Look at some of the players he has personally worked with. Noah was a bust until Myers took him under his wing. Guys like Ben Gordon and Chandler would talk up Myers without being asked. When Vinny was the coach you would see him on the sideline doing more coaching at times than Vinny. When a guy came off the court he would give them some instructions.
Being well liked and being effective are not the same thing. It is quite possible, for instance, that a college teacher can be extremely popular--can construct a course specifically designed to receive good evaluations from his or her students--without teaching them a thing.
