This year's rousing .427 win % is close to the worst teams I seen in my lifetime.
In '06 they had finished worse, with a .407 but this years team has serious potential to be worse than that 96 loss squad.
2000 was one game worse but no one thought they were worth a shit going into that season anyway so it wasn't as painful to watch.
I was only 3 in '80 so I missed that 98 loss team.

Yup this might turn out to be the worst team I've had the pleasure of watching.

I wasn't three in '80, so I remember that fucking team. They fucking blew.

What sucks more is, that in my lifetime the 90+ loss seasons more than double the 90+ win seasons. I'm sick and tired of this shit.

I was 1 in 80 so I don't remember it. This is probably the most frustrating and embarrassing team I remember. Well, that one where they started off losing like 12 or 16 in row was pretty awful. This is the only team I can remember that straight up does not give a fuck in any capacity.

!997 was the first year i decided to watch baseball again after the '94 strike. What does the team of my youth reward me with...an 0-14 fucking start, that's what.

This team is right up there with the worst I have ever seen. I'm so glad Lee is still hitting third. That decision alone should preclude Lou from ever getting into the HOF as a manager.

Who is at this game? I am not hearing any booing at all. Maybe WGN is editing it all out. I have a solution for that though as I should have the reds feed too.

I know a lot of people like that. Some of them haven't really come back yet- and maybe they never will. When there was no World Series that season, people took it personally. Like something had been stolen from them.

There's a real possibility that there won't be an NFL season in 2011. Since most of you believe the NFL is more popular, do you think people will be as devastated and angry as they were with baseball in '94, or will they just watch college ball until the pros return?

I just heard a promo that said "Watch as Starlin Castro and the Cubs take on Tim Lincecum and the Giants...".
There's something wrong about that.

The NFL doesn't mean nearly as much to me as baseball did. The gamblers will be most angry.

I've only been seeing them on WGN since about '85 (first year in Chi.), but I think this might be the most overpaid bad team.

If you mean that they have been forced into promoting a good young player in an add, how is that bad? At least they now have one, I think.
I want a team of good young players. I've had my fill of piecing together a team of disinterested over-payed vets.

Heh, yeah...this is nothing. Im 61 and also a long time sufferer. There probably arent too many here that can remember when the Cubs had regular mid-week crowds of 1500 to 3000 people. Some really bad, bad teams and back then the fans had enough sense to stay away in droves. This years team is only looking this bad because they cant hit...at least they get a bit of pitching. There were a lot of Cub teams that got no pitching or hitting...but for what they're paying this 2010 collection of asshats, its a real disgrace. Although with these Lemminglike fans still piling in for the games, why should the ownership even bother to put out a product.

I stopped giving a shit about this team after the Dodgers series in 2008. They don't deserve my attention. Air is fresher, food tastes better, and most of all, I am happier. I actually laugh at games like the blowout versus the Brewers earlier this week. This team/organization is NEVER going to win. Nothing to do with curses, either. Just stupid people in charge who make stupid decisions year after year, decade after decade, century after century.

Get used to it. He's the face of this team now. If Ricketts is going in the direction that everyone says he is, Castro will be the elder statesman in 2 years time.

It seems the Cub is run much like the federal government. Those responsible for fucking things up are put in charge of fixing it. Good gig of you can get it.

we've had far worse teams than this...this team to me and even in 2006 were watchable...to me, nothing was worse than the 1997 and 1999 teams, as well as several other 80s and 90s teams

this team here still has a lot of talent, and some decent young players...its just that once Hendry and the players were resigned to their fate (Lilly trade), things just snowballed...its hard for anyone to care much now

Snowballed, indeed. They fucking blew long before the Lilly trade. This has been a poorly constructed team for the better part of the last three seasons. Are you daft?

It's just one division title in the last three years, Doofus. What do the Cub have to show for those division titles, huh?

You are daft.

Only the Cubs would let the guys who fucked things up try to fix in. In business they fire your ass.
Ricketts should blow this fucking mess up right now. If he brings Hendry back next year & lets him hire his third Manager there might just be a revolt by Cubs fans. Rickets cant afford to keep these goofs.

Worst Cubs team?

How about most of the time post the Banks/Santo/Williams era pre 1984?

Most of the 90s?

2000, 2002 and 2006"

I think part of the problem is while most of us didn't expect them to contend I think people expected them to be at least 500.

I truly wish that I could just stop watching altogether, or at least without any emotional attachment to this team just as you have, Ed. I have, however, stopped caring at this point, just as Jason B said earlier. The only problem is that I know that I'll be back next year :x I love the game of baseball too much. I know that what we're seeing on the field is absolutely not representative of the game and how it's to be played, but it is, unfortunately, the team that I've chosen to follow. There is no fathomable way to switch allegiance to another team in the league. If that happens and then, in the inkling of a snowball's chance in hell, the Cub actually does the unthinkable and actually wins something, I couldn't deny an emotional attachment to them and not rejoice-I'm stuck with this shitty team and I'll just bitch and suffer through it until I'm put out of my misery one way or the other...
