So its the same old story, pappy convinced cbs2 that he would bring in big time sponsors didn't happen, then went to the war with the sales director at CBS, pretty much telling the guy he didn't know what he was doing. Strike one.

Took control of the show for two weeks, Terry Savage wanted to quit, Mike loses control of show. Strike Two.

Mike confronted where all the money he promised to be coming in, Mike has no answers....Striiiiiiike Threeeee.

Mike knows nothing about sales, media talent or putting out a good product, only making sure the under the table money makes it's to his pockets...I didn't say that, someone at CBS did.

Pappy might pop up, but never will he have the pull he had during the score years, that's done.

Pappy has always talked about having sponsors that love him. It has nothing to do with that. If you have viewers or listeners, you have sponsors. And they pay according to what the numbers show. It's that simple. I've always fought people here on that. Hell, people here said the SCORE would lose sponsors after he left. Pappy said that. Didn't happen. Mully and Hanley are doing better. Companies don't pay to be sponsors because they like a host. They pay to have their message heard and to sell their product. Whatever the ratings show, is the price they pay.

That's how dumb North is. He goes to these sponsors, asks them for huge money, they say "no" cuz of his poor ratings and he's shocked.

He will next pop-up in Steve Dahl's basement. They can put on a web show where they pat each other on the back for a few hours.

You are partly correct.
Advertisers pay extra to have a host cut a commercial for them.
They even pay more for a host to read a spot live.
They are trying to build a link between a host and their product.
Remeber that car dealership that always ran on the Murphy show?
Some advertisers do feel very tied in to the host of a show they sponsor.

I am sure that is how it was explained to him and super agent Be-Be, but they cant grasp it, therefore, they feel someone is trying to steal their piece of the pie, so to the unemployment line they go....again. Pappy equals his big bucks to being a great businessman, he isn't or will ever be because he lacks the common sense approach, he only looks at it in his dysfunctional and flawed way.

Yeah, sponsors love money. Period. Whoever will bring it in for them is who they're in love with. North was (and let's hope it's past tense) one of the dumbest fucks I've ever heard in radio. I honestly don't know how he lasted as long as he did. I think he would make a good greeter at some establishment where he can use his stupid meatbally personality to his advantage. That or maybe a pimp. Either one would work.

Yeah. But at the end of the day, you still need viewers watching the spots. It's still based on that. The spot is still the same price for the station. The advertisor just pays the host extra if he's the one reading the commercial. That's his seperate endorsement deal. That's the way I would think it works. So CBS 2 still gets whatever the numbers say they should get. Shitty numbers equal shitty rates.

The deal is through the station, not a side deal for the talent.
You are right about listenership numbers, but you have to take
into account demographics, as well.
All in all, smart advertisers pay for a show bringing paying customers
to their door, not for great numbers printed on a page.
There is a major difference.

How much do you think that Jiggets and North make from that page they buy from the Sun Times and then turn around and sell their own ads on the page?

Fine. CBS 2 had such low numbers that they couldn't have been doing well in any demographic. Pappy is pushing 60 and he's stupid. That's his demo. So 60-year-old stupid people didn't want to watch him.

No argument, BD. North has had a couple of loyal advertisers who I always thought had bought a real line of b.s.
I thought he would have kept Marconi, but they figured it out quickly.
He's blown his big shots at radio. The television show was a disaster fromn the moment it was conceived.
It's got to be back to Internet radio or a brokered weekend show for him.
I think he's run out of good opportunities.

North's problem is that he thought he could go mainstream. There was obviously a population of Chicago fans who liked him when he talked sports on the radio. Fine. So he got cocky and expanded his radio show to all things NOT sports, and then thought he could take his act to TV. What he failed to realize is that NORMAL people watch TV. What normal person would like Mike North? That whole, ridiculous dressing, sexist/racist, schmoozy thing doesn't work on TV. So I think there is probably a place for him back on radio, but certainly not in any prime time slots.

True, but mikey brings in no one, absolutely no one. Especially no one who can afford to buy ANY product.
He's a has-been and an arrogant asswipe.
Johnny Fontane is absolutely correct when he says north is a dumb fuck.

I think our Mr Spada is the kind of advertiser Mike seeks to make deals around.

Does this mean Mike is any less an a-hole? No. I think in these tougher times, advertisers don't place their ads willy-nilly. Especially not for an operator like Mike North...

I think Spada and North could be a possible match based on the number of time I've seen Spada kiss North's ass.

When I read in that North bought advertisement "column" about Gibson's in Oak Brook, it makes it the LAST place I would ever dine at based upon the chance that North would be at the bar running his mouth with his Henry Hill persona in full throttle.

That's true to some degree. But when your show features stuff like "Hug-A-Black Day", jokes about Jews "flim-flamming", and liberal use of the word "Chinaman", big national advertisers tend to run away from you pretty quickly and so you wind up with a bunch of locals like IBEW (where the guy responsible undoubtedly is on North's bowling team or some shit) and Notre Dame High School for Boys (which inexplicably allows this illiterate high school dropout to instruct its students).

North was Mr. Chicken Little after 9/11.
He and Fritzy were tough guys babbling about Towel Heads, but Mr. Hot Dog was busy telling us we were going to get hit again and again by terrorists.
An American Airlines Plane went down in The Rockaways, Queens, after flights resumed after 9/11 and this IGNORANT DUMB FUCK DROPOUT WAS ALL OVER HIS RADIO SHOW CALLING IT AN ACT OF TERRORISM without ANY TYPE OF PROOF at all when it was mechanical failure.
Enough of this Know Nothing Jackass.
If people like Shock and Stupid radio on a consistent basis with some stroke making an ass of himself and feeding the insecurities of petty prissy jerkoffs.....(insert Scorehead here)...North is Your Guy.

North's Legacy is that of a Buffoonish Idiot...and it is growing.

That was really the tipping point. Mike being given the Score morning show to talk general topics was DOA. I still remember even the most loyal North listeners ripping on Anne Maxfield from Day 1. North, Fred, Anne, Jenn, Buchman and Rock...I'm shocked Mitch's career made it through that decision.

If you remember correctly, Mike got everyone on his show long contracts for good paper. Anne was thrilled.

I remember listening (very briefly) to an exchange between Fred and Annie regarding adoption. Fred said he and his wife were considering it but stopped because they weren't happy with the quality of the children that were out there. He said something to the effect of "Boy, there sure aren't any of the best and the brightest in THAT group". To which Annie took offense because she was adopted. Instead of backing off or softening his stance assbag Fred charged on, talking about the low quality of adoptive children. If Annie hadn't been thinking about bailing, I'm sure that exchange did the trick.

I wasnt a big sports radio guy back then. I do remember waking up to an alarm one morning and hearing this.

I listened for like 10 minutes trying to figure out why Mike North was talking to an Alderman from New York about City Sanitation.

I thought the station switched formats or something. I honestly didnt consider "The SCORE gave Mike North a Howard Stern type show" a viable explanation.

That said, Id love for him to come back. North on General topics in the Morning and Shake That at night would be Unintentional comedy heaven

Bob,
Comprehension is a skill. I have said repeatedly that I think North has sucked for many years. That doesn't mean that he wont get hired again in this town.

That's a pretty idiotic thing to say. Is this Fred and his wife? They don't exactly look like prime examples of world-beating DNA themselves. I don't know what his wife does, she may be extraordinarily bright, but he never struck me as being a Nobel Laureate when I heard him on WSCR.
