

Rushing - 1,028 Att - 4,396 Yds - 4.3 Avg - 22 Tds
Receiving - 265 Rec - 2,094 Yds - 7.9 Avg - 6 Tds
Total - 1,293 Touches - 6,490 Yds - 5.0 Avg - 28 Tds

Bears finish 9-7

Here is the Bears 2010 schedule. The NFL schedule makers weren't very nice to the Bears. The 2nd half is especially brutal.

Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 12 vs. Detroit Lions, 12pm
Week 2: Sunday, Sept. 19 at Dallas Cowboys, 12pm
Week 3: Monday, Sept. 27 vs. Green Bay Packers, 7:30 p.m.
Week 4: Sunday; Oct. 3 at New York Giants, 7:20 p.m.
Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 10 at Carolina Panthers, 12pm
Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 17 vs. Seattle Seahawks, 12pm
Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 24 vs. Washington Redskins, 12pm
Week 8: Sunday, Oct. 31 bye week
Week 9: Sunday, Nov. 7 vs. Buffalo Bills (in Toronto), 12pm
Week 10: Sunday, Nov. 14 vs. Minnesota Vikings, 12pm
Week 11: Thursday, Nov. 18 at Miami Dolphins, 7:20 p.m.
Week 12: Sunday, Nov. 28 vs. Philadelphia Eagles, 12pm
Week 13: Sunday, Dec. 5 at Lions, 12pm
Week 14: Sunday, Dec. 12 vs. New England Patriots, 12pm
Week 15: Monday, Dec. 20 at Vikings, 7:30 p.m.

I am counting on the Packers not trying to play any starters in week 17 and Favre finally breaking down by Week 15 this year. Beating the Giants really isn't anything to write home about.
