I agree that would be a bad way to judge. Unfortunately for you, it's much closer to what you are saying. The reason your analogy is bad is because there is a limit on the number of chairs and people may be counted twice. That's why tv ratings are a better metric. People are counted once. There is no limit to the amount of people who can watch on television. I'll say it for the last time. A regular season NFL game gets more people watching(interest) than a World Series game on the same day almost every single time.

I'm not saying the NFL hasn't marketed its product better than MLB. Baseball is still a very regional sport. If the Rays are in the World Series that isn't going to be appointment television for most Diamondbacks fans. I don't think that fact speaks to the popularity of the game, however. Football, on the other hand, has taken its relatively short season and positioned it as a step-by-step journey on the road to its ultimate game- The Super Bowl- where advertising and sport meet in a cauldron of Americana.

Boilermaker Rick wrote:
Go bump an old thread where we talked about this and respond to it there. I'm not having this discussion again. It's clear you didn't get it back then and probably won't now. No need to rehash it again.

The only reason I even responded to it was because I wanted to make it clear once again that my point was never that advertising doesn't work. In fact, if you look back I gave two specific ways that it does work. The discussion was on whether my choices are because of advertising. I don't care if you disagree but at least be accurate.

I'm not pulling up any old threads. I know what you said. You don't believe your choices are due to advertising. I get it. Neither do most people. That's why advertising works so well.

NASCAR probably has more attendance than the NFL. Is racing bigger than football? No.

If you want to play the attendance game pull up the sellouts of each league. See how close to 100% capacity the NFL is compared to baseball. I love baseball, but there is no way its bigger than the NFL. No fucking way. You're wrong and you are sounding even more moronic with each post in this thread.

Dude, I'm the only guy in this thread that doesn't sound like a complete tool. The rest of you keep making authoritative statements about something that cannot possibly be quantified.

And I'm not sure how "popular" Nascar is either. I'm thinking it's pretty popular. But what it doesn't have is the history and emotional and familial ties that baseball has. Football doesn't have those either. You just don't hear guys talk about the first football game that their dad took them too and how everything was green and how they smelled the grass. Now, I think most of those stories are bullshit, but the fact is, they're told. And part of the reason may be that over 90% of NFL "fans" never attend a game. You might say that's because it's more expensive or a tougher ticket or whatever. Those are just reasons and no different from the reasons I've given you as to why football has better television ratings.

Why are you guys still arguing with this JORR guy. He is making himself sound like an idiot more and more each day. What numbers does he base his Red Sox vs Yankees filling 5 football fields comment? His attendence arguement should have ended this thread. Comparing NFL to MLB because of attendence is moronic at best.

And why is that, you fucking snot-nosed jagoff? I'm sure I can go through your posts and find you comparing Sox and Cubs attendance. Or does attendance only count when you want it too?

Way to dance around the question jerkoff. Congrats on becoming the ONLY person(not sure if you have a set of balls) in America that thinks that baseball is more popular than football. Your basis for thinking baseball is more popular is..............?????????????? From what I gathered here your dumbass thinks that because people care more about the HR records in baseball than they do about the TD records in football, that baseball has to be more popular. Brilliant arguement to support your facts.

Were you implying that you're not a fan if you don't attend a game?

What exactly is the question, numbnuts? If you were one-tenth as capable of articulating what you're attempting to say as I am, I'd probably know.

Further, I'm sure I'm not the ONLY person in America who is convinced that baseball remains the most popular game. Regardless, as I've stated repeatedly, there is no definitive answer. The fact that you and others cannot admit that makes you look stupid and hard-headed. It's certainly not a reflection on my more than reasonable viewpoint.

If you ask 250 million Americans to list their top 5 favorite sports, give 5 points to the top answer, 4 to the second, and so on, I'm fairly confident that NFL Football scores the most points. Baseball might be the most sentimental sport, but I think it'd be a second or third (to College Football).

You tell me. What makes one a fan?

I'm not suggesting that not attending a game precludes one from being a fan. I would, however, affirmatively state that failing to view a particular game on television doesn't disqualify someone as a fan either.

Read it slower. What are you basing your idea that baseball is more popular than football? HOW MUCH SIMPLER CAN THE FUCKING QUESTION BE?

I think it's time we start judging how popular a television show is by the size of the live studio audience instead of the number of people who show interest in it by watching.

Guys like that just bother me. I slept well and got some yesterday. Golf is another story. Guys like JORR are just bitches that talk shit on an internet message board acting like tough guys calling people names when they challenge him to back up his frivolous claims. He does that on a message board because in real life people would smack the shit out of a stupid fuck like him.

So JORR, can you rank these Chicago teams in terms of how popular they are in Chicago?

Bears
Bulls
Sox
Cubs
Blackhawks

By the way, if you use your metric of total attendance, this would be the result.
Cubs
Sox
Blackhawks
Bulls(virtually tied with the Hawks though)
Bears(not even close to any of the above)

So are you making a case that the Bears are the fifth most popular team in Chicago?

And guys like you bother me. Instead of discussing or arguing your point, you think calling me stupid is sufficient. The same thing goes for Frank. As frustrating as guys like Boilermaker Rick can be to argue with, at least they know how to do so and rarely resort to name-calling or cheap shots, that stupid comment about studio audiences excepted.

What gives you the right to challenge me to anything? Everyone can read the thread. I didn't say one fucking thing to you until you posted this:

And then you've got the nerve to try to rally the guys from your poker game into a micro-mob against me by saying I called you names? Give me a fucking break, man. This is what guys mean when they talk about cliques. If you have something to say to me, just say it directly. Don't try to whip up a gang with a "you guys" post. Or can't you stand on your own?

And don't talk shit about who would and wouldn't smack the shit out of who. It's just goddamn dumb in a forum like this.

I rallied the troops around you? Are you being serious right now? Free Ajent, did I call you even though I dont have your number. Did I ask anyone for help........ Please share a PM I sent if I did. I have asked you questions in the past and rather than answer them, you duck them and start slinging mud everywhere trying to avoid it. So Im going to avoid you and dealing with your posts.

Have fun and good luck with this arguement.

I'd say Cubs, Bears, Sox , Bulls, Hawks. It's a strange thing in Chicago, because of the Sox/Cubs. Just about everyone is a Bears fan. But baseball is just more important than football. I can't even imagine what Chicago would be like if the Cubs were in a World Series. (We don't have to worry about that any time soon. :D ) I know one thing. It would dwarf any Bears Super Bowl.

How can you say that? The Sox, Bulls, and Hawks all have much higher total attendance numbers.

I think you're wrong. Almost all Chicagoans are Bears fans, and they're split amongst the cubs/sox. Therefore, in terms of numbers of fans, Bears are probably #1.

Come on, Rick. Don't be argumentative just for the sake of it. I don't think attendance numbers are the whole story any more than I think TV ratings are.

Come on, Rick. Don't be argumentative just for the sake of it. I don't think attendance numbers are the whole story any more than I think TV ratings are.

Rick can be a prick, you know...
