Since he is going into the Hall tomorrow, the man deserves a shoutout. What are your favorite Pippen moments?

Here are some of mine:
The Charles Smith Block: It was actually about 3 or 4 blocks, but I can still remember being up late past my bedtime and watching that game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRFKhpMKX0E

The Dunk on Ewing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rhd0ZFrb7y0

Slam Dunk Contest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB0qWqBsMBc&feature=related

Pippen Winner (Jordan Choke): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNjHIpjvPvg&feature=related

And Finally: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Wn2s7MV_Nk

Charles Smith is undoubtedly my favorite. Ewing dunk is a distant 2nd.

Great thread idea. Pippen never gets enough love. In the first couple weeks on here I posted this article and immediately got on OKC's good side. I'm pretty sure that's what lead to him asking me out to a Bulls game on Valentine's Day.

As a kid I patterned my D after Scottie who imo is the best defensive forward ever

His dunk on Ewing is the best throwdown over someone I've ever seen.

The Smith block is up there too

Great thread! I agree with the not enough love for Scottie sentiment. He willed himself into being an all time top 50 player, and one of the greatest defensive players I've had the pleasure to watch.

I loved the dunk on Ewing. He put the Bulls on his back and proved to anyone that wasn't sure that he could be the man. It should have been the last game of the series. He was the best basketball player on the last 3 championship teams and most people tend to overlook it. I can't say he is the most underrated player in history because Dominque didn't make the HoF on his first ballot but he is in the team photo.

I dont think he was the best player on those last 3 teams but I still think he's the most underappreciated NBA player of the past few decades.

Scoring isn't the only important thing in basketball. That was clearly the only thing MJ could do better than Scottie during the last run. The fact that Dominque Wilkins didn't make the HoF on his first ballot it's hard for me to see anyone being less appreciated than him. He was a top 5 to 10 player in the greatest era of basketball. He just couldn't beat the Celtics big 3.

Good call on Dominique. I remember him schooling MJ in the slam dunk contest in the old Stadium, and getting totally jobbed. If I'm not wrong he didn't make the top 50 list either. I loved watching the "Human Highlight Film".

As the 4th best player on the best dynasty ever, he deserves to be in the HOF.

Congrats, shooter.

You make it sound like MJ was some Ben Gordon type gunner. He was exceptional at every facet of the game during the last 3 peat. It's not like Scottie was much better all around and MJ could just score better. MJ did the all around things very well and was the alpha dog in the 4th quarter. That was still HIS team, if it was anyone's.

I think Dominique was underrated or appreciated, but not to the degree of Pippen, although cases could be made either way. I dont hear Dominique criticized to the level Pippen is. There's alot of people(Many who dont really know anything about the NBA), who have this idea that Pippen never could have been better than a Robin to someone else's Batman. It's simply not true.

Saying Scottie was clearly better at everything except scoring during the last run does not make MJ a Ben Gordon type of player. MJ still had a good all around game but it was no longer as good as Scottie's. IMO this really isn't disputable. MJ is not known for being humble and he said many times during the run that it was Scottie's team. Also during the last couple of titles (especially the last) MJ was awful in the 4th quarter. Maybe I was spoiled by the way he used to play but he had me screaming at the tv because of some of the missed FT and bad shots. He ran out of gas a lot quicker than he ever did.

I think you are misremembering. I'm not really a stats guy but aside from PPG their stats in the last few postseasons aren't all that different. In 1996-1997 MJ had more points, rebounds, assists, steals, and less turnovers in the postseason. Not sure how you think that equates to Scottie being clearly better overall.

All their stats in the overall categories are roughly similar, except MJ averaged at least 10 PPG better for the most part. Scottie was not clearly the better overall player at that point. I think they were closer to equals than most people think, but Scottie was not better.

I'd go with the defensive job he did on Magic in the finals and of course the Charles Smith blocks and the dunk on Ewing.

 No doubt. Scottie Love is the best way to my heart.

I'm very happy for him. I know the personal stuff is well-documented and a lot of people don't like him because of that, but aside from a couple of infamous occurrences (migraines; 1.8 ) there isn't anything negative to say about this guy's work on the court. He was a warrior.

It's funny because some idiot caller called a weekend show last month making some Lebron/Michael comparison, talking about how Jordan was like a coach on the floor. Uh, no. That would be Scottie. He was the floor leader on both ends of the court. He got them into their sets, he called the plays, and he made sure everyone was where they needed to be. Not Michael. Michael just got the ball and scored. Scottie made sure Michael was where he needed to be when he received the ball. Difference.

The guy was one of the two best one-on-one defenders I've ever seen (the other was Gary Payton). A genuine all-around player who excelled at EVERY facet of the game, again, on both ends of the court.

Again, I'm very happy to see my favorite player of all time go into the hall. If I were fielding an all-time team of 5, it would be this:

C - Kareem
PF - Duncan
SF - Scottie
SG - Jordan
PG - Magic

Thank you for everything Scottie! :salut:

Decent article for Scottie Aprreciation thread.

http://www.nba.com/bulls/history/pippen ... 00810.html

I had forgotten the 1991 finals. Pippen was a monster in those games against the Lakers.

I really wouldn't call Scottie "underrated". I'd say he's one of the more questionable guys in that Top 50. I'm not sure he was better than Sid Moncrief.

If you really think it's a joke, you don't remember Moncrief's career. He's probably the closest thing to Scottie there is. Obviously, if you're going to compare the numbers Pippen played a lot longer as Moncrief was plagued by injuries and was pretty much done not long after he hit 30.

I don't care enough to get into some big argument about this. But I will say that a lot of stuff is misremembered. And with the NBA in particular, the popularity of it and the way it is covered, for a lot of people, it's like the league began the year Magic and Bird (and Moncrief) came in.

With regard to Sidney Moncrief himself, although he wasn't a particularly tall guard, he played a lot bigger than his 6'3" or 6'4" or whatever they listed him as. He pretty much invented the "point forward" position when he was at Arkansas. And his defense was every bit the equal of Pippen's.

Anyway, that's just a good comparison I could think of for Scottie. My larger point was simply that Pippen is not "underrated" by any standard and he's clearly a borderline "Top 50" guy. I wouldn't rate him above Bernard King and maybe not Alex English.

And I'm fairly certain Bob McAdoo and Adrian Dantley weren't in that Top 50 either. And you'd have a tough time making a case that Scottie was better than either of them.

JORR, did you get the name of the thread? This is the Scottie Appreciation thread. You're killing the vibe with that negative shit man. Why crash an appreciation thread with some negative shit?

That's like showing up at a funeral, grabbing the microphone and saying, "Hey everybody, I think this dead guy was a piece of shit!"

Start a separate "Scotty Haters" thread or something.

Scottie Pippen was arguably as important to the arguably greatest dynasty in NBA history as Jordan was. Sid Moncrief was the best player in NBA history with the last name of Moncrief. It's not even close.

When you think of 90s basketball, you think of the Bulls and Jordan and Pippen. Without either person, the entire generation of basketball is different.

Are you suggesting that the Bulls wouldn't have won those championships with Moncrief in place of Pippen? Because if you are I'm suggesting you don't know nearly as much about the game as you think you do. But you really don't know shit about Moncrief. You're just talking smack.
