I cannot tell you how relieved I am that I don't have to watch him get pounded by Zambrano again.
That was so. Fucking. Gay.

Wow. Here's who they traded him for. A Class A guy hitting .255

Quote:
Crawford, 22, was a ninth-round pick by the Giants in the 2009 draft. He was hitting .255 with 12 doubles, 12 triples and 24 steals in 109 games at Class-A Augusta. Crawford plays centerfield and is an athletic outfielder with speed.

I trust in Hendry's talent evaluation...

In "A" ball, if you hit it into the outfield, you can get a triple by running while the calliope music plays.

SAN FRANCISCO – First came the farewell hugs. The razzing followed almost immediately after.

The Cubs traded infielder Mike Fontenot to the Giants about two hours before the third game of their four-game set at AT&T Park, getting Class-A outfielder Evan Crawford in exchange.

Fontenot, batting .284 with 20 RBI while playing three positions, had been a member of the Cubs organization since being acquired in a trade with the Orioles for Sammy Sosa in 2005. Before he could grab his belongings and head across the hallway to the home clubhouse, he heard from his teammates.

"Three sliders tonight,'' closer Carlos Marmol told him after sharing a hug with Fontenot.

"Font, I'll strike you out,'' reliever Sean Marshall piped in.

"Go take BP. You're late,'' Carlos Zambrano said.

The Giants, who had inquired about Fontenot at the non-waiver trade deadline, had a need for a versatile infielder because shortstop Edgar Renteria had to go on the disabled list with a biceps strain. In addition, Juan Uribe has been nursing a quadriceps injury.

So Fontenot went from a team out of the race to one that started the day tied for the wild-card lead and 2½ games back in the NL West. The circumstances, though, were decidedly unusual, especially considering he could face his former team as early as Wednesday night.

"It's strange being in the same town where you get traded,'' he said. "I'm excited for the opportunity. … I'm glad I packed a few more long sleeves.''

Corner the market on shitty aging outfielders with no legs ... who's ready for Jermaine Dye?!?

Maybe Kendall Gill can make his comeback with the Cubs ....

Don't worry, we're calling up Darwin Barney.

I'll miss Little Fontenot. I liked him when he only got occasional playing time. Clearly, he's not an everyday play for a team that wants to contend.

another bonehead bully move by Bully Hendry

trading yet another homegrown product (yes, I know he came from Baltimore but that was when he was still deep down in the minors as a prospect so shut up)

whats the point of homegrown products when u trade em away after 3 years?

id rather have Theriot and Fontenot than Dewitt and Baker...what is Bully thinking??

and I dont buy the Barney bs...first let Barney come up, let him establish himself, THEN u can trade Fontenot...but suddenly anointing Barney, when noone has ever even heard of him until today, is dumb...reminds me of getting rid of Grace because we had Choi coming up in a year or so, and when that failed, we had to plug in Coomers, Stairs's, and McGriffs for a few years

fuck Bully Hendry

i loved Fontenot...I admit he wasnt an everyday player, but for what he was, he was awesome, and actually a VERY good professional hitter

i hate this Bully mentality of, "if he's not an everyday player then he cant be a homegrown player"

whats the difference? Id rather have some of my utility men be homegrown players, it just makes the ballclub look better, furthers fan loyalty to the team and its players (name one fan who cares to meet Jeff Baker or even Dewitt and get their autographs), and it's great for team chemistry...to me the homegrown combo of Fontenot and Theriot, was such a gem, it was like finding a diamond ring in a haystack...there was a reason we were successful with those 2 for 3 years, not all of which was based on pure talent...the fact they were friends and teammates in college worked wonders for the team, and Bully just has no respect for any of that...he is such a mindless corporate jerk

fuck him

the only positive thing I can think of is that Theriot and Fontenot are both in the NL West and get to see each other often...notice I didn't mention anything related to the Cubs, because Bully doesn't deserve that, after another bad trade

I admit that I dont expect the Cubs to get much in return for Fontenot, which is what makes this another horrible trade...Fontenot at least is a big-leaguer to stay, can u expect the same of a guy hitting .255 in A-ball?

I am assuming that Crawford will be a backup outfielder if he ever makes it to the big leagues, which is highly doubtful at this point. So why give Font. away when u know that Fontenot is the more valuable piece, both long-term and short-term?

fuck u Hendry

Interested to see what Barney can do. Fontenot is the definition of a replacement level player and should be, at best, the 4th or 5th infielder on a very good team. Meh.
