I apologize if there is a previous topic. I could not find it using my own search function. Comcast has once again decided to give it to me on the bill. I think I need to switch. I would like to hear how everyone likes their service, price, etc. I have a concern with the dishes, due to signal. I'm going to need TV and Internet. The timing is perfect for DirecTV, as I could add the football package. Thanks.

I've had directv before, and the bill was fair and I loved the NFL Ticket. But, I'd get rain fade at the worst times and it was frustrating as hell. Directv would never give any type of credit at all and I got fed up with them.

The past 4 years I've had Comcast with the triple play (TV, internet and phone). The bill can get pricey sometimes (especially when the wife or FavreFan's Friend order PPV), but I've only lost service once in four years, and that was do to one of the technicians disconnecting our feed (had to figure it out myself and re-connect cables as they left the box open :x ). The picture quality on the SD feed for comcast doesn't seem as crystal clear as DTV, but the HD is pretty outstanding. As far as the football package goes, I'd save your money on it and go with the NFL Redzone. Takes you to every thing that has action going on.

I've never had Dish or U-Verse, but I've heard really good things about U-Verse.

I have the U-Verse equivelant of the Triple Play and I like everything about it EXCEPT ... no MLB Network.

Technology is great and the price isn't bad - pay $130ish for everything and I have the U300 package that includes Showtime, Starz, etc.

I had Comcast for 4 years before switching to U-Verse, and I couldn't be more pleased. True, U-Verse has no MLB Network, but I never watch a ton of baseball on TV anyway. I also have the U300 package and am paying $117/mth (I do not have phone service).

I've done this for the last five years. It has always worked well. This time, it was similar to speaking to Free Ajent in the Drinky Board. Before I cut ties altogether, I think I will call in again and try someone else. That has worked in the past as well.

I almost switched this week from Comcast...it took 2 phone calls to say that I was switching but they did give me the same package/price for the next 6 months.

I was leaning towards Direct TV too because of the Ticket but RedZone is good too and I did not have to worry about signal.

I have Uverse. I would never go back to Dish or Direct TV. I always here from people about there dish going out so why bother with that while living in Illinois. Comcast is way too high right now on their prices so thats the reason why we switched to Uverse. We also have all 3(phone,intenet,cable).

I like U-Verse, although I've never had anything but Comcast, so I'm not much of an expert. I will say, we are having some kind of issue with U-verse today. The signal has "froze up" 3 or 4 times for about a minute each time. I did see an AT&T truck down the street for a long time yesterday, so it may be something they are working on? Time to make a phone call.

To sidetrack, the 'Redzone' channel is great if you are the type to do nothing on Sundays but sit around watching football. With U-verse, it's $5 a month for the "premium HD" package which is a handful of channels, including Redzone. I pick it up in Sept. and then cancel it after week 17.

We have direct tv and are probably going to switch to uverse. Dtv goes out too often.

this is really surprising to hear....
I've had Directv for 6 years now
I'd say it's gone out (for more than 1 or 2 minutes) maybe 2, 3 times in that time period?
and it's always been because of the snow, not rain
maybe you just don't have a strong enough signal to begin with so any interference will cause it to go out

It was great at our old house. It was scrambly this morning because of the storms and it happens all the time now.

If the football package is a big deal for you then you might want to skip DTV. As others have said, you only need the Redzone channel and the problem with DTV is that the only way they let you buy the redzone channel is if you first pluck down over $300 for the full NFL package. Then you get to spend another $100 on top of that for the redzone. Total ripoff.

As for the picture going out, its not that big a deal as it only happens during pretty severe storms. It will definitely happen and no doubt at some point it will happen right in the middle of a key broadcast for you, but overall it doesn't happen enough for it to be a deal breaker.

I got the NFL ticket for a total of $180 this year. $29 & change for 6 months. It is worth it to me. That said, the weather can be an issue and the fucking "searching for signal" message pops up at the worst time. Happened to me this year right toward the end of a Final Four game(s).

I have Directv and the signal stays unless a big rain storm is coming, so that has improved. I will say if you have a company that can give you the NFL Network, then you have the redzone channel there.

To me, With Directv you can get the Package, which helps the NFL, but then on the NFL Network that is part of most people's packages, you can watch every game for free. I think the NFL made a mistake there, Directv gives you a billion dollars for the package, but on their own network we give you the redzone channel.

I had cable with Prime Cable before it became AT&T Broadband and now Comcast. Before I switched to DIRECTV where I used to live many years ago, there was a situation where the cable went out completely for an entire week and that watching regular TV was very, very difficult due to all the wiring on our TVs. While our neighbors didn't experience such a problem, it was terrible and reached a point where we dumped our cable system and got DIRECTV. The only issue with DIRECTV is that the satellite will go out whenever there's a really bad storm, such as was the case this morning.

There are a couple of big time pluses with my DIRECTV, besides the fact I now have it in HD. One, my dad & I are big time baseball fans, and in addition to all the White Sox & Cubs' games locally, we've got the "MLB Extra Innings" package in which we can watch about 40 other games a week from outside the market, now featuring your choice of announcers in many cases. When the Red Sox face the Yankees this weekend in the Bronx, for instance, you can watch Boston's feed via NESN with Don Orsillo, Jerry Remy & Heidi Watney on the call or New York's call via YES Network with Michael Kay, Ken Singleton & Paul O'Neill come Friday night alone. Also, I've become quite a fan of MLB Network, DIRECTV 213. They were all over the MLB Trade Deadline this past Saturday. complete with the likes of Peter Gammons, Harold Reynolds, Ken Rosenthal, Jon Heyman & Tom Verducci part of their nonstop coverage. Besides, there's a show called "Quick Pitch", which not only features plenty of highlights from all the games, but quite the eye candy in Hazel Mae as host.

So what's the deal with Direct TV? Do you need one receiver for each TV? AND, if I want DVR, do I then need a separate DVR for each TV, and not be able to watch on one TV what I recorded on the other?

Does Direct TV or UVerse have some sort of referral program?

Yup, you need a friend's account number, if you're interested pm me...
Also, I have direct TV since we moved to PA, primarily because of the NFL Sunday ticket, so I can watch the bears (because I'm a masochist), and because the cable option here sucks (Blue
Mountain Cable...I don't think they have HD yet). Every year after the first year, I call and threaten to cancel the Sunday ticket and get over half off the regular price. In 3 years I have never had a service interruption due to weather. There are commericals that talk about having 1 DVR for the whole house, I don't know if that means you can switch to only one receiver for the whole house, but I haven't actually called for more information.
