joey votto is the goods. if drew stubbs could consistently hit .275 he'd be too.... where did jay bruce's power go this year? for like 1/2 of the season he was hitting ~.275ish which for him over the last couple'a years was the operative problem, as he could hit ~20-25 HRs in limited at bats but he struggled to hit even .225.... so this year he's hitting .280 for awhile, taking walks, yet the power sucks... and now he's on his annual pilgrimage back to robdeerville without the power. sigh. it's harder to replace adam dunn than you think, eh?

i fucking loathe dusty baker and wish him much failure and misfortune, but i do appreciate watching joey votto, who's right now in the prime of his career. great hitter.

Arroyo has to be one of the most annoying guys to watch pitch. His weird ass skinny bowed out legs doing that leg kick, constantly grabbing his junk and I haven't even mentioned his hair. He kinda looks like billy the exterminator.

I just read a little piece on how Jon Daniels, GM of the Rangers, is able to opt out of his contract after this season if there is an ownership change. He has done a nice job there in his young career and I know a team that could use a new GM after this year, but he seems likely to stay or go to his hometown Mets.

Ricketts isn't going to pay Hendry and an actual top dollar GM at the same time next year.

The little I have seen of DeWitt I like him. He seems like a better lefty version of Theriot. Can someone explain to me why the Dodgers thought Theriot was an upgrade over him?

watching with the volume off, they just showed a shot that panned across the cubs bullpen where a guy or two had their heads down... some goateed schmuck look lost. carlos marmol is striking the thinker sculpture pose.

and then they go to lou, who looks like he needs to make hot love to a scotch.

funny, after a pitch or two they just showed that bullpen shot again with more focus on marmol, who is definitely doing that statuesque pose, then they go back to lou who, oh yeah, keep walking my friend, keep walking.

I'd better not hear Hendry say, "Yeah we would love to bring Derrek back next year." I'll go down there and stomp his fucken ass.

Yeah, I'm sure the Dodgers PR people will jump all over that.

"We now return to the Comcast Sports Net Cubs Postgame show... Lou Pinella is answering questions."

muffled voice from the reporter pool... probably that fruit Levine:
"Lou, in today's game you saw two innings where you had runners in scoring position with no outs that didn't get knocked in, are you thinking of making any changes tomorrow?"
Lou:
"We had a game today?"

it sucks that this isn't a nightgame, because clicking over to david kaplan achieving unequivocal excellence in the field of douchebaggery for a few minutes always makes me smile. @thekapman has me blocked on twitter, suffice to say =D

you know, i would love to hear lou go off on this team with a few in him. as he has proclaimed "[he's] no dummy" and i think this is the year that it finally set in how hamstrung hendry made him by trotting out a team that while ostensibly still in the race turned to bob howry, freshly cut from the diamondbacks (and look at that bullpen... yikes. i think heilman is still closing with an ERA near 5), to play a somewhat significant role. it seemed like whenever i happened across the cubs and bob howry was in there would be trouble afoot almost instantly.. hell there were games where i'd turn it on and see runners on base and the cubs in an unfavorable situation and be like "yep. that's howry in there"

at least dusty's run managed to completely go off the tracks after 04... and there was that rumor that he was having IRS issues like owing them $10-12 mil so they gave him his 4yr/$16m upfront to help that out, and that's why there was no move to get rid of him at any point... he was prepaid. and i mean, sure the 05/06 teams were bad, but within a year with a new manager and a few overpaid free agents they managed to go to the playoffs. i don't think any manager could take the rotting carcass of this team to the playoffs next year, especially since they've managed to help destroy any and all value for their "ace" and it turns out their bullpen was largely dependent on a kid with arm problems and really who's their exciting pitching prospects for the future?

i guess this is what you get when you have a baseball idiot like hendry "make a run" at a world series for better or worse in 07/08 then fail miserably... you're looking at a good solid ~3-4 years of baseball hell.

So the cubs are a KC win (Cleveland should be able to hold on to their game tonight) away from being tied for the 5th worst team in the majors. This is probably the earliest I have seen a team completely mail it in. Usually bad teams will take some pride in messing up other teams playoff chances, but not this team.

LaHair and Snyder are once again ripping up AAA tonight. LaHair was at 1b tonight. :D :D I realize they are both a bit older than you would like, but they are hitting for power and average with consistency and I would at least like to see them given a shot on this lifeless corpse of a team. You never know when you might find a Casey McGahee that another team has given up on.
