Just stay away. Yes, I know it's hard to break bad on a guy when they suffer a death in the family, but I see managers wives pass away and they are gone for 2 days, Lou's uncle passed and he is gone for 5 days.

I really mean he should call Hendry and just say he isn't coming back. His interest is comparable to mine right now, but I am not getting paid $5 million to be there.

Not that Lou would have stopped the run onslaught, but this organization right now is pathetic at best while they are stuck in place and are doing nothig to move forward, like getting a new manager, because we can't fire Lou!

judging by run differentials when he's not managing, lou may be the best manager in baseball.

Laughed at myself yesterday for pondering the same thing. Maybe Lou had a little more fire and passion than I originally thought.

Hendry has too much respect for Lou...How many times have we heard that? Hell, if he had any respect at all for the man, he'd tell him NOT to come back. Fucking train wreck! The whole damn thing

If this is Year One....what the fuck is next year going to be? Rickett's needs to step up.

I think Lou would LOVE to be fired. I think he's stayed away a bit longer than he would normally, because he has no real interest in continuing to lord over this team. However, it's in Ricketts best interest to NOT fire Lou. He needs as much grace period as he can buy. Hiring Sandberg now, gets the clock ticking already. better to wait until next April. He's gonna go with youth and build through the farm system. That means that the next couple years, it's going to be difficult at best, to truely contend. The only thing that might change the timing, is if the ballpark is half empty in the VERY near future. That could create a greater sense of urgency to do something now. Thank God football will be starting soon.

The only thing I'd be concerned about right now if I were Ricketts is FINANCES and that out of control payroll for this pile of crap.

For Hendry to keep his job past the end of the season, Ricketts HAS TO HAVE credible evidence that Hendry was ordered to go out and sign this Stiff Soriano....Ricketts can only hold the contract of Soriano against Hendry....not Zambrano who everybody thought had to be signed and was a workhorse, or Fukustiffy or RBI machine ARAM.

Ricketts has to have information from neutral baseball men as to the real value of the prospects in the system..if he doesn't and just blindly listens to Crane Kenny-Tribune Suit, he's nuts.

I would like to see a change based on the moves Hendry made over the past few years. He wanted (thought he needed) a left handed outfielder to drive in runs and rather than signing guys like Abreau or Ibanez, he signs a guy who has been oft injured and a problem both on and off the field (Milton Bradley) He has failed to get a legitimate leadoff hitter and went into this season with Caridad and Grabow as his set-up men. The signing of big name, high priced guys like Soriano may have been at the request of guys like Crane Kenny, but in the end, the players he chooses and the contracts he offers up, are his decisions.

That said-I get the feeling that the Ricketts family likes Hendry. Further, I believe they intend to build this team from their farm system. When you look at the way it's produced guys like Soto, Theriot, Colvin and Castro, as well as guys like Casey McGahee who was traded, it seems the farm system is working pretty well. If they believe the guys in place are going to continue to develop good players and that Hendry (as well as the scouts under him) have shown good judgement where drafting is concerned, Hendry may well stay a good while longer. He's under contract for 2 more years, so if they are gonna go young and they think he's drafted well, they might as well keep him. If they want to compete right away and sign guys like Cliff Lee and Prince Fielder, he has to go.

McGehee was released after a season where he hit .296/.345/.429 with 12 HR 93 RBI and 20 doubles in triple A.

This is a good article explaining Hendry's mistake:

Hendry was a boob long before Casey left the organization. "Who is gonna play thirdbase for us", indeed.
If Shingles wants to know if Hendry is telling him the truth why doesn't he just ask ole Johnny McAnnuity? He's just a little south of him on Madison Ave. and will surely tell Tommy the truth, no?

When a guy completely fucks up your organization, you fire him & bring in someone else. I have never seen a smart organization let a guy stay on board after he has screwed his department up. Thanks for playing, Bye bye.
I'm starting to think that Ricketts really is going to bring Hendry back next year & let him hire the next Cubs Manager. Hendry has hired 2 Cubs Managers. How many MLB GM's have had the opportunity to hire 3 Managers??? Not many.
Things could get really bad for Ricketts & the Cubs if he lets Hendry hire the next Manager & he brings in another old timer re-tread. There may just be a fan revolt next year.
Ricketts could at least save some face if he fired everyone right now to at least show the fans that the rebuilding process has begun. Ricketts might need Sandberg more than Ryno needs the Cubs.
