I've been doing the fantasy (football) thing for 20 years. Been running my own league for the last few. I am interested in making my league a keeper league. What is the best way to do keepers? What rules and shit do you go by and what happens, say, next year if there is turnover among owners?

Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Make sure that you have everyone know before the draft that its going to be a keeper league so they can draft accordingly. I would say its up to your league to decide how many people are going to be keepers. If your going to start your first one I would say do 2 to 3 keepers. Also try and decide if your going to do keeper after you get one of the top 3 picks :D . If there is turnover, you can offer the new person that owners team and he can decide if they want to keep any of the players that the previous owner had. If you usually have alot of turnover(say a 10 team league and 3 new guys a year or every few years) a keeper league might not be the best bet.

My league does 2 keepers and they have to be drafted in the third round or later. Each year your keeper moves up 2 rounds. So say you got Forte in the third round last year, if you wanted to keep him he would have to be your 1st round pick. Then next year you could not keep him.

Ray Rice last year was drafted in the 6th round. Therefore the guy keeping him is using his 4th round pick on him this year and next year he will be his 2nd. After that he is back in the pool.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm trying to get feedback from my owners on whether or not we want to do this. My league is on ESPN's website. I'll have to look into their options for keeper leagues.

I like this idea. At least this way players get shuffled back into the pool every few years and your premier players (or at least players drafted in the first few rounds) are available year to year. Like I said, I'm not sure how flexible ESPN's site is in regards to keepers. We draft online and at least this year it wouldn't be a problem, but I could possibly see issues with next year's draft.

I'm in a keeper league that is also an auction league. To keep a player for next year, you have to pay him 110% of his current salary (rounding up if needed.) You can keep a max of 5 players, but don't have to keep any. A week after the Superbowl you declare 10 players on your potential keep list. Then the day of the draft, you announce who you are keeping.

Will ESPN's draft allow you to account for these rules? I'm hoping it will so I don't have to deal with a big pain in the ass setting up next year's draft if we go to a keeper format this year.

Don't know about ESPN but Yahoo will.

We do 3 keepers but only 1 can be a running back.
